Edinburgh - new home required….

You might know there is a sport called speedway, but think it is the US car one. Like i think two breakfast tv presenters did years ago when they had some obscure speedway rider on -
Period of mourning. No sport activities.

Derry City playing against Bohemians tonight. Derry in the UK, but play in the RoI league.... -
An update on a member of my family who did start out having a go at speedway at Isle of Wight and Iwade. Now got his eyes on a different sport, but maybe if he is ever famous might drop a word in for the sport . Remember reading his mum had nothing but nice things to say about Barry

Oooh, be very careful who you give your money to !!! Can i just say Discovery- Warner Bros-Mayo Clinic

Speedway researcher is the place t go when wanting to know race nights for tracks in various years. Tbh i only thought of it myself after asking roughly the same question here for a year , although it was one when Walthamstow were also running

There is a football talk show in Germany where if they come out with a cliche they have to put money in a box on the table..
-
Tbh there is a German podcast started this year and I haven’t heard a single one because the last thing I want to hear is speedway riders talking , just like whilst I love football I don’t much care for footballers being interviewed. And I came to this conclusion due to the experience of hearing loads of footballers saying the same things

I agree Tbh it was Chris Harris that done it for me with this constant set up stuff. Self protection really. Nobody ever just had a bad race, it was always the set up to blame

Dudek was another with a different style. Think he has calmed down and developed a relatively normal style nowadays though
-
Hougaard was the first modern rider i noticed that had gone retro into a leg trailer sort of style. Maybe that was because of his long legs and the laydown giving him the possibility ? See here with Jonas Davidson and Risager, who is hidden somewhat

All good reading, but all post war. Why were there different styles pre war ? Looking at the Ogden speedway cards is interesting Probably the greatest of all the Dirt-Track riders, “Cyclone Billy Lamont” was born in Newcastle, New South Wales. He started racing in 1924 at Maitland, the first track built in Australia, and since that time has broken nearly every record in Australia, besides winning many of the most valuable trophies. Since coming to England to ride for International Speedways, he has broken several of our track records including that of Stamford Bridge. When in action his is without exception the most thrilling rider to watch as he invariably goes into the bends on full throttle. Jim Kempster for one seems to be a foot forward rider, whereas most are the leg trailer style

Seems like there were a few more collections, plus some speedway riders among sporting stars collections. From memory i only knew of the other collection with Clem Cort among others http://edinburghspeedway.blogspot.com/2013/05/cigarette-cards.html

Ain't that the truth

Yes, but funnily enough it is one of my bug bares that in a newspaper you see someone mentioned as being 23 and in the next report they are 24 or 22......but i guess speedway reports always get it right

I have the 1937 coloured cards with Morian Hansen, Dicky Case etc
-
And yet if you check all the Programmes of the time I think they all have Knutson’s name wrong. In fact was it a speedway Programme editor that first printed the wrong name and it was forever copied ?
-
Me too Steve, and i thought i was doing well with that, but my cousin has the same collection in an original booklet !! At least i guess these are all originals. But probably not worth 12 quid, let alone 12 million dollars
-
A Baseball card just went for 12.6 million dollars !!! Wonder what the most expensive speedway card is ? https://www.mopo.de/sport/sportmix/126-millionen-dollar-baseball-karte-erzielt-irre-rekordsumme/

Wroclaw GP Saturday August 27th
iris123 replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I think when we go through a more than likely hard time during the winter months, more pressure will be put on governments to take more retaliation against Russia and things will get worse with relationships, working and entry etc Naturally I hope I am wrong and things get back to normal quickly. But I can’t honestly see it. Just more escalation -

Currently discussions about stopping Russian citizens even visiting the EU, let alone working. The war doesn’t look likely to end soon, so neither will any sanctions Be a minor miracle if they are back next season -

Oh come on. I mean nearly 80,000 women managed to find Wembley for the recent football game, and if they can get there with their famous bad sense of navigation then anyone can !!!! I’ll get me coat, again
