  1. Not sure, but thought we had a thread or at least a convo on this before. If i am not wrong our old friend Parsoles did mention there was a time when they tried to go from the original dirt track racing to 'dracing' along the lines that they wanted to use 'gracing' (i think from memory) for greyhound racing Speedway was of course in use previous to our sport (ok, that is another debate) with the Indianapolis Speedway....which then gave the name to the US car track racing....and speedway was in use in the US previous to track racing as being the name of the new highways for my tuppence. Sure norbold will give us more detail
  2. Last year we drove right down to Freiburg and over the border to France and back. It is certainly different, and different to drive down south. Although we went through the Harz mountains too
  3. Sounds like yu were stuck on a roundabout in North Germany...... We have mountains, skiing and even glaciers in Germany
  4. But you get all the perks of cheap alcohol and clothes etc. Load up the van...there ain't many perks in going to Finland

    RON JOHNSON

Did it mention 1929 and this incident ? Fines of 2 pounds for assault and 15 pounds for dangerous driving, with costs and his license forfeited, and disqualification from driving for 2 years, were imposed on Ronald Johnson. Evidence was given that Johnson in a sports car, drove at a terrific speed over Serpentine bridge, cutting between two cars which had to apply their brakes violently. In taking a sharp turn Johnson's passenger was thrown out and injured. The evidence stated Johnson became very excited when arrested and kicked the constable !!!
  6. Guess they are needed as the male riders aren't doing much these days...
  7. Think in 1929 a few UK women rode in Germany, and probably Denmark. Fay Taylour was the main woman rider. You could basically fill in the heat results beore they came out. taylour was almost a lap ahead......it seems in almost 100 years things haven't changed much. You could probably fill the programme in.....
  8. Back home and chatting to some of the older members of the family, i was told a story that i had never heard before. According to one of my uncles, when Ronnie Greene left, 3 former Dons applied to take over. Cyril, Ron How and Reg Luckhurst. Apparently he say's the job went to Cyril on the basis that he lived vlosest (Mitcham). Now my uncle thought Ron How would have been the better choice. Plus seems he held a grudge against Maidment for leaving the Dons in the lurch when Mirac retired. Then only coming back to Wimbledon when Ronnie returned to the sport. Not sure n any of that
  9. Funny that. I thought Klindt was right into all the conspiracy theories going round the last couple of years.
  10. Dohren also one of the smallest tracks at 230 yards. Pretty much rides like a circle by the looks of it
  11. Mirko Wolter. Smoli. Stephan Katt, but not sure if he is only doing Longtrack now Quite a few of the Danes would have been riding at some level. Junior for instance. But i did see Nicolai Klindt in 2004 in what was his debut year on a 500cc. Leon Madsen in the same meeting
  12. Surely it wouldn't though. Maybe that is why end of year was talked about. So it would be the climax, not just one round ?
  13. On the other hand hotel prices in London wouldn't be affected by speedway at Wembley. It isn't the same as having speedway at Cardiff. For Cardiff it is a big thing, but not for London. And of course London would be a great attraction for all the foreign fans, which Cardiff obviously isn't I do agree that after a few years the attraction might drop off. That has been proven at Cardiff, which hardly attracts many now. And even beforehand there were always questions about the announced attendances. But at least for a few years we might have a major attraction again and can ride the wave I doubt though that we have people in the sport with the vision. That has also been proven over the past decade or more. I doubt though that when the next Cardiff contract is up for negotiation, that it would be feasible with 20,000 to continue with the venue
  14. My guess was it was introduced from the States ? Either someone who went there got one, and Briggo is a candidate. But what about Dewayne Keeter ? There at least seems to be a pic of him and Sonny Nutter wearing them in possibly 1967....
  15. All for it. Alternate between the GP's one year and the next a Wembley one off Final. Stop things getting stale, which for me the GPs have. I'd certainly do Wembley, whereas i couldn't be bothered with Cardiff. Especially now it has gone downhill in a big way. Would hopefully give the sport a boost just when it needs it most
  16. Yes. Thought there would be more of a stadium seeing as it was a dog track. But just looked like the foot print of a track and the right road
  17. Am i right in thinking that is the track in the top left hand corner ? Or is it top right hand ? Or neither ? Guess Chequers Lane is the road past the Ford Jetty
  18. Had a German article of the highlights of the 100 years. No mention of speedway. I did reply with a little bit of history and a youtube video of Wembley 1938
  19. Problems with Teterow? And will the GP be moved to Bavaria ? https://www.nordkurier.de/regional/mecklenburgische-schweiz/nach-ruecktritten-wird-der-speedway-grand-prix-verlegt-1570858?fbclid=IwAR0UeXzFr0ZV-XweHxHPDe55MhieBRomOB02mrIrRNkGeeIsMKZWSvFNY1k
  20. They have had a rebranding. I think Turkey are trying to do something similar, as they don't want to be associated with the bird https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/oct/04/holland-the-netherlands-dutch-government-rebrand
  21. I think the worst ones i saw were where the answer was actualy in the question....something like which country does the Queen of Denmark reign over. And it left the person baffled
  22. Thought you meant they were confused with the Netherlands and Holland I have seen some stuff on Instagram where some guy asks random people geography questions in what could be Times square. And i think the only people who got something right were tourists
  23. You certainly got me confused. the Netherlands and Denmark ? And Dave Planning ?
