  1. It was also pot luck if you saw some of these guys.Halifax and Sheffield didn’t visit Wimbledon often and you’d sometimes be wishing they didn’t kick a rider out before we met them Another was Jan Jakobsen at Cradley. Can't really remember him.We were in another league by then anyway. But subsequently met him and his son.He managed Vojens,i think and his son was one of the best on the 80cc.From memory I was there when he won the junior world championship
  2. Yes,it is also possible if I look back I’m my old Programme collection I have actually seen one or two live, just they made absolutely no impression on me.Teromaa I do remember and his more successful brothet
  3. I guess what I mean is not only did I miss their UK career I missed their whole career even on the continent. At least with Bøgh I did subsequently hear of him.Same with Kurt Hansen from Halifax A number of these riders in the past few days the first I ever heard of them was when someone posted something here!!! Even living in Germany I have never heard of Odematt. But most of my speedway friends here come from the old East Germany so riders like Tetzlaff ,Ernst or Mike Ott are mentioned more than the West Germans
  4. The other two, again, never heard of!!!
  5. Ernst Boghs Museum. The first speedway museum in Denmark
  6. Ernst is still involved in speedway. He has I think stayed closely involved with Holsted. I seem to recall his name coming up quite a bit.It was also his daughter who became the most successful female in the modern era , and he has the first Danish speedway museum But you are right
  7. If I remember rightly Tebby wasn’t so much sacked as dropped. He was I think asked to ride in the second halves and refused and then I think shortly after got a team spot at Newport. That is life and sport What should have happened, but wasn’t the done thing at the time, was Jim should have had a meeting held in his honour
  8. I do remember them all and of course Gerd Riss, who really looked like he was going to be s good heat leader at one stage
  9. I did see on google that Raba now lived in South Germany. Not sure if he has any contact to the sport.Shawn Moran was also down south and helping out at one of the tracks I think
  10. Guess they make an exception for your stuff?
  11. Some I remember and some I haven't heard of.Have to say the period 1978-1981 is a black hole for me.Alan Fog !! Henk Steman could probably be replaced by Rob,who wasn't that good!!
  12. Franz Kreimoser? I actually recall Jens Krause Kjaer, but for some reason up until now I thought his name was Krause Kjaer!!! Another one who lasted longer, but doesn't often get a mention.Adolf 'Adi' Funk
  13. I have hardly engaged you on this topic, apart from praising you on what a great memory of the events and of course for drip feeding us over numerous posts throughout the day!!So show me where my attitude to a large extent has helped jog you?
  14. Brilliant. You are not someone I remember really having or at least sharing such vivid memories of much. More you share things that seem to be taken from a magazine or a Programme. So thanks for sharing this wonderful story over 3,4or is it 5 posts
  15. Another rider I have never heard of!!!
  16. When you think today everything is filmed umpteen times on mobiles,oh how we could have done with them back in the 60s or 70s ..,,so many memories
  17. I was at this meeting.I remember it was one of very few that year.It must have been a highlight of the season and the stadium was quite full.Far more so than the Dons v Hackney meeting I also posted. One of the few that I saw the tragic figure of Kenny Carter. Not one of his best meetings. What was great to see was the team riding there by Bobby Schwartz!!! If only Tai could have done something similar last season!! By this time though I had lost all interest in car racing. And that interest was never revived
  18. Seem to remember it having Clem Cort down for a few tracks including Wimbledon in 1929 or so
  19. Who were the nippers and where was this?My guess Canterbury although I was only there a couple of times.Sure that is old Hoskins waving the finish flag https://www.filmothek.bundesarchiv.de/video/584953?q=speedway&xm=AND&xf[0]=_fulltext&xo[0]=CONTAINS&xv[0]
  20. A clip going back to 1990 at the Long track,Scheessel of Maier winning a meeting ahead of Wiggy-Bit is right at the end https://www.filmothek.bundesarchiv.de/video/589970?q=sandbahn+rennen&xm=AND&xf[0]=_fulltext&xo[0]=CONTAINS&xv[0]
  21. A bit of footage of a 1957 meeting in Vienna which was billed England v Continent, but the commentator say's it is the Belle Vue team and looking on Brian Collins site it looks like it with Booey. The piece starts at 9:00.The Continent team includes Josef Seidl,Olle Nygren and Karl Killmeyer and a decent crowd too.. https://www.filmothek.bundesarchiv.de/video/584227?q=dirt+track+speedway&xm=AND&xf[0]=_fulltext&xo[0]=CONTAINS&xv[0] http://www.internationalspeedway.co.uk/autengvcont.htm
  22. Report from the meeting including the crash and also a coming together of Woryna and Jancarz, which probably cost Woryna the title as he was in the lead at the time!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Individual_Speedway_World_Championship https://www.filmothek.bundesarchiv.de/video/584825?q=dirt+track+speedway&xm=AND&xf[0]=_fulltext&xo[0]=CONTAINS&xv[0]
  23. Candidates for the 'names not the same' thread I wonder?
  24. Interesting one.He was born in Austria and went to Australia. He was naturalised, but lived most of his life in the UK I think. So did he remain an Aussie or did he get UK citizenship?Making him someone who changed twice?
  25. Well enough of that old tosh.A bit of England v USA action
