Depends. Robert Barth and Tobi Kroner were sponsored by McDonalds. You've heard of them. They have shops all over the world. One of the biggest fast food chains there is. But do you honestly think they were top earners ? Do you think anyone in a major McDonalds office in Europe, let alone the US had ever heard of them ? Just noticed Smoli is currently sponsored by Maccy D’s now. Possibly a continuation of the same local deal Kroner had....

2020 FIM Long Track
iris123 replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in Grasstrack, Sidecar, Short Track and Cycle Speedway
I chuckled to myself reading Smoli yet again moaning about the changes in heat schedule to please fans, sponsors, but the riders gain nothing from it !!! Surely if fans and sponsors gain, then riders do at the end of the day ? It would have been better to complain from the top of the rostrum, rather than 3rd place....... -
Won almost everything in the sport. 11 world titles ? But never the big one . Kicked myself that I missed him a few years back. Heard afterwards he was at a junior meeting I attended. Only a few hundred people there as well

A sportsperson would understand, a fan would understand. You would also think that a journalist of long standing would understand the spirit in which sport is played out and that there are always going to be popular and unpopular participants. It often pays to be unpopular. A lot have made a career out of it all. Like I said Fundin understood the reason he was unpopular, was that he was so good. Being popular wasn't important, being successful was. If he could go to Wimbledon and beat one of the most popular riders in the sport and along the way get a few boos, it was a price he was more than willing to pay, and it was something he was expecting. If there was a journalist, a forum member who despite all the years connected to the sport, didn't really understand some of the emotions, then it would be gustix.....

Of course it is your personal opinion. And my response was my personal opinion that you always seem to react against the spirit in which such threads are made. Nowhere as far as I can see is a single rider ‘ridiculed ‘ . That is just one instance of where you totally go against the grain of all the posts here up till yours
-
Think yet again you completely misinterpret the thread. As I said with Ove Fundin, he took it as a compliment that he was so unpopular, not personal at all. He laughed about it, as at the end of the day did most if not all who are named here There is absolutely no ‘ridicule’ at all. You do have trouble with a hell of a lot of threads. Maybe this isn’t the place for you ?

Polish and other match video`s 2019

Güstrow actually used to be a very good racers track, just have to ask Andy Smith about it. But from comments I have read it has changed the past few seasons. Some have complained that it is good to start and then after about 12 heats the big track work during the break destroys the surface. Didn’t see last nights meeting, but I know one meeting this year seemed to show just that. Some very good racing, then the last few heats nothing I also note that when I first went to the track about 15 years ago they still had rakers there, but a few years later it was just the tractors

Wasn’t Dominik just outside the quali places? I don’t think he is good enough after the early hope with him swapping life in. Germany for Denmark. But he was one of the better of the unqualified riders from memory. Not really for quotas, but the wildcards should be used intelligently for unlucky riders and to widen the countries a bit Crowd of 2,000 isn’t bad for a junior meeting

It is interesting watching some of the vids of Flat Track Canada. They only have 9 meetings in basically one area(Ontario) at 9 different tracks. Some horse racing or trotting tracks etc. They just hire out and at the tracks I saw there was no spectator facilities around most of the stadium and it seemed quite sparsely populated. Do you think that this is what is needed for a ' flourishing' future for UK speedway ? Just hire out a few stadium for about 9 meetings per season ? Will this make the sport more successful in the UK, in our opinion? I guess it is though a case of apples and coconuts. They both grow on trees, but have a very different taste. Speedway is basically a team sport, the basics of which to get that team feel is to have a base and have fans feel a connection to the team. Flat Track is just an amateur road show, like a circus traveling around. They don’t need a base. They might have a traveling following, but they might also rely on a few locals coming along for the novelty

You seem to have somehow got it wrong. I was asking for a clarification, not an update
-
Oh yes, forgot the Irons and was just at the new Spurs ground a few weeks back. First ever proper match I attended was at the old WHL and a great place it was

I guess Startrax Stock Car Promotion could be wiped out over the next few months if the rumors about their 3 tracks are true... Can you see them moving into or building a track Gustix or is the fat lady singing the Startrax tune ?

Any clarification on the use of ‘flourishing ‘ for Flat Track in Canada ?

Wittstock in Polish League 2020?
iris123 replied to iris123's topic in International World of Speedway
I imagine this has developed after the recent spat over the late cancellation of the Bundesliga meeting with Brokates, according to Wittstock because the rain made the track unfit. But according to the governing body, the meeting was called off just after Wittstock were refused use of a rider. Think it might have been Smoli. There was an inquiry which Mauer said was started by a complaint from Brokates, which Brokstedt deny. Mauer threatened to pull out of speedway altogether!!! They were in the end fined something like 6,000 € which they are appealing against !!!! So maybe that was what led to this decision being made What is also interesting is the bit right down the bottom, that Celina Liebmann might be in the team. A female rider in the Polish leagues !!!
