Grand Prix Challenge 2017
iris123 replied to STEPHEN 333's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Always a danger with that sort of idea that we could end up with a few Lubos Tomiceks or dare i say it,a Niklas Säyriö or two It is though a problem if you do happen to get a great GP line up and you end up having to lose a couple of good riders. On the other hand you'll get people complaining that it is the same riders year after year You'll never please everyone -
The Riders Who Never Took Your Imagination Over The Years.?

Despite both Jessup ans Simmo riding for the Dons,i never really took to them.Ray Wilson was another.Bob Valentine another from that period.Tobi Kroner another modern day rider -
The Riders Who Never Took Your Imagination Over The Years.?

I'd say,Jessup,Simmo,Ray Wilson.Latter day Ulamek,Walasek,Hampel,Hancock and Bjarne Pedersen.I'd also go with Jan Andersson. He seemed so boring after some of the great Swedish riders who preceded him -

Another FIM scandal. It shouldn't be who is first to react, there should be a pecking oder and Finland should be right down near the bottom.Just look at this crazy development ......... -
I thought it had been stated on a number of occasions that it was the second meeting at High Beech

Autrey Could He Have Been World Champion In 1979.?
iris123 replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
I was reading an interesting article on FB about 'wild'Bill Cody.Seems he was a very intelligent but not so wild rider, who regrets not riding in the UK when he had a chance. From the article it did mention him beating Ole Olsen at his home track! But this was claimed to be Liverpool,so it might be a mistake/mix up -
Autrey Could He Have Been World Champion In 1979.?
iris123 replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Years Gone By
Surely the Berger series was only at British tracks, whereas a world championship series in 1979 would be Europe wide if not a round in the US.So not really much evidence on how Autrey would have done? -
Ian Charles, who takes pix at both Belle Vue and Buxton also taught photography at college and is also a very friendly,no ego sorta guy

Grand Prix Challenge 2017

So basically i was right weeks back.No way should Norway or Finland be getting so many spots in the qualis given the strength of their riders.Austria will be the same and a few others as well.Saying that Harris isn't someone i woud like to see manage to get back in the GPs,but that is neither here nor there -
Didn't Woffy get 9 from 4 heats he finished?Quite a difference really, especially as Nicki was the home rider and Tai would have probably got at least another point had he have stayed out of trouble. It isn't just the points scored but how he looked if you want compared to Tai and in the GP.Lack lustre and easily out manouvered. But sure as a Nicki fan i don't like to see him riding like that and hope he soon improves

That was the same with Mick Hines.Really didn't want to come to Wimbledon, but probably had his best seasons there.Really rose to the job

Harris got more points than the Norwegian and Finns together!!! -
That is a reasonable point.I was put off going to my local track last weekend because when the teams were announced i could only see one winner and i wasn't mistaken.Of course you can get an exciting meeting that isn't close and a close meeting where the racing is boring. But if i feel the result is a foregone conclusion it isn't going to attract me.....unless there is something special like the chance to see some new wonder kid, which last weekend didn't offer Bit diappointed that my chance to go to Sittinbourne happens to be some pairs meeting with basically home riders. Not too attractive to say the least

Thought there was quite a worrying problem with fake badges on the market?Reproductions passed off as originals.I was quite surprised that someone would even go to that sort of trouble, but there must be money in it.

Seems that despite only living 5 miles away gustix has somehow missed Croydons 3 attempts this century to achieve "city" status and all the debate it aroused.I managed to read about it and live nearly 600 miles away All a bit strange given his interest in the subject
-
Surely in Penge you haven't missed the numerous applications from nearby Croydon to achieve "city" status?Only 5 miles away!!!! http://www.croydonadvertiser.co.uk/the-debate-goes-on-why-isn-t-croydon-a-city/story-30241523-detail/story.html

I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt.I am certainly(up til now)no fan of Tai,but those races are fantastic.Problem for me is i have lost a lot of interest over the past few years, coinciding with Tais rise and the trouble is whenever i have looked in i have never seen anything like those heats.I have seen him make some great cut backs on the first bend.Very good racing brain and great track craft, but never really saw him as a racer. That video has changed my opinion.Maybe others have had the same experience i don't know, but thanks for putting that link up
