  1. As I said Mr Rising, who is more of a media expert than either you, me or even Martin Rogers dare I say puts that scandal up there as the main reason the media interest dropped off. And in general unless you are Stock Cars, media interest plays a major factor in the success or failure of a sport. Ask any decent sports promoter or retail boss Darts and Snooker flourished at a time speedway was failing. Cycling for instance had a lot of problems because of their scandal. It isn’t just down to immediate falls in attendances, but lack of sponsorship etc from large companies or medium and speedway is left with local hairdressers and builders
  2. Over reaction yet again. Nobody said it was his fault. He played a big part in the scandal that hit the newspapers back in the 80s. Even Phil Rising has stated the media didn't really want to touch speedway after that as a genuine sport.
  3. Speedway is a term that was about before what you think of as speedway even existed. As chunky said speedway refers to tracks like Indianapolis which opened around 1910 or so and speedway racing was referred to at that time.....the sport we know was at first dirt track racing, but I have posted the link a couple of times here before in the US report of the early days at Indianapolis it referred to speedway racing because they were racing on the speedway. This as I said around 1910
  4. Maybe there was no intention of ‘sorting it out in private’ and a different agenda lies behind it all Not answering phone calls, doesn’t sound like an intention to sort things out in private to me
  5. Isn’t it though ok to call a teacher or a workmate names in a ‘private group’ ? I thought there have been a few cases that have come to the conclusion you could be in trouble if it is on an open site but not in a private group? Not that it is anything other than immature to do so, mind
  6. As I said it is weird. As someone else compared a 17 year old being able to ride. What if that 17 year old got someone else to ride for him? It has happened before that one brother has replaced another without permission and then got banned. This seems unfair practice as well
  7. Not a strong one as surely someone has blurted stuff that was ‘private’ ?
  8. They will probably all be on sportowefakty.pl the Stralsund meeting I would think would be in www, speedway-forum.de
  9. Is this a fact or an opinion I ask because I think I have seen statements before (maybe even from Steve Hone, who has posted here) that at least the Star didn't want new ideas or angles etc.... Seems a few points have cropped up. No 1 is he under age and is getting some big advantage he really shouldn't be getting? His father could be held responsible for putting the lad in this position he really shouldn't be in if a pass should only be issued to 18 year olds or over The other thing that bugs me, just on the surface as I don't know all the details, is why the fuss about him and nowt about the young woman at Berwick ? And tbh I get fed up quite quickly with all these strange pics with HD or the dark framing around the edges or taking pics from ground level.......
  10. In a way I think if we had the same situation in our work place the reaction would also be negative. It might not be bullying, but I have had situations when starting a job when someone has said they wouldn't tell me all they know, they had to find out for themselves so I would have to as well. Or someone actually said he was going to go slow(on London Buses that was) and put the blame on me being inexperienced.....so if a youngster comes along with all the gear and people are pulling strings all over the place I can understand people are well peeved. That shouldn't end in any sort of bullying though
  11. It is all quite weird. Of course we can't see the comments any more as they have been deleted. As I know one of the photographers mentioned it seems very surprising he is involved in 'bullying'. I do know that he certainly has moved with the times as he showed me all his mobile equipment a number of years back where he could edit and send pics off from the track. It is also surprising at first that speedway media are using a young untried photographer as I had the feeling tried and tested was preferred. Someone who people know is reliable and has done the job for years and will generally always turn up and produce. Obviously taking a big chance using someone who has no track record and you don't know if he will find something else to do in a year or so.....and you have p'd off others. Then of course you see the name Lanning and some of it comes into place. I did see a few pics online recently and thought 'ah ha'...... The thing is a couple of months ago a young lady at I think Berwick was also taking pics and was pretty good and then a fuss was kicked up and it seems she was stopped. Of course she isn't a 'Lanning' and so it all blew over very quickly so it seemed to me at least Bullying should never be tolerated, but hard to comment when we don't seem to know the whole story
  12. One of those 'expert opinions' ? Did he say it was all rubbish then? Bit like the 'expert opinions' that state a rider would never deliberately go out to hurt another rider, then a rider comes out in his autobiography or article and states he once went out to put someone in the fence and teach him a lesson......
  13. The idea that a rider who was caught up in a scandal that really hurt speedway in the country big time lost respect for one of the greatest riders we ever saw is quite hilarious......
  14. Think it is the Emil we all hoped to see in the GPs. It is the Emil I thought would be world champion.
  15. Liams 2nd meeting for Lezno running at the mo and he has done well so far https://sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/relacja/97728/iv-runda-dmpj-w-rybniku
  16. With VaR I would be ok. The doc would be called for r&r for his obsession!!!
  17. Ben has enough news on his own German sites, i’d guess. I know from experience that Aussies over in Europe look here because of the shared language. I used to get Chris Holders dad asking me for news, the same with Cameron Heeps’ family....,,
  18. But I was only following your precedent when you started. Sindy Weber thread Even though both her and Celina Liebmann are riding for Polish teams. Anyway I think Liam’s followers would appreciate a thread not clogged up with all that Polish stuff almost on a daily basis
  19. Didn’t look there because it is nothing to do with junior speedway!!!
  20. See another young Aussie is taking the continental route to start his career in Europe. Signed for Lezno after riding in Germany this month https://m.sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/relacja/97727/iii-runda-dmpj-w-pardubicach?fbclid=IwAR1DB_yHMvD2SCwaGgwUZPRxoyDhgZLiqF4FXt4keh7ujxxbvGQGrovE8Zc
  21. I am more and more the opinion that it is just down to pure luck when a young talent comes through. I mean look at Denmark, who have no problem with track availability and even in theory upped their game by putting Gundersen in charge of youth development. But in all honesty, as I have said a few times, the last top riders like Bjerre, Liglad, Madsen and Kildemand were all well on the way before Erik took the reigns. Bjerre and Madsen already on 500cc. Since that time Danish talent has dried up, Swedes have had problems getting someone through, the Australian system throws up a surprise now and again and we have got lucky with Lambert and of course Tai. But I have said before, the case of riders doing 3 or 4 leagues cuts down opportunities. But is it a chicken or egg situation? Is it necessary because there aren't the riders out there or does it put youngsters off at an early stage because they can't get the rides.... Is it only realistic to have an Elite championship with the top teams and have another championship for the lesser teams maybe with promotion/relegation each year? Cut out the dross and have a nailbiting comp. Although in speedway there probably isn't the money there to run a sort of 2nd division SWC
  22. So this year is the 50th anniversary of the revival of US speedway, and what a success it has been on the whole. Providing us with some great riders and some colourful times. Pity when you look at the state it has fallen in over the last decade or so, hardly able to get an international team together
  23. And how is the first week going? Apart from the disaster with Lahti
