Swindon Robins V Coventry Bees 26th May 2015
DunRobin replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Trouble is, the equation isn't that easy. Many older fans pay a reduced price & very often, it's kids for a quid. It might be worth a punt however to reduce admission to a top price of £12 with no reductions for OAP's as this is lower than the present price for a few meetings to see what the attendances are like. I as an OAP would be quite happy with this. -
Yes but Ward's average is 8.7 from last year's sheet.
-
Would have to be a re-declaration surely, Wards average is higher than any other rider in the Poole line-up & you can only replace a rider with the same or lower average if just a rider swap.

Swindon V Lakeside Thur 9th April
DunRobin replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If you only go 4 or 5 times a year, perhaps you should go more often to raise the atmosphere. If it works, you may even get a sponsor to make it more affordable. Personally, I thought it was a good meeting & a pleasure to watch Hans in full flow. What a move in heat 15, simply sublime. I do not understand all the bitching about re-grading the track. We now have a superb racing surface & without the grading being done, it would quickly deteriorate & I expect those very same whingers would be saying "what a lousy track". -

Tape Touching - New Regulation
DunRobin replied to Mike.Butler's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
What really annoys me, is when a rider gets left at the tapes & the riders are called back for an unsatisfactory start, with the rider that is left at the tape being warned for moving! Punish him by letting the race continue & him losing the points, not give him another chance to get the points. -
Air Fence Safety Performance - Research?
DunRobin replied to Elephantman's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
But are today's injuries caused by the air fences? All the riders say that the new silencers are causing problems when you have to shut off the throttle in the bends & can never be sure when the drive will be restored, when opening the throttle up again & then suddenly kicks in giving too much drive. There also seems to be a lot of accidents in the GP's this year & many seem to be from ruts in the temporary tracks. If you think of it Ward, Woffy & Sajvutinov all have had bad falls in the GP's & I can't remember where Holder got his injury. A lot of injuries involving the top riders. -
I just don't understand how anyone can defend the double points rule, especially after a 10 points deficit. It gives the chance of pulling from 10 points down to 3 in 1 heat. I did not like the tactical substitution either but at least, a team could only pull back 4 points, they were still 6 points down if they gained a 5-1 heat advantage. The only people that really benefit from this rule is television as it may keep neutral viewers interested in a one sided meeting. Let's be honest, most people would love to see their own side winning 60-30 every meeting & with little away support in most meetings, there are very few people at that meeting who want to see the scores falsely adjusted. I think that it is even more of a joke in the World Cup, where surely the best team on the night should win the title!

I think that you have to look at the wage structures, there are many teams that are struggling with finance & I do not think it is just Swindon, Birmingham & Belle Vue that are alone in this problem in the EL. It also seems to me that there are a lot more foreign riders in the PL than when Swindon were competing in that league. You can not keep the foreign riders out of the leagues but if a sensible wage structure based around the annual turnover of clubs were implemented, how many riders would still want to come over. Speedway needs to take a hard look at finances & not follow what has been allowed to happen with football. Over the coming years, I am expecting a lot more lower football league clubs to go to the wall as the Premier League continues to take more & more money & does not pass anything like enough down to the lower leagues but just allows more & more money go to the top players & their agents.

Football's mid-season transfer system is nothing to do with the Bosman ruling! Footballers were still free to move at anytime during the season following the Bosman ruling & a transfer fee was payable or a loan deal, if the player was still under contract. The transfer window came in due to a UEFA rule change affecting all European clubs. Therefore the present moves during the season would still be able to happen even if the asset system was overturned.

British Grand Prix, 25/06/11
DunRobin replied to alan_boon's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Whilst being there may be exciting, I think that it colours how you actually see the racing because of the excitement generated. I don't see how anyone could sy the the track was good, it was just about OK. The fact that not a single heat was won from gate 1 shows that the track was not perfect & in fact for the first 14 heats, I think all of the heat wins came from gates 2 & 4. Later in the meeting this changed & gates 2 & 3 were the best. This is the problem with one off tracks, so much depends on gate position & to me this spoils the meeting. There was definitely some good racing but not a good track. -
Cardiff Grand Prix

Obviously a case of too much Fosters taken on board or is there an Ossie ref coming over! -
Think you will find this was ironic humour. Batchelor not one of Frigbo's favourite people!

2010 World Cup Calendar
DunRobin replied to IW08's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Does this mean that Kings Lynn will have to get an air fence or is this not required for the Speedway World Cup? I seem to remember that they lost the Elite League Riders Championship because they would not fit an air fence. -
2010 Grand Prix wildcards
DunRobin replied to gaztrotter's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Must agree, the sooner our so called English/British super stars are given a kick up the a*s, the better. They should be forced to qualify on ability through the GP qualifying rounds. No place for winning the "Mickey Mouse British Riders Championship"! -
Which Brit Should Get A Wild Card?
DunRobin replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Is having a British rider in the GP's really a commercial decision? I'm sure that the attendance at Cardiff would not drop off that much if there were not any Brit's. Supporters would still turn up to cheer on the rider from their team, like Swindon supporters have always followed Leigh Adams. I do not believe that any British rider at present is really up to GP standards & if there were none in them, it might shake things up enough to see something done to improve the standards!
