Kasprzak was also down to ride, but dropped out and was replaced by Pepe

Who will be taking Gregs place ?
iris123 replied to adonis's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Let him gain some experience whilst at the same time hoping Greg's wife has a speedy recovery and he is back soon. Not sure on the situation, but guess it isn't something that will be solved in the next few weeks though -
Well she still has a few hours to practice saying the towns name correctly !!!

Poole v Belle Vue Thurs 2nd May 2019
iris123 replied to SteveLyric2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Add the Chelsea game to that and does it add up to a poor crowd? -
I guess if you have Irish blood you could sort of take pride in the irish Brigade, formed from the pseudo-Fascist Blue Shirts, under the command of their leader who they eventually nicknamed 'O'Scruffy' Bit of a shambles and Franco didn't really want them and was quite happy when they dissolved and returned to Ireland. Even Ireland weren't happy about their involvement and destroyed all record of them..... There is also the heroic story of Hans Beimler, who was a Marine in the first world war and after became a communist politician, but when Hitler came to power he was put in a concentration camp, escaped and went to fight with the International Brigade and was killed in Spain. To bring us full circle his grandson is a well known screen writer who worked on a number of Star Trek projects. No speedway involvement there though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Beimler_(communist

Don’t know about grass track, but she did ride in Copenhagen and Hamburg. Although she looked pretty capable the whole thing was a bit of a let down in Hamburg as her to women competitors were not that good. There was a big gap between Taylour and 2nd places Bans Nield And then another big gap between Nield and Thornhill and it was repeated in all 3 heats they rode Tgey stuck around for the next meeting and Taylour was put in with some low level men, but unfortunately her bike packed up, so it couldn’t be judged just how good she was. And in the Women’s handicap she couldn’t make up the 20 second advantage that Thornbil l had and Nield dropped out with an e.f Not a great couple of meetings, but Taylour style was praised This was the summer of 1930 and not sure if they were by this time banned in the UK? Think she went to Denmark in 1929 and also made a visit to Australia

No doubt. I was just trying to help you with the post that seemed to have you dumbfounded ! Not many from the UK fought against communists. Far far more fought fascism, even if a number ended up having their first foreign holiday in Franco’s Spain.....

Go and give your head a wobble !!! Nobody suggested there would be

It isn’t that unusual in speedway (at least ice speedway)for competitors to be in a competition where they can’t win. Generally though in individual championships where there aren’t enough riders to fill the line-up. German ice speedway or Swiss ice speedway title comes to mind Aarnio just finished 2nd though I think in a Slovakian championship meeting,. No idea if he would have been Slovak champ if he won or if it is over more than one meeting

Yes I imagine it will be 7 and 2 reserves( no mention of who will be reserve in the release), but was hoping f-s-p would give us a bit of advise as to how many Finns are entering? Last year it was 6 Danes, 6 Swedes, 2 Norwegians and 2 Finns. Maybe we are down to just 5 Swedes this year? Or Finland just sending 1 riders? Only open to European riders and runs parallel to the World Juniors

If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists a volunteer is supposed to have said and off he went

In theory it might be good unfortunately the reality as far as I have witnessed is annoying. Egon Müller does it at a few tracks and a guy who calls himself ‘the voice’ also does some tracks. Both get on my nerves for differing reasons. We even had one announcer from Denmark as a member here a few years back

I thought it was just a normal race night? Was there and it wasn’t particularly special or hyped and didn’t really feel like it was part of something ‘ big’ , if you can call the World Games big
-
Of course they were welcomed back as heroes. At least in their communities. Don’t forget there were many ‘hard-left’ communities at the time and many people and of course unions donated funds to the cause. But did you really need to be ‘hard-left’ to be anti- fascist? But in Glasgow I met a couple of ex International Brigade heroes who were still in the 1980s revered One such story and it mentions the heroes welcome home https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/north-wales-heroes-spanish-civil-15488892.amp And Of course there was a real speedway link with the IB https://spartacus-educational.com/SPbeckett.htm

There was also Trevor Vincent / Trevor Charley who used the first name when he was under age ,I think

Be interesting next season how Vojens go. Very poorly supported last time they were in the league. Bring the fixture list back up to double what it is this year

Yes

Well there was Bill Barrett who rode under that name for Oxford and Arena in the 80s then turned up a couple of years back on ice speedway as Andrew Barrett!!

Watched a couple of heats from the Holsted v Slangerup meeting and Nicki was miles in front of Zmarzlik, who was even beaten by Bach if I saw that correct!!!
