You mean the "full faced helmet" discussion on the Bjorn Knutson thread for instance? What the hell Knutson has to do with full faced helmets is beyond me

No offence intended. For sure,if the situation is right then speedway could be held there. The multi-use idea is a possibility.A rich sponsor another Read recently about a German womens volleyball player who plays now in Greece for Piraus. She was saying how she earns 8,000 euros a game, double what she could earn in the Bundesliga. The person interviewing her asked astonished how in a country that is pretty much broke a team that only gets 100 fans per game can afford to pay 1 player that much. The answer was there was financial backing there that wanted the club to get amongst the medals. So if a very minority sport can attract that sort of sponsorship, there is maybe hope speedway could also

Ice Speedway Results 2016-2017
iris123 replied to Conkers's topic in International World of Speedway
The line-ups for the 2 World Championship qualis have been announced.Won't call them draws as it is obvious riders have been picked. The Bauers together,Svenssons together, the two Berlin riders together(wonder just how Tobi will go..)etc http://www.speedway.org/eisspeedwaygp/2017/races/index.html -
Fact is i would class you more of a Hot Rod fan than a speedway one.You even put the sport dowm as often as you can and have now and again(recently i think as well) said your time with the sport was a waste. So i personally think your opinion is a lot less worth than someone who classes themselves as a speedway fan.Particularly those who actually attend rather than try to bring the sport down and clog up the forum with loads of what we used to politely call 'tosh'

You Can see the current status......... Here>http://www.speedway-forum.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=83070

Think if you look at the excellent post from John Leslie then it is really down to the promoters, but all seems fine...
-
You could though ask if the opinion of someone who doesn't go to speedway any more is worth anything when it comes to who to choose to ride for a team.I'd say if supporters don't want him then why would he even bother to disagree? You'd hope promoters take more notice of fans who pay at the turnstiles rather than some Hot Rod fan,who is sponsored by Mason Wear

Yes,you could well be right. As i said before i don*t really know an awful lot about him,so was taking a guess.Going on the lines of Lee and Ronnie in a way.Highly talented rides who couldn't maintain the standard or interest perhaps.Of course Ronnie didn't have the self destruct button and i guess Bjorn also didn't.But for me when things come relatively easy, riders tend to lose the kick and there seems a need to find a new kick elsewhere. With Ronnie it was racing cars, with Lee it was an artificial kick, with Penhall it was Hollywood....
-
Maybe never. You could look at Jack Young after his two titles people were probably predicting he would win another 1 or 2 titles, but never did.Hard to say,but like i said if his head was elsewhere he might not(probably not)have carried on at the same level.Lee was a flawed personality and that is a fact.As i have said to say what if,is to ask him to be another person and then that wouldn't be Michael Lee...... It is like asking what if Kelvin Tatum was a better rider, how many titles would he have won?
-
It is all theoretical of course and i agree in a way with what you are saying.Lot of top riders left the sport around the same time for one reason or another But,i would say like Knutson,Penhall,Lee and Carter didn't have the head for the sport any more.If they had of continued i don't think they would have have maintained the top form.I mean Lee did carry on and was never really the same, because of his mental failings. As for Sigalos and Sanders,it is hard to say,but i was never convinced Sanders was really a top top rider. On the other hand there were those i mentioned plus Knudsen,Tatum etc who were decent,if not as good as Sanders also around at the time of Hans and Erik Imo you can say "what if" with riders who had an injury or tragic accident.Riders like Farndon,Jansson,Ward, but i don't believe that is the case with riders like Crutcher,Knutson,Lee,Penhall,as it was their mentality that stopped them carrying on or reaching the top for longer in Lees case.If their mentality changed then they would be a different person......

I am not so sure.I mean in the 1978 final,i wouldn't say Ole had to face that great a line up.Anders, Ivan and Lee didn't have a great night.Even 1975 was a bit spoilt by the track.I would say the finals in 1977 and 1981 were better and he showed he was a top rider in those up against top riders. I would say that in the other era,Gundersen,Nielsen,Jan.O.Pedersen,Ermolenko,Per Jonsson and Jimmy Nilsen were all quality. It wasn't easy to win
-
Ivan for me was the yardstick that you measured the others against. He was superb, even though i wasn't a great fan.I'd want some of the others to beat him, although often that was a forelorn hope.Olsen,Michanek and Collins then Lee.They all had their day,but they just weren't at the level Ivan was for as long.Olsen was the pioneer, but suffers a bit because he was imo surpassed by Gundersen and Nielsen

Could he be a Hot Rod fan who was attracted to this forum by your post on the Hot Rod forum telling people to have a look at the thread on the BSF?

If you come from a time when you wrote letters by hand etc etc why don't you just write posts like you used to write letters?Or did your letters have to have certain words underlined or in another colour so people could understand them?Do you have books by authors that have to have words underlined to emphasise what they really mean?

Tom Farndon...the Greatest Speedway Rider Of Them All
iris123 replied to customhouseregular's topic in Years Gone By
Let us not forget Clem Beckett who fought and died in the Spanish Civil War and started a union for speedway riders.Might not have been the best evr rider, but off track a giant http://spartacus-educational.com/SPbeckett.htm -
More importantly what did they say about the Warsaw GP Court case ?

Think the delay is due to a worry that Russian hackers have manipulated the result,as somehow this seems to have won
-
Maybe that would cause confusion with newbies who know that Division 1 + 2 in football are really the 3rd and 4th leagues......
-
So basically you are saying there is no use in trying? No matter what happens someone will always try to be better than the next person.Someone will be better than the next person, and that "next person" will believe if he spends more money on something else he will then be better and so the circle goes round.....But hopefully if it is less expensive at the bottom,it will enable more people to try and gain a foothold in the sport.Leaving the costs to spiral won't

Looks like an old site for this guy http://www.glasgowtigers.co/rider/niike-lunna/ More known for his crazy hair than his riding at the moment
-
Spot on Sid.Also look at Bjorn Knutson, who is a bit of a mystery man for me.Never really read much about him,but looking at BL65's list he was right up near the top for a few years. Then when you look at his stats,he only started(if i have this right)in 1957 and by 1961 was second in the world and gave the sport up in 1966.So only a 10 year career and what a record..... Individual world title and 2 silvers, plus 4 WTC gold medals,2 silvers and a bronze!!!
-
It shows what a trcky topic it is.Do you go with the longevity/amount of honours won or do we go with talent shown? If you give points for every title and position in the league averages then generally the rider who rode at the top longest whilst avoiding injury is going to amass more points than someone like Penhall or Farndon who for ne reason or another had a short period at the top....
