See some criticism of the track etc from Denmark Apparently Lars Munkedal commentating on Eurosport said the track was dangerous. Others have commentated that Teterow is never a GP quality track As an aside, in Germany there was a fair bit of criticism for the whole weekend. Basically poor organisation . Poor facilities, running out of drinks

Just my opinion of course but Dave Lanning was better on the mic than on paper. Reading back, most of his stuff is quite painful to read

I think Dave Lanning made up lots of stuff in his columns that were never taken on by others

Be interested to know if this can be seen online ? Has been asked before with no success. Sort of expected it to be during the British occupation of the country, especially pre war when it was very popular and seemingly meetings run in all 4 corners of the world. 70s seems less likely, but not impossible

But not all US nicknames were great 'Lammy' Lamoreaux although i seem to recall he was knwn as 'the Frenchman' or maybe 'Frenchie' at first due to his surname. So maybe the 'Lammy' name came from his time in the UK

Nice on BL65 I thought if anyone could answer it, it would be you Tbh i guess the Newcastle link put me and others off. I did look with no luck at pre- war Newcastle results. Expecting him to be a rookie

I thought we had too, which is why it wasn't really a call to re do all the well known nicknames. It was just the first thread i came across that fitted my question about 'Onandoff' Johnson. Following forum guidlines and not starting yet another new thread

Reading an online excerpt from the book on Clem Beckett and it mentions various riders nicknames, Riskit Riley and Slider Shuttleworth to name two.....then it mentions a rider called ' Onandoff' Johnson who rode for Newcastle A new one to me. Who is this rider ?

Think you are missing the point that bikers don't relate to speedway more probably because they don't ride the sort of bikes that speedway riders do. If Harley or Indian etc still made speedway bikes it might have more connection with the outside biker world As it was, back in the 70s i used to love the GB v US series with Barry Sheene, Mick Grant etc -

If there is so much doubling up/down and guests etc wouldn't a big league just end up a bigger farce than two smaller ones ? -
Killing the sport

The basic problem with the sport is riders riding all over the place. It robs youngsters of a spot all over. It is not only the UK that are having problems, but it was noticed and has been going on for a decade or more. I pointed out the dramatic drop in riders in Denmark. Just as i seem to recall Anders Michanek in Backtrack noted the drop in number from his time in Sweden. Poland, although maybe the only country trying to do something, are also seeing this happen now I remember back nearly two decades ago now and here in Germany we had qualifying rounds for the German championship and also i seem to remember the U21 championship, divded into North and South. Now it seems they are lucky to get a full field without using a foreigner or two on german licences... -

Think you are looking back with rose tinted glasses Ove Fundin for one told me he was often abused and had things thrown at him when he rode at Wimbledon. Even back in the 1930s riders were physically attacked. One notorious track was Harringay -

You'll have to point out which quali meetings Briggo rode in ,in 1958 I also am finding it difficult to find Fundin in the Nordic, Continental or European Finals in 1957 -
Funny, when i mentioned the small league the other day someone said ....
