FIM Longtrack 2019

Apparently turned it down,as did Erik Riss -
I do remember back about a decade ago one Danish club ran a few meetings in Germany at Jübek.Long track.Faint memories that they had a few Dutch speedway championship meetings at Moorwinkelsdamm as well.

That’s a bit of a jump.Someone mentioned or should we say misspelt walk(Waulk) And I made a bit of a joke.Of course waulk or waulking is part of the traditional process of making tweed, but I couldn’t think of a funny comment about tweed. But since you have popped up tweedle dum springs to mind -

You just have to follow the posts to see how we got there or got onto taking pics of cars etc.I know it is difficult for some to follow a conv, but sometimes they go a bit off track.Maybe read through things a few times and you will get there -

I see it differently and those on the walks are bigoted an I don’t apologize for having a little jokey pop at them -

Those that don’t have a decent upbringing are probably those on the Orange waulks!!!! -
I only went there the once.A bank holiday early the season and they were amazing, especially considering Street was a sort of Reg Luckhurst/Bert Harkins standard really
-
Not sure that all makes sense,Plus I don’t think it was 1973 was it?Crump was out pretty early that season and was in your team!!
-
Not sure that is true. When Street developed his 4-valve both he and Crump were much faster than most until they managed to catch up.Crump took a whole 3 seconds off a track record in Australia and the amount of full maximums they got was pretty amazing.Street for the first couple of months of that season must have been on a high average until everything settled down. It proved that the bike could make a decisive, even big difference even in the 70s

It is possible in some countries, like Germany to watch the GPs live and for nowt through the GP website for instance
-
Does remind me of the classic Standard Liege trick from the old Danny Baker radio show on how people get into football for nothing. Two guys brought themselves Liege club ties and then used to announce at top football clubs that they were club scouts from Liege and wanted to attend the next game.Seemingly they all fell for it lol
-
Exactly, but I think at least with the world championship the chances of dodgy dealings in a 20 heat meeting are greater than in a GP season.I think the need for such a deal is very rare in the GPs as it doesn’t often go down to the wire
-
Fair enough.Thought there was a story somewhere there, but did put a disclaimer at the bottom as I wasn’t sure But there are enough out there.Olle Nygren has stated something about races being bought in world finals, though I haven’t read the story. Was it in classic speedway or one of those mags?

Guess it is a case of being safe rather than sorry. If you don’t play the game, even a ‘poor’ opponent can still take you out Ronnie Moore in his online interview with Briggo, does make comment on a sort of mafia at the top of the sport when he first came over, who had control of things and it was difficult to break into this closed shop
-
Seems to remember a story about the Parker brothers in one of those post-war finals.Norman had 3 straight wins and in his 4 th heat was up against his brother, who he knew desperately wanted the title. So Norman let his brother win the heat, even though he could have won 4 on the trot.In his last heat he finished last, but he was of the opinion that if it wasn’t for letting his brother through he could have won that title.Probably again by paying off the others.Think that is correct
-
I’d also say over a GP series there is less likely to be any monkey business of paying off opponents.Think it was the aforementioned Jack Biggs, who after winning his first 4 rides didn’t think it necessary to met the monetary demands of one or two of his last heat opponents and then got shut out, finished last and last again in the title run -off!!! The question is,how many of the other champs thought it wise to pay out?
-
You taking the piss now.Mentioned that one as well
-
Think you must have missed my post from a couple of hours ago!!!!

The 1951 Final was also similar. In fact the top 2 in the end were on 4 after 2 rides. Two riders had 6 points and one ended up 7th and in fact the rider that had 12 after 4 rides then finished last in his 5th and 3 rd out of 3 in the run off for the title!!!Blew it big time. The rider who finished 4th,Ronnie Moore also had 4 after 2 rides The 1956 final, the top 5 in the end all had 4 after hit 8.Boothroyd was in the lead with 5 and ended up 10th!!
-
That is who I thought of as well

Not really wanting to get into this, but can’t resist.... but didn’t one of the Poles ein the World U21 final on the toss of a coin, because the meeting was called off early? So in theory if the rules were the same,it could be possible a meeting is cut short and a rider or two that haven’t won a heat are tied with one who has and by the toss of the coin one who hasn’t won a heat wins the world final!!!
