  1. Of course. That is no surprise.Humphrey has been stating that for a decade or so,much to Phils chagrin Just waiting for f-s-p to make a bid
  2. Really not sure about these ideas to take the main title to countries like France or Argentina.Countries that don't have GP quality riders. Some years ago i thought ok if it helps promote the sport and make it bigger in those countries, but that just didn't happen in the likes of Croatia or Italy. It is obviously going there for the money.Lesser countries really should make do with U21 championship etc, which is easy enough fr European countries.I do admit the problem of getting Argentina into worldwide competitions is far more difficult
  3. Malcolm Simmons, whilst not making the top spot, must be up there.League debut in 1963 and last league rides in 2001 at the age of 57
  4. I'd imagine the track record was broken in the first meeting of 1950?If so what was the record at the end of that meeting/season? Reading about the re-opening it mentions one of the Promotion was a Billy Galloway!!!Is that the Billy Galloway the pioneer Australian, who must have stayed in the UK i guess?
  5. Seems i made a mistake and assumed it was at the stadium.Looking at further info it seems it is actually within a Shopping Centre, which would possibly attract more interest and promote the club/sport even more than just the converted who visit the stadium http://www.torun-plaza.pl/pl/
  6. Funnily enough seeing as gustix is such a fan of the website,i am very surprised he seems to have missed this page.... http://www.national-speedway-museum.co.uk/mart%20seiffert%20comments.html
  7. Don't think anyone was confused by your mistake. But as you point out he was listed in one of your years as "Mart" and the next as "Mark",just as i pointed out..... According to the Ogden cards he is named as Mart rather than Mark, and took part in the very first meeting at High Beech. In one of the Wimbledon speedway history books he is named as Mark as well.I think someone has probably mis-read his name and it has been copied further. The plaque i have showed above, which has started the debate i imagine is correct having talked to the rider himself to elect him as President
  8. Turn out looks pretty poor. Was it as bad as in the photos or were there more people behind the photographer????
  9. Maybe John Chaplin found something out.He asked the question in 2013.... Tbh i thought it was the rider who was the irst captain of Wimbledon back in the 1920s,but was he listed as Mark Seiffert? In the Ogdens Cigarette Cards it seems he was.Maybe a mistake?
  10. Just look at some of the names on that Plaque.Needs a bit of updating, but some greats on there
  11. Hmm,looks like Sommelier must have been the celebrity guest of international fame. Unless it was the childrens paddling pool made in China
  12. A link to the Torun Speedway stadium. Also makes money by hosting top stars like Rod Stewart!!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MotoArena_Toru%C5%84
  13. Should have all been so different, but Sweden seemed to lose out just at the time the Danes and Yanks were rising
  14. Bit of internet activity due to the GP at the weekend.Lot of people visited the museum from what i saw. A video which shows it off probably better than a photo or two https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZffAGGxICR0
  15. A young member of the family has just started out in the sport.Think his first spin was at IoW,but now seems to be riding at Iwade in Kent, who also have training
  16. Strange that Norbold. It seems one forumite thinks Greenford has been all but 'forgotten',mentioning no names....
  17. Hope the weather is kind to you this time and maybe you get the chance to try out the specially cleared childrens paddling pool.Sounds like a real highlight
  18. A few examples here.No idea what prices they go for or how often they come up for sale.Must be pretty rare i imagine http://www.greyhoundderby.com/Greenford%20speedway.html
  19. Video showing racing at Greenford https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzAQVTQfNiA Looks like this was the Trotting Track venue that held 'speedway' for a short period.Though as the comment underneath states,it was racing more akin to todays Longtrack.Seems quite exciting, but not that well attended https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenford_Park_Trotting_Track Taken from the excellent Homes of British Speedway The opening meeting was 7th April 1928.The track is a genuine cinders track, nowhere less than 60 feet wide... The very first race saw A.Weston crash, with his machine subsequently bursting into flames!! In 1928 races were held over 5 laps giving a distance of nearly 3 miles!!!! Open meetings were held in 1928,1929 and then came back in 1931.Racing ceased at the end of that year mainly because of complaints about dust and noise from local residents Well looking at the youtube clip it does seem people were living very close to the track, but one of the early victims of local residents, that continues to plague the sport today
  20. Interesting the past and present riders. Are there any present riders with a link to Sunderland in any form?
  21. Well i guess you have gained some international fame after a trip abroad to see a meeting that was cancelled
  22. Only a matter of hours until this event and no information as to who this "celebrity guests" will be?
  23. This is an interesting piece https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford_Barons
