Surprised you ask this!!!It is the reason some riders only ride two heats if they do well.No need to turn out for the 3rd heat if they already have enough -
Exactly! They would kick out another team just to get slaughtered in front of their fans
-
Seemed somewhat strange to hold the team final at Heerenveen
-
Wouldn’t bother with turn 4.Got to be the worst position I have ever seen at a stadium.Back straight is good, especially for me at the left side, just where the riders are coming out of the bend
-
I do agree to a large extent.Flash some big wedge and you suddenly open doors. It isn’t always a level playing field with the FIM.We know that from Berlin pulling out of the ice speedway world championship a few years back ,complaining that they were having to meet standards other tracks didn’t I sorta thought the Argentina project was more something of a personal ambition of Castagnas rather than money though
-
There are standard sizes and widths as well.Think there are only a handful of UK tracks that have been inspected and meet them.It is the same with long track, although they at least changed the rules so they could race in Poland on a large speedway track.Plus if I remember Costa Mesa has a bloody big hill at one bend for freestyle jumps, which obscured the racing from fans and referee

How did it all end up then? -
Well how did the Polish riders qualify for the 1973 final?Swedish riders did have qualifiers for some of their finals, but how many meetings did they ride?Whereas how many meetings did some of the continental riders do or some British(Australian/NZ)riders do when the final wasn’t at Wembley Plus I was answering a post that said there were no wc’s and you have confirmed there were,no matter how short the period was
-
I did say the same before a wheel had been turned at the first GP.Terroble track and that was known at the time. The U21 final a year or 2 before was almost called off by Stekkers because of a protest,I think from the Aussie team and another german meeting the senior riders refused to ride.Still others know better,so they think
-
Denis Waterman would probably have been a Dons fan.Think his family were well know boxers from Earlsfield and I was at school just around the corner from his girlfriend at the time Rula Lenska who lived near Wimbledon Theatre

I wasn’t indicating you did think Simmons had ‘exclusive rights’,but asking if the riders I mentioned are also considered legends
-
No not bad,but he isn’t that high up in the list of best rider never to win a world title is he?Les Collins,Chris Morton,Gordon Kennett John Louis are they all legends? And Tommy Knudsen,Bo Petersen,Dennis Sigalos,Billy Sanders Phil Crump etc.....How many legends are there just from the 70s and 80s? Robbie B was making it sound an exclusive club, but then when you look at the criteria it doesn’t really sound like one
-
Pavlic was European champion and had been in a GP the year(2007)before signing for Swindon
-
Not so sure many would use the term legend. If you call Simmo a legend then there are many many that deserve the term as well When he came to Plough Lane he dropped 2 points off his average and his best days were behind him

Thanks.Yet again a naysayer pops their head out,but I thought I remembered something along those lines

I think the problem is Vojens would host 1 big meeting a year whereas football and ice hockey hold 10 or so league games with the odd derby and some cup games etc.Vojens don’t even enter a team in the Danish league,so is very low profile and maybe there is just no speedway fan sitting high up in the council.Phil Rising has mentioned a few times that Vojens won’t host big meetings As I have mentioned before the big local team(sports club)was founded in 2004 and is getting lots of backing. The ice hockey team, who I think play in Vojens are affiliated as European clubs do https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SønderjyskE_Fodbold https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SønderjyskE_Ishockey And an important part of it all was the local government changes which meant Vojens council was scrapped and Vojens found themselves under Haderslev control in 2007

Yes,that is the track I went to.Pretty basic, not world final quality and I think Ghostie told me it wasn't the track that held the WF in 1961.At least it still survives
