Boley Proch is name from the past!!Forced out of the Racers team mid-season.Who was the other Polish Racer a year or so earlier who if I remember rightly was involved in a crime?Sure it was answered years ago on here, but can’t for the life of me remember the answer.
No Netherlands team in the team comp, but one from Kazakhstan!!!And some angry Dutch riders I guess.Well I see one is quite upset with the Dutch federation...
Interesting reading, that speedway SA site.I didn’t realize Byron Becker’s UK career was so long and interesting to see a few of the old Dons like Andy Galvin and Mike Ferreira there
Quite strangely the original thread is now here rather than the subsequent thread joining in the international section!!!
Speedway in SA seemed to be on the wane even back in the 70s,But was still a winter destination for some riders.Think Autrey,Woods And McKnight toured before making their appearance on the UK In 73
All the best, but this is all current stuff,in fact your prediction or question on the future of UK speedway is the future. Not sure what it has to do with years gone by,which is probably why britmet put his thread in another section!!
Nobody mentioned one of my favourites,Andrew Silver!! spectacular rider, but maybe Swindon wasn’t one of his best tracks?I remember him more at Rye,Arena and his appearances at Plough Lane
I remember bumping into Barney at Vojens when he was giving Eddie a bit of vocal backing.I was impressed at what a nice bloke he was and thought at that time he had more muscle in his legs than most have in their whole body.Dave was also there, but I only saw him passing as he was mostly in the pits
Must admit I did do a search and came across a page of cigarette cards with Basil and quite a few I have no memory of,plus a few well known names, including a sporty Briggo!!
I can’t ever remember seeing the cigarette card collection before. So it is always good to come across a surprise or two
Isn’t that slightly (and i am being kind there )inconsistent? You firstly say May isn’t to be believed, then almost in the same breath will have us believe what she say’s!!!
I thought May has stated this is the worst case scenario. And no,sure she stated there is also a period where EU citizens will still be allowed to enter and work in the UK.It is quite obvious the UK still needs people to fill the many vacancies,so this makes sense
But May stated EU citizens will have until the end of 2020 until any change comes,so not this season.Just as in Berlin they have stated as long as you have work you won’t be affected.Although you will have to prove that is the case every 3 months!
Rob is also a bit unfair as this is ‘riders’ and Robs problem with Ole is down to the time he was Danish team manager and his association with Erik,I guess. But each to their own.I know I read Michanek didn’t like Ole
I do seem to recall Olsen was probably one of the few riders to be booed on winning a world individual final. But he always seemed to ride well at Plough Lane and I do remember the cries of ‘Ole,Ole,Ole..oi,oi,oi’!!!
I think this terrible treatment of a war hero was indicative of how we treated ‘foreigners’ who fought on our side.Even in fairly recent times with Gurkhas. And I guess special conditions were given to Lammy or were Americans still considered part of the Empire at this time?
As you say,who knows what will happen?Assurances have been given and even in a hard Brexit all that is supposed to happen is EU nationals will no longer have priority. So every foreign rider will be treated the same,it seems. If Grobauer has problems then so will any new foreign rider I guess.I imagine if he has any problem it will be on track, rather than off
Well moving this on a bit,a clip of a 'daredevil Yankee' winning in Paris in 1931(Tauser?)
