  1. This is even more surprising for me, as I can't recall the track and it was during the years I was quite active as a fan. Whereas the New Forest track was before I was born, so I have an excuse there!! Was the Faringdon track set up and used by the Oxford promotion?
  2. You know you are dealing with a strange poster when you tell them about something and they later post to inform you about it.....you’ve just been gustixed
  3. Seeing a speedway magazine on the shelf in a shop was the way I got interested again in speedway. With 200,000 people passing through the place I would say it is more important to have a few there than in a supermarket The more people, the more chance of interesting someone. And people have more time to kill and look around in an airport anyway Obviously you ain’t going to get that though, but not only was there plenty of football magazines, but they also had big ads with changing photos of Liverpool, ManU, Leicester City, Wolves and individual players..... and for good reason
  4. Who was the person(s) behind this project ?
  5. Thanks. Must have missed that news. Typical, had a bit of time on my hands and thought the Star would be a good way to pass the time But with around 200,000+ people passing through every day it is an opportunity missed
  6. Ronnie Moore, Tommy Jansson. Hard to separate them really And Nicki Pedersen in the modern era
  7. Ringwood was the place I was thinking of, which is why I asked if it was known as something else. This seems to be a totally new (to me) track
  8. This is a new one for me. Did it go under another name perhaps ?
  9. At Heathrow today and Thought i’d see if I could get a SS at W.H Smith’s at one of the major hubs in the country. No luck, I ended up buying Football 2020, a season preview instead
  10. I used to love my Saturday trips up to Vojens, with an 80cc meeting in the morning (the days of Rene Bach,Jepsen Jensen, Michelsen and Mikkel Beck) and then an hour or so later a meeting on the big track with a visit to the Vojens bakers beforehand to get a coffee and some lovely cakes. Lovely summer ride up and back away from the motorway
  11. As the inspiration (maybe) I have managed it at least once, possibly twice, but as I said in my original the one that springs to mind felt like a cheat. Although I did do 3 meetings at 3 different tracks, 2 of those were at the Esbjerg complex where the 80cc track is just a 100 yards or so away from the 500cc track. Then afterwards on to Holsted I’d imagine it is possible often on a Saturday in Denmark where there are a number of tracks all relatively close to each other
  12. Didn’t Briggo get a wildcard into the final one year ? Yes or no
  13. A number of reasons given in Homes of British speedway At Poolstock there was a dispute between the speedway and greyhound people. The team transferred to Fleetwood for the 1948 season and the control board refused a license to run open meetings. I’d guess when they ran a few meetings in 1960 crowds weren’t that good At the other track the control board suspended the license in August 1952 and the next season some amateur meetings were held in front of poor crowds and then the promoters I’ll health put a stop to it all. Then discussions by others for 1954 broke down due to monies owed from 1952
  14. I did 3 meetings once or twice, but I remember it was a slight cheat in a way, as two meetings were at the same complex at Esbjerg. But two completely separate tracks a hundred yards apart, then off to Holsted later
  15. Even we missed the good times when you could make a few Bank Holiday meetings without leaving London. Think some riders did make 3 meetings, fans could probably make more if they didn't watch all the heats
  16. We go Stateside for something a bit different. Small track, like a Danish 85cc track at East Coast Speedway
  17. Then you can make a contribution to the discussion maybe ? I said quite clearly 'some'.....wonder why your ears were burning !!!
  18. Subtle use of the English language seems to baffle some on here
  19. How can you say Tai never qualified ? He did, just the same as Briggo did by winning the title
  20. Lee at the top of his game might well have been better than Tai. Hard to say 100%. But Tai has a far better record and will be remembered as the better rider because he was at the top longer....... he hasn't finished yet most probably
  21. Bit miffed that a couple of weeks after having Egon in the studio, a report about boxing in Hamburg said Max Schmeling fought at the Moto X stadium that the studios were later built on, when they were built on the Dirt Track Bahn where Sprouts Elder, Ginger Lees, Fay Taylour etc all rode grrrrr
  22. Worked with a lot of Poles, but only one was/is a speedway fan. A colleague who comes from a place just outside Gorzow and watches on livestream. I have avtually me more Germans at work who used to go. Partly because they either come from Schleswig- Holstein and that is where Egon Müller comes from and the hype around him back in the day was very big. One woman even went with a lot from her area in a bus to Norden. The others are from East Germany, Rostock area and the Teterow Bergring back in those days was one of the few weekends where youngsters really had freedom to party As is usual for me, I thought about travelling up to Vojens today. But I go to work every day on the motorway and it is generally horrendous, plus I have made a few trips up that have been affected by rain and the weather today isn't perfect, so my tendency over the past few years is to not go, if things aren't 100%. And as I will be in London next weekend when the next local meeting is on, which I would weather permitting, more than likely have attended, then I might not get to a meeting unless I can manage to get to Kent on the Monday...
