  1. On the other hand I did see some go karts and they were rubbish. The leader had to wait for the others almost every lap to try and make it look good. But I guess it is all down to the racers available. The same thing could often be said about speedway
  2. Same here. Having seen quads racing, they seem far more suited to a speedway track
  3. The only time you get anywhere near the truth reported is if a national newspaper does an article on speedway. And more often than not, they just can't be bothered. The Star isn't going to bite the hand that feeds it, as we have seen over the past couple of decades
  4. In the misty moonlight or Your cheatin' heart ?
  5. I see it being announced as 'Welcome to the new era'. But not much evidence of it....well apart from the balls up that the SWC thing was
  6. See the Horst Dohm stadium have been hit with some delivery problems, and their ice season has been postponed. Should have already opened, but now won't open until December 1st. But they are seeing a postive in the shortened season in that their energy costs will be lower !!
  7. It is in the spirit of the BSF . How often have people said goodbye only to still be here ?
  8. Back to the Flat track. It seems the Superprestigio ended in 2017 as far as i can find. And might have had no speedway rider participating. Freddie was in the year before. Can't find anything since, and looked at the Jordi Arena website, and nothing planned for the next year According the the wiki site, a meeting was planned for Paris in 2018, but was then pulled as the organiser announced not enough interest from MotoGP riders https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superprestigio_Dirt_Track It was announced this thursday that this year's Superprestige will take place in Paris. With the event scheduled for December 15th, in UArena, Johann Zarco will be one of the protagonists of this weekend, even because the rider will try to fight for the victory. When asked about this theme, the rider said he will look to be ready for the race, although he recognizes that the favorite is Marc Márquez. However, the frenchman doesn't guarantee that he will not give up, even because he will be racing at home and will have all the support of the public present.'The event was in Barcelona for five years and this year it will be good to race in Paris. The favorite for Dirt Racing is Marc Márquez. Let's see if he's in good shape this winter. I will be there and I will train during the season to be there. I'll try to have a better level. I think it's going to be a good thing', Zarco argued at the press conference. https://www.motorsport-total.com/motogp/news/geringes-interesse-der-motogp-piloten-superprestigio-2018-abgesagt-18110705 The above, looks like Spanish Flat Track..........which isn't really what we call Flat Track
  9. Yes, i think the Belgium rider had got a bit mixed up, and instead of travelling to Portsmouth, Hampshire in 1935 had instead taken the boat to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, which happens to be in the US and A. On realising his mistake, he went to New York, where he met Benny Kaufman, quite possibly had a coffee with Jimmy Gibb and had an offer to join the Putt Mossman troupe. I think he turned them down as he had a great idea to start a Belgian brewery in NY
  10. Well you can pick the bones out of this site. And if there is more you want to know then contact the author or look on the Ukraine page on the International speedway forum section and contact Gorka there https://gorka-speedway.blogspot.com/?m=1
  11. Think in every country, it always starts in the first yard. Ukraine is no exception

    Old film

Was only a short glimpse i think. Looked like a Germany, Poland Sweden meeting. One or two of the Poles looked familiar as well. Walosek maybe Then carried onto Longtrack grasstrack and Simon Wigg was in there

    Old film

Good stuff from Germany in the 70s i'd say. Hasse Holmquist, Peter Collins, Ivan Mauger, Barry Briggs and Egon Müller among others https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Speedway+DDR&ru=%2fvideos%2fsearch%3fq%3dSpeedway%2bDDR%26FORM%3dVDMHRS&view=detail&mid=E80E734F3FF677FC0342E80E734F3FF677FC0342&rvsmid=8BC8120B4800FF76CC058BC8120B4800FF76CC05&FORM=VDRVRV

    Old film

A 1958 piece. May have had this before ? From the language i reckon Scandinavia (Sweden) but not sure. Great stuff though, and especially all the rockers in leather setting off on their bikes after the meeting https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Speedway+DDR&&view=detail&mid=8BC8120B4800FF76CC058BC8120B4800FF76CC05&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3DSpeedway%2BDDR%26FORM%3DVDMHRS
  15. Yes, i think it might have been a Dave Lanning tale, that Gerhard escaped from East Germany in a sidecar. I don't think the story is true. Or maybe it is my memory playing up.
  16. Do you mean speedway like ours or the Japanese track racing ?
  17. You might also recall that Germany had a parting of the ways for a number of years, so gets a bit complicated, but you can find some interesting stats here and ideas of what to search https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_der_Deutschen_Meister_im_Speedway
  18. You can pick the bones out of this
  19. Yes, I have a Son Pardo badge. Guess Reg brought a load back for Eddie Toogood to sell at Plough lane
  20. Think it was later than the 90s and Russel Paine ? I know the local authorities were causing problems, but also thought a break in and loss of lots of equipment was also one of the straws that broke the camels back 2005
  21. Does bring up one interesting point. The flattrack meetings. Are they still being raced ? Wasn't Kylmäkörpi in one at least ? Think one, maybe more, were cancelled due to Covid
