I wonder if Mega Lada will put on a good interval show today. Plenty of insanity and beautiful girls.

Beautiful stream with commentary and action replay. Superb. Nigmatzjanov showed why Russia has a good pool of talent. Fantastic effort against two established riders. Will be one sided of course but hopefully a few races like that from Oktjabrskij Nice little stadium and a decent crowd or as Pearson would say a 'packed house'

Excellent stuff mate. That's my day sorted

Belle Vues National Speedway Stadium

They don't as I explained above I think Phil is mixing it up with a developer which is a different thing. For me the most disturbing thing about all this is that the only purpose of the official website is to sell bricks at £49 a shot. This to me is a disgrace as the project has gotten nowhere in the years since it was announced. These brick sellers conned people into a belief that the stadium would be used for the 2012 WTC and we can only guess how many well meaning people bought these high priced bricks. Nowhere does the site inform about the project and the FB page was last utilised in June 2012. The recent council minutes state that the project is awaiting 'further design developments and negotiation' before 'further details of the capital costs will be submitted'. This does not sound like a project that is anywhere near the construction phase. If this project nosedives, which seems a possibility, what chance will the brick owner have of getting their money back? The site should stop selling meaningless bricks and concentrate on keeping people informed. It looks like an internet scam site rather than something to do with speedways last hope of ever dragging itself out of it's self dug grave. -

There are easily ways around that. Simply by breaking the whole up into packages one can avoid such a thing. A lot of construction jobs do this. I once worked on a huge several hundred million pound sewage treatment project which had half a dozen different major contractors involved in packages and twice as many minor contractors working alongside the major ones. Even small projects like the speedway stadium can be broken up into packages with more than one contractor involved and no tendering. -

I worked for contractors for 40 years and never heard of any job where a contractor sought planning permission. That's not what contractors do. I think this is a matter of crossed semantics. I think Phil means ISG has been approved as the developer and they are in charge of overseeing a construction process in which case they may well have a hand in planning permission. Which means an actual contractor ie those responsible for actually building the thing has yet to be found or appointed. That contractor may well be ISG itself and as daft as that sounds it is not uncommon in the construction industry to work on a job where the firm you work for as a contractor is actually working for itself as a developer of a project or development partner therin. I have personal experience of exactly that and believe me working as a contractor for the same company you are working for as developer is not as much of a cake walk as you might think. Insane as it sounds a firm working as a developer does not always accept a tender from itself and may well give the work to a rival with a cheaper bid. Also a firm employing itself working in-house as a contractor sometimes is a lot harder on itself when it comes to construction specifications. What that means to me is the project is under development but has not got to the stage where the nuts and bolts of actual construction can be put into practice such as prepare a site and make the steel etc. In which case it's just another project waiting to be given the go ahead and as such could vanish with the morning mist as so many like it do. True but speedway does have a history of being run by people with the business acumen of a used car salesman whereas most other sports have a bit more of a clue. -

Wasn't making that comment at you, apologies, my bad, it was what Philip described them as. You did miss out the word Phil in my quote in your post though. And I wasn't saying that they could not do the job. I have worked for small local firms who could knock that up easily. But to addreess one point you made. The size of the company is not directly proportionate to the standard of the job they do. A large firm might send their poorest labour to a job this small whereas a smaller firm might consider this a more important flagship job and send their better men there. I have worked for massive firms that did a lousy job and small firms that did an excellent job. In days gone by some of the biggest civil/building firms in the country had reputations as lousy builders but had the finance to get the work over firms who could not compete with them. -

Massive they are NOT Phil. ISG are a medium sized company who have less than 50 million in projects for this year ranking #17 in this years contractor list. Can't say I have heard of them but that is no surprise as companies are constantly being amalgamated, taken over or just dissapear. But again this is meaningless. All companies have filing cabinets with contracts in the pipeline. Many of which will never even reach the stage where a contractor even visits the site. Any reasonably sized building/civil company could cope with such a small contract. The prep work minimal, steelwork will likely as not fill one wagon, the concrete involved trivial. The rest is simply labour and sub contracts. If it wasn't finished in 6 months the whole crew would deserve the sack. Happens all the time mate. Means absolutely nothing. I have worked for firms that have won tenders for jobs that simply dissapear and are never heard of again. Was there an actual tendering process for this? Seems odd, as it costs money to prepare a tender, that something not only as small but with a poor track record would warrant one. Obviously not impossible but just sounds off to me when councils nowadays prefer to keep a list of preffered contractors and award jobs rather than tendering. -

That is not surprising Tiger. Most councils have a list of preffered companies for building projects as small as this. A tendering process for such a tiny project would be expensive so councils simply assign projects to their preffered list. It probably consisted of someone going around the preffered list and asking who fancied it. Or maybe the massive firm bought somebody lunch and said 'we will do this for you'. Sometimes companies would do such a tiny project at a loss to allow them to get something bigger. The profit margin for a massive company on something so trivial as building a shed and a oval surrounded with some landscaping is tiny to non existent so it is probably the above scenario. Big firms refer to jobs like this as hospital jobs and use them to keep machines and men working whilst waiting for larger more important projects. -

Bloody hell Phil it might be worth buying shares in that company as they were just very large on the other thread and are now massive. I have worked for small, massive and very large companies in the construction industry and 6 mill is a tiny project and something as tiny as a tin shed and a bit of dirt shaped like an oval would be no big deal to a small firm let alone a massive one. So the size of the company is really irrelevant as all sizes of companies in the construction industry are having a really bad time so you might see a massive firm bidding for a garage extension soon. Actually all massive building companies have small works departments and do indeed compete with small companies for minor projects like this tin shed. They have been 'pushing through planning permission asap' for a while now. I have seen many a project with planning permission fall by the wayside so even that really means nothing until someone takes a machine and a couple of cabins onto the site and strips it ready for construction. I personally have been assigned to projects that even after that phase have been shelved so even that is no guarantee. -

I have worked for some of the biggest civil/building companies in the world and have seen many a project a lot bigger than this tin shed come and go so what you said Phil means nothing really. No planning permission means no project. No sane company would waste a lot of time on something that has not gotten planning permission yet. Good question -

I worked in the building industry for 40 years mate Still the website contains nothing apart from brick sales and the website should not be affected by council lethargy. The FB page has not been updated for over a year. The FAQs gets me as there are loads of FAQs that supporters are asking than how to buy a brick. I can't remember whether this became a 'reality' in 2010 or 2011 but there has been plenty of time to formulate a website that informs the prospective brick buyer. I wonder when this whole project goes belly up whether the brick buyers will get their 49 quid back Having seen many projects touted which were much more realistic than this tin shed fall by the wayside it does not look good. that the only active part of the project involves fans giving money to buy a virtual brick. It's reminicent of that bloke who wanted us here to give money to finance his speedway drama. -

With the 2014 SWC looming and this stadium which was to be built for the 2012 SWC still nothing more than a pie in the sky fantasy the question remains is this a feasible concept or nothing more than a scam to sell bricks for 50 quid. When you consider that the website set up for this project is nothing more than a place to buy a very expensive brick it seems more and more to me to be a scam. http://nationalspeedwaystadium.com/ The FAQ section contains 8 FAQ which are ALL regarding buying bricks. I would have thought that years after the project was first put forward there would be several thousand more FAQ than the 8 here. I wonder if anyone has been insane enough to hand these people 50 quid for a brick that they will probably never see. Personally I would not trust this crew with 50p let alone 50 quid if after all this time the website for the project is so threadbare and brick sale orientated. Feasible or Scam? That is a very interesting question. Looking at the website scam seems favourite. -

That shows how much nonsense has been talked about this National tin shed. If it does not even have planning permission then 2015 will be an optimistic date for it. Would not surprise me if the whole idea is quietly dropped in the next year or so. I just looked at the national Stadium website and they seem to just be selling bricks and paving slabs for 50 quid rather than anything to do with an actual speedway stadium. Their FAQ are all about how one buys a brick/paving slab. I would have thought that there would be more frequently asked questions than Q. Should I have a Brick or a Paver. You can buy a much cheaper brick or paving slab from your local builders merchant or simply steal one from a building site. Then write a message on it with chalk or black marker pen. It will have as much chance of being seen as a 50 quid one in a fantasy land speedway stadium It looks more like one of those scam sites that tries to get your banking details. If that's all that's there years after they announced this fantasy then I would say it will never happen. -
If it was good enough for It's A Knockout it should be good enough for speedway. If calling something something else was all that was wrong with speedway then there is nothing at all to worry about in 2014.
