Well I had a maths teacher at school who was short and ok we were kids, but we used to laugh that he had to have a cushion on his car seat when he drove his VW camper. But he did seem to be that cliche of a small guy with a chip on his shoulder. The Meridian guy reminds me of that old teacher

Well I ‘know’ he was a bit of a twinkle when he was on here. The only funny thing about that was he was a bit of a thorn in Phil Risings side. And as I stated before,I had the opportunity of seeing him throw a wobbler at the GP ticket office once. The Funny thing was his short stature meant he could hardly see over the counter!!Bet the woman could only see some hair and a pair of eyes

The tweet was in very poor taste and I think from what I hear the guy is hurting a little.Someone told me he has deleted his twitter account. Not sure that is true, but I bet he has had an ear bashing from his wife and his business might well suffer. His place in the local community, given the photo with him collecting an award from the tourist board, may well have taken a knock.Still a few possibilities to put the screw on a bit more though

You aren't telling it how it is are you?It wasn't that he doesn't want immigrants in the country. It was the fact he said they (and it wasn’t about immigrants per se,but specifically illegal immigrants)should be drowned.Let a few die to put others off.Now that is right wing extremist rhetoric. That is what the Echo called him out on.If you can't understand that then that is pretty ignorant and as we have seen there are a few pretty ignorant people who think along those lines. The law is the law and as I have said,we have signed up to international agreements on how to deal with the situation and nowhere does that agreement advocate letting people die as a deterent It then becomes an image problem for Poole.Do they want to be associated with someone who has extremist views? It can damage the clubs image

I have promised I would keep out of all Johns usual rubbish. So for the moment I am keeping out of it all.Just to say, right at the start an ‘ok thanks for that,I will tell the webmaster’,would have sufficed. But we know how John works Nuff said

Not sure speedway was a great success there.Accordingbto ‘Homes Of British Speedway’,the promoter changed annually and it seems at least the first two years only 3 riders could compete in scratch races with no flying starts, just push starts as the track was too narrow and dangerous. In 1930 the straights were widened though, but the bends were very square because of the football pitch.Maybe it just wasn’t suited to the sport and no subsequent promoter wanted to take the risk? And after the war maybe Wimbledon was just too close? Would have been great to have seen a meeting there though

I said what I was going to do and did it.I was surprised it got into the paper as quick as it did. Also contacted the police who said they couldn’t technically identify the person Next step might well be to send that email to the paper to show them. They managed to identify the guy and he admitted it,so might be a story as to why the police couldn’t.....

You really are absolutely clueless. All I had to do was send them the link to this thread with the evidence you posted and just in case a link to meridian lifts website. They done all the rest like contact the guy for a statement and some of the comments from twitter which I have never seen!!It is that easy Keep coming back for another pumping

I do know Teo rode for Poland against Belle Vue in Manchester in 1956.A part of a Polish tour I guess.Maybe the Belle Vue team ride that year or around that time in Poland.Think there was a thread on here about it.That might give some info on the tracks in Poland at the time Found the topic, which confirms there was a track in 1955,which is probably the same as used in 1956,so predates the Slaski
-
Was it here?As the stadium was opened in July 1956 it might well have been a poor track if one was there at the start? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesian_Stadium

There is a bit of film of the racing at the Bridge.Seems the cars didn't use the original speedway track bends, but ran inside.Quite a decent crowd.Looks like the sport has dwindled a bit from those days.Is there any footage of speedway at the track,i wonder?

Winter time, and time to carry on with my little history of the Lokstedt track The planned meeting for the 9th October was cancelled due to the rain sticking around. In fact 2 days later the weather wasn't much better and only 3,500 turned up.The weather must have had some effect, but also the fact that they had kept the price of entry at the level when Sprouts Elder was racing, even though he was no longer present With Elder gone,Lees was unchallenged again as the best rider around the Lokstedt track and won the A rider final easily In the new Hamburger 'Wheel' event the races were held over 2 laps and favoured the good starters.Drews and Bill Kellner won the qualifying heats and with another good start in the final,Kellner won fairly comfortably from Stölting,Heck and Drews and had 5 pts towards the title The next meeting was a big improvement on the previous on,even though the high prices remained, there was at least the appearance of the Preston team from England as an attraction!!The meeting started with what seems a new idea of the riders parading around the track on their bikes. The Danes, led by Niels Sorensen, then the English with Lees and Burrill leading them, then last but not least the germans led by Niss. Drews, listed as being from Danzig had a challenge against the Count Strachwitz which he won.The Counts style of riding the track wide was stated as being a constant problem for him and wondered if he might learn something from watching the Preston team.Lees won his A Final from Ham Burrill and Jack Chiswell. There was a great race between Burrill and his team mate Claude Rye until Rye's bike packed up.In the other final Joe Abbott, who was the best Preston rider on show, won with his exciting style ahead of Frank Chiswell,Len Myerscough wh were well ahead of the others(Sorensen,Drews and Kellner). The main handicap final of the night turned out to be a disappointment as the awaited meeting between Lees and Abbott ended just as it was warming up.The two riders were battling it out, when Abbott got a puncture before the first lap had ended.Despite that,Lees couldn't make up the 2 second advantage held by Sorensen and so had to settle for 2nd

I just wanted to be helpful and point out a mistake that stuck out like a sore thumb as soon as I went on your link! You do seem to be a bit obsessed with a number of things, but not this museum site. You even have made a number of contributions,i see,so already I woud guess have made contact with the person or persons who run the site.I just thought seeing that connection had been made it would be easy for you, probably in your interest,to help a site you are connected with to correct the error(s).I am only a member of this site and only really have any interest in things posted on this site.At least I have pointed out,to any people who go to your link, that the site has many errors and people should be careful of what they read. For me,my job is done
-
But that really has nothing to do with a historical article that has got things totally wrong.Shame that the site has numerous mistakes throughout

Yes,I was there as well, hoping Tommy Jansson or if not PC would win

Quite an interesting piece on Mirac, through newspaper clippings that shows the impact he made

Anyway, here a little tribute to the Wembley impresario,Sir Arthur Elvin
-
I can also recommended a good book on pre-war Wembley, which i am sure has less mistakes than the museum website https://www.amazon.de/Wembley-Speedway-Pre-War-Years-Greats/dp/075243750X
