Have to agree with Big Arthur. Wasn't he the Mail seller outside the stadium ? First person who met you with a big smile And I seem to remember two wooden huts as you came in. One was I think the supporters club shop and the other up on the terracing. Both a must look in I think of all the stars I saw there, it was Paul Whittaker who most impressed me, alongside Barry Thomas of course

Looks like they are not always wrong then, if they banned you

The way Facebook seem to operate, is if someone reports something then they take it down or hand someone a ban, without bothering to check if there really is something offensive. I guess because there are some many reports from so many offended people, they are overwhelmed

Maybe something going on with the word speedway ? I noticed Paulco had a post taken down. All it was , was mentioning he was at a speedway meeting. And it broke Facebook rules, and someone said they had the same thing happen. Seems strange

And today.....

Seems just like the German football team, Ludwigslust are announcing the line up one at a time over the next weeks maybe First rider, plus the two reserves (Hannah Grunwald and Patrick Hyek)

Seem more talk of new innovations and cross border cooperation Germany are moving to a new junior class to lower the costs. They say maintaining 250cc bikes is too costly ! Which comes as a surprise to me, as I thought that was mooted a decade or so ago as the future Germany and quite possibly Poland and Denmark, if I have understood correctly, want to move to something called 500R for 13-17 year olds . Not sure what that is. They say they want the same classes for juniors as their neighbours to make it easier for their juniors to ride in other countries.

There is a decline in all countries. At least with numbers of riders, and has been noted for well over a decade. Anders Michanek talked about the huge drop in numbers riding from his day, in an early Backtrack issue At some stage the whole thing will cease to be workeable without enough riders. When i first started going to the local meetings in Germany, they had a few qualifying rounds for the U21 championship, North and i think South, due to the numbers. Back in 2003/4. I think it way before 2013/14 that they were dropped and there were even guest riders from the Netherlands in the final etc. The Bundesliga went down hill and the second division disappered and then started up a while later in a less attractive format imo. Some of the junior riders from the North were racing in youth leagues in Denmark instead of Germany But even as has been stated a number of times, the Danish youth system seemed to falter, and hasn't produced much in a decade. Lower numbers, despite council owned tracks being available more often than most countries.

For me, there is a difference between pre-meditated and spontaneous. My mums uncle was in prison a couple of times for armed robbery. He got involved in one of the London gangs in the 60s. He was actually a chippy, so could have made a good living honestly, but chose a life of crime, and it was all planned. Same as scb and Garrity, chose and planned a crime

I don't think that is the case. There is a level that is hard to turn back from. A mental illness, if you like that is hard to cure. Garrity, as i posted before, has already said once that he is reformed and then went out and commited worse than he was supposedly reformed from. I don't think someone like that should be given a chance in the public eye tbh. But maybe the victim should be asked if it is ok for him to be in the media spotlight whilst they are maybe still suffering the mental scars ? It doesn't sound like it was a poor choice. It sounds like he set out with the idea that he is the only person who matters Some criminals for sure make a mistake and learn their lesson I even know someone who was locked up for murder. But he was in a way a victim of circumstancess. He was having a night out in a pub with his wife and some bloke started an argument. I think he was trying to flirt with the guys wife from memory. Smething like that as she was pretty. They decided to leave and the guy followed them into the car park and a fight started. The guy i know, who was a part time hunter for farmers, shooting deer etc, managed to get to his car where he had a hunting knife and used it to defend himself in a sense. The law didn't see it like that and he was put away. But as far as i know he wasn't a violent person and never reoffended. It was just a one-off crazy moment scb and Garrity for me are different. And if he needs a career for the next 30 or 40 years then he is much better looking elsewhere, as it is unlikely that speedway will be much of a career for him even in the short term. If he comes back, i doubt he will last 2 seasons.........

Tbh i think you are being a bit harsh on Roger. Gordon Kennett started out at the same time. He was also given some meetings for the Dons in his fits season. But i think it was fairly clear at Eastbourne that Gordon was the better of the two. But it still took Gordon a few years to really get going. You could say, the move to White City really was the start of the big time. Roger was just that bit behind Gordon always really. But i do recall a Bank holiday home and away clash with Oxford. And the guy on the mic was going on about Roger and Bobby McNeil, and saying it looked like Oxford had got the better rider......

Good call. Isn't Greg Hancock's son named Wilbur ? Guess we will have to wait until he becomes a senior rider, if ever

I was going to mention Lloyd Elder (sprouts), and wisely thought i would check and found Lloyd was his middle name. Another is Robin Lloyd Amundson But without going through all the records of riders, was there one or more with Lloyd as Christian name. Not such an uncommon name, and one of my first school mates was a Lloyd, although he was from Jamaica, and doesn't qualify as the Jamaican speedway rider Joshua (Josh) Auty maybe ?
-
Yes i know. I was more thinking of putting Workington as top priotiry from the start, not dropping out. As i stated, similar to Huckenbeck, who before the season started told the Germans not to consider him for these meetings
-
A good point. In fact thinking about it, i could believe that the FIM want her at the meeting. Trying to give female riders a boost
-
Stick my neck out a bit here Celina is only 2nd track reserve for Saturday. I'd say she has no chance of qualifying in that field even if a couple of riders drop out at short notice. At this stage in her career I would have thought she would give Worky priority. Sure she could have said she doesn't want to ride in the meeting to the German authorities. Think Huckenbeck told them he doesn't want to do any FIM Europe meetings
-
You have to laugh at the ' very few riders from this country ever do' bit. When home track reserves are almost exclusively from this country. Remember the other obscure rider who was on breakfast TV and they mixed up speedway with the US auto racing thing. But he was also saying he made it to the European final or some other pre GP quali meeting. When he never qualified. He was also just a local track reserve But the point also was 10 years ago Garruty was pleading for a chance and saying he was a reformed character .....ho hum

Oh yes Mancunian Garrity admitted: "It would be a dream to be at Cardiff. I used to be a bit of a tearaway but those days are over. https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/other-sports/jason-garrity-pleads-chance-race-18734214

People say he is talented. Maybe so.But he never really produced much and was on the decline before he was banged up. Not many come back as good as they were before a long break. I doubt he would get a 5 point average in the second tier. Even with the lack of riders available, it would seem a major gamble to even bother ringing him up

Not sure what that tells us Apparently Fred West was a very likeable person. Charles Manson obviously had a magnetic personality that enabled him to attract and manipulate people. The criminal world is full of such people. And the world is full of charming people who manage to manipulate and rob the elderly..... And there is one problem with speedway. It has a large elderly fan base. Would it really be acceptable to have him in the spotlght and expect older generations to pay out money to watch him ? How would it come over if you expected a large amount of females to pay to watch entertainment from a wife beater or rapist at the extreme ?

I did stumble across one a good few years ago now. Sure it was about Johnnie Hoskins building the Custom House stadium. But of course it wasn't any speedway promoter, and Hoskins only came to West Ham a couple of years after the stadium and speedway had opened there. If i remember rightly norbold corrected the page
-
Letting someone like that back into a sport would give it a bad name in the media I guess that is where speedway has an advantage. It doesn't have a good name, nor bad. It is just ignored

Funny, as talent goes, for some reason i recalled a discussion i had on here years ago with Phil Rising. Phil said he was talking to Gundersen at that time and Erik said that if you think this group of riders are good (Mikkelsen, Bech Jensen etc) just wait for the next lot, they will be even better. I said to Phil that i really couldn't see it happening, as i was a fairly frequent spectator at Danish junior racing at the time. Then one or two jumped in on me saying along the lines of 'how can you question someone like Phil/Erik I think the years have shown i was right, and there has been no top Danish riders come along really. Certainly no group, and barely a single elite rider
