Yes, but it was all in Knutson and Miracs hands. They decided their own destiny. Lacked motivation etc, whereas with PC it was taken out of his hands and he could well have gone on the achieve more

Not read any of Crumpets posts before? Par for the course.....

Always difficult to say for sure, Sid. But there would have been a good possibility of a rostrum place or two. And probably qualified for a good few over the 10 finals
-
But with an 8 year age difference Williams had the advantage of being at the top of his game when Craven was coming up and got out just as Craven was at the top. Only qualified for 4 Finals all at his home track,PC 10......
-
Also one of the few that would put Freddie Williams above Craven, i'd guess !!!

Does sound very interesting indeed. The word crops up 3 times, so I am interested in the interesting development. Very

And a couple of your books were among those Foyles had on the shelves. I am not sure if Sportspages still exists, but I would imagine they might also have a speedway book or two on the shelves. But a random WH Smith’s in SE London is more likely to stock a boxing or F1 book or 2 than a speedway book I would suspect
-
No, but I think you would agree, if you ain’t stocking the book, you ain’t going to sell it. This is part of a longer conversation. Of course there is an alternative. Someone can order the book from the shop. That might, just might wake their interest in a niche market. But if you just go in ask if a book is in stock and then go, that in all probability is the end of the story for the bookshop. Now if that sort of thing happened quite often it might be another story ....As I said in a previous answer, Foyles in the center of London had a few speedway books a few years back, at a time when there were no longer any London tracks, so I have noticed the phenomenon you point out, and posted about it just this week
-
You are mixing up boxing fans with speedway fans. Boxing fans can be spread all over. There are though a number of long standing boxing clubs in SE London. The manager at WH Smith’s might have sold lots of boxing books, so orders more. Without any demand for speedway books they don’t stock any.... that is how business works Generally, but not exclusively speedway fans are situated near a speedway track. No doubt in the days of Wimbledon there might well have been a few fans in the Bromley area, but interest has at a guess waned since those days

As ‘World’ champ Craven did have some good meetings overseas. Is there any record of Williams or Price doing much outside of England ?

No,don’t take the mickey. He’s been trying his best in the SE London/ Kent border area to find Tais book without any luck. Though just why an area that hasn’t seen any speedway for 50 years or more if we count Crystal Palace should stock the book is beyond me

Tai Woffinden book at £8.99
iris123 replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
I am reminded of the Stewart Lee, Dr Who Museum bit. I can imagine your review of the Tai Woffinden book saying , the Tai Woffinden book has limited appeal apart for fans of Tai Woffinden. I was frankly disappointed that there was so much of the book devoted to the life of Tai and very little to do with Ron Johnson and absolutely no mention of Igor Baranov who was in the Red Herring Fleet. -

Oh come on Gustix. Man of the world and FB speedway group expert. This surely isn’t the first time you realized you can order books from a bookshop???? -

But that would have been the end of the story, unless Gustix reeled back in horror at the tattooed pic of Tai and said, look at the state of him. You wouldn’t catch Jack Parker looking like that, whilst walking out of the shop shaking his head and carrying on the conversation with a couple of teenagers at the bus stop -

Did you work in the comedy section of the South London Press? Did you say you used to make up readers letters in the SLP or the Star ? This should be a comedy series really John -

Sounds like a strange group. Either new members who don’t know you or you have just joined. Keep us informed on how this pans out. Sounds like it will be fun. Maybe you can try Foyles in London. Last time I popped in they had a good few speedway books. You could also have asked WH. Smiths to order it for you. They can do that sort of thing nowadays -
It is in my experience, as you say very predictable. Good in theory, but in practice the best rider generally wins all the heats, the 2nd best comes 2nd most of the time and the 3rd comes 3rd...

Tai Woffinden book at £8.99
iris123 replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Why on earth would people ask someone about a book that he hasn’t got and doesn’t even like the rider or modern speedway? This sounds weird and needs clarification. What sort of strange group is this? -

I must admire your endeavour in traipsing round town looking for a book on a rider you don’t even like. The trouble is when weighing up what books to stock from the list, the manager probably rejects ordering a copy of Tais book on the off chance that some bloke from Penge is going to pop in and ask if the book is in stock just for the sake of it. with no intention to buy it, so he can make a point on some forum Think that is self explanatory, with no need for clarification
