You could use the example of Knutson to maybe prove the others weren't that good.I mean he started riding speedway in 1957 i think and by 1961 was 2nd in the world behind Fundin John Louis is one of the other riders who had a rapid rise to the top finishing 5th only 2 years after taking up the sport Even if we are going through a period without many greats,it is hard to imagine anyone doing that sort of thing at the moment.Dudek has taken 8 years so far...quite possibly riding a few years as a junior on smaller bikes like a lot of Poles,Swedes and danes do before they make their senior league debut

No wrestling, but maybe Norbold is comforted by Jackie Pallo Jnr's appearance in Villains?

Fim Longtrack 2017
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
Gb would have a decent chance if Harris was in the side.Still look capable of a medal i think.Looks quite close with one or two riders capable of taking points from each other.Don't see Sweden finishing high up.Has Lathi(sic) done Longtrack before? -
To be fair i had a day this week where i barely got through work even though i took a couple of pain killers. The next day after a nights rest and a stronger pain killer and a bandage on my kneee i was much better. He only say's he hopes he is ok to ride in Poland, but at some stage he is going to feel better after an incident. It might be a day,it might be two or three.........

Have seen some of Heathers photos from previous visits.Looks an amazing collection, especially a private one.A must see for anyone in the area

I'm no expert on the matter, but I reckon you know how to contact people on here. maybe even have previously contacted TWK a few times before!!!!
-
Not sure where gustix gets some of his info from.Think we have had this with Kennett before and had the same answer. He never seems to learn, but maybe he is referring to the period when Gordon was riding in the second half at Plough Lane?
-
Peter Moore also rode for the Dons, but was no relation of Les and Ronnie
-
A great idea for a birthday or of course Xmas gift especially for Dons fans.Well i guess Brummie fans as well. The colour scheme works perfectly on a red apple.I was at the opening of the North German apple season last weekend and was at an orchard that does these gifts for €2.50 an apple You are right Steve.I thought he was coming along quite well, the left Plough Lane and faltered and like you say eventually disappearing

Neil Cameron of Australia, had a few seasons at Plough Lane in the early 70s

Well just to say that i did attend a showing of this film.Thought it might be interesting as i am a long time Wimbledon fan,ya know Great,so this thread is also about the social activities of Wimbledon fans......

Refereeing Cock-up At Swindon V Belle Vue Ko Cup
iris123 replied to WalterPlinge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Come off it Steve. If Poole had done it there would be at least 30 pages on the thread by now.The ref was to blame, not Swindon. Now if Poole had done it,you know who would be the dirty culprits -
It is great to see a competition where mostly home grown riders appear with only 2 foreign riders.

Whatever.....but a preview of a meeting obviously doesn't belong in "Years gone by"!!! Neither does a match report from just a "day gone by"

Photography Restrictions At Meetings
iris123 replied to Willowman's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No problem.Of course it is difficult to police, like many things. They hope by issuing a warning it will stop most and if you get caught you could well be kicked out with no money back.It is the same at places like the Semper pera where you are allowed to take phtos if you pay a fee.Now of course people with mobiles etc can take a chance of not paying the fee or others take the chance that it is hard to police and they might not get checked..... -
No idea. But it was one of the reasons why i never leave the house if the weather isn't perfect.Of course once i have travelled all that way i am p'd off if the meeting isn't on.On the other hand all i am watching is riders going round a track rather than actully racing. One of the reasons i didn't go to Güstrow(which i would have prioritised) or Teterow last weekend. Also hoping to go to Brokstedt sunday, but the weather is again a bit iffy...Sadly nowadays speedway can't cope with bad weather and i am not willing to spend any money on the sort of racing we saw at Teterow

Photography Restrictions At Meetings

But surely that is covered by the 'no still or video cameras capable of providing zoom....'That will also cover compact cameras that provide zoom -
None of that changes the reputation the track has gained over the past decade or so.The new track surface hasn't had enough meetings to make a decent judgement i would say. Of course the rain had a big effect. But should it have had such a great effect if it stopped around 15:00?I have been to Holsted where it really poured down about an hour before the meeting was due to start. They scraped off the top slime and layed dry shale down.think the start was delayed a little, but the track was about the same as Teterow, but with far less time.If you look at f-s-p's recipe for a good track they had the rain and still had 4 hours or so to get a track together. But like you said, the fault for that was down to Phil Morris......

Some fair points there Steve I would also point out the strange behaviour whenon a thread about legtrailers he was getting a bit irate that i posted some photos from fairly recent times which showed the style had made a comeback,if it ever 100% died away, because it was "years gone by" even though the pics were from years gone by.But just look at his thread about Wimbledon since 2002 and you will see he has posted not about years gone by,but a preview of a meeting that at that point hadn't taken place and then started posting stuff about the 70s,which also doesn't fit the bill of the thread title!!! Personally i really do feel he does it for the attention Oops, another Steve got in before i replied.......

Looking at the Holsted news for today it names Jason Jorgensen as the no.5 for Fjelsted and has a different line-up for Esbjerg 1. Rene Bach ( 2. Michael Palm Toft © 3. Tim Sørensen (D) 4. Norbert Kosciuch ( 5. Matias Nielsen (D) League debut for Matias Nielsen, who rides for Esbjerg in the lower division http://www.holsted-speedway.dk/nyheder/drama+i+kulissen_842/ Drama in the semi-finals as Esbjerg are not allowed to use Rune Holta. They considered pulling out of the meeting, but say they owe it to their sponsors and the municipality

Maybe one day i will make it.More of a chance soon as Ryanair are starting flights to Edinburgh from Hamburg
-
One name that is often forgotten(apart from those other threads that mention all the women riders!!!! ) is Czech lady rider turned model turned singer Lenka Kopalova
-
Think ex Wimbledon rider Alfred Rumrich was a POW in France
-
After i posted i looked at the Fjelsted FB page and it has the same.Obviously copy and pasted from one or the other (without realising the mistake?)
-
Fjelsted with only 4 riders??? Maybe Christian Thaysen is the missing rider? Not sure, just saying.....
