Latvian Gp Saturday 17th August
pandorum replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
We can all bring in an 'if' mate and it was a decent GP and Darcy did do well but he only got in the final due to a cock up by Lebedevs so lets not get too carried away. He did not look too exciting when Lebedev passed him in the semi Lot's of riders who probably would have won something suffer injuries at critical moments it's part of speedway. Ward might have had a couple of poor meetings if he did not get injured and be well behind Woffy and Emil. He might not have. We will never know. His recent league form has been poor but that does not mean he is not one of the top prospects to win a world title. Just like Emil and one of the biggest surprises of 2013 Tai Woffinden. Of course you want to bull up your man. I like Emil but Woffy is the one in the driving seat. He had his own injury problems as did the Russian. Whichever of the two ends up champion deserves it thouroughly and 'likely'would be champion even if Wardy had been fit. You will look a fool if you peddle 'Ward would have won if he was fit' as an argument. -
Did SKY not bring this to the BSPAs attention? I doubt speedway will ever find anyone as loyal to the sport as SKY. Speedway had a golden opportunity to showcase the sport but failed miserably not just with crowds but with surfaces and fixtures that were embarrasing to the sport. Next year we will see what masterplan these idiots come up with to compensate for the loss of cash, the EL and probably the loss of a few teams as a result. I doubt there is one sport anywhere in the world that has made as much a mess of so much TV coverage and promotion. Chimps could run the show better

Unlucky Lebedevs. Guy deserved his lap of honour. Ward fortunate to make final -

Well done Lebedevs. Sad for poor old Emil. He looks slow and also seems the pressure is getting to him. Woffy going from strength to strength. Riding like a world champion. Wether he thought about the race with Nicki who knows but he will likely lead the pack and may even win this one. Long way to go and don't rule Emil out but Woffy in the driving seat it seems. -
New Generation Who Will Push On.?
pandorum replied to stratton's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Lots of young Russians showing potential. Tarashenko, Nigmatzjanov, Chalov, Borodulin, Chindilov, Belousov and lot's of others. The Latvians proved they could do well outside thier home territory. A couple of decent Ukranians. Poland has a good crop of upandcoming riders Przedpelski one of the best after having a couple of years playing bit parts for Torun. Denmark have some decent talent in thier top setup. I was impressed by Claus Lauridsen on Wednesday and there are plenty more with good experience already established in the Danish league. We have one or two decent prospects but they have to get themselves into the foreign leagues. Denmark, Poland or Sweden. It's of course all about backing for these lads but many a foreign rider comes here with little of no backing and proves themselves. Until our boys take a chance and establish themselves abroad then they will not be among those pushing on. It might be comfortable for them to be a big fish in the PL and a bit player in the EL but British speedway will not produce the next Brit SWC winners. If Australians like Micky Dyer can ride in Denmark why can't our young prospects get themselves over to the continent? -

Last year I think that would have mattered but Tai in 2013 is a different proposition. Look at how he perfromed in Russia on a track he did not know. Either of those guys for me to be champion. I think Emil has the edge due to his paying his dues in SGP. Tai's time will come but he has to be able to repeat this year in 2014 and beyond. He has the credentials to be world champ and has proved all of us doubters wrong this year. Good luck to both lads today and may the best man come out on top -
Danny King - Who Picked Him As A Wild Card
pandorum replied to Mark's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It was a toss up between him and Steven Fry and they settled the matter with a game of paper, scissors, stone. Does it really matter as he will not be in the SGP next year nor would anyone else who had been there instead of him. We should be grateful that we are even allowed a representitive as plenty of better riders will miss out. Speedway fans used to laugh at the East European nations back in the 60s and 70s but now we are where they were a speedway backwater. -
Some fabulous speedway and a good crowd. What a place to watch speedway at regularly. Russia has 3 of the best speedway riders in the world and for me the GP needs the Laguta brothers instead of wasting time pandering to Chris Harris types just because they rider for some country. If there are two picks left for next year Laguta should be both thier surnames. Russia need to get their act together as they have a SWC winning team with the crop of youngsters they have and this trio. If Szombierski starts to score Czesto are gonna dance this years league.

Pity would have been nice to see Lenar and young Sergei Darkin
-
Hope it's OK I like watching Lenar Nigmatzjanov as he is a really good Russian prospect are there any live updates?
-
Nasty smash that hope both are OK. Jensen probably did not mean to fence Wozniak but it sure looked like it. Daft as it may sound I thought that kid Claus Lauridsen rode well. His #10 was awesome and he only lost a place due to a couple of mistakes he made on the bends. It's been a while since I saw someone work so hard for one point. His other races he looked steady although his gating let him down. He had a decent style. One to look out for there.

riders seem to still have leathers on so maybe they will give it a go. it does look a mess so my sympathy goes to the riders in heat 7 Think I will give it a miss. See you guys on Thursday. Will miss Denmark tomorrow but will watch the replay at 9.30 Thursday. We may have Russian action too.

We have all travelled hundreds of miles watching this silly sport in monsoon conditions and ended up having a few beers and a chinese before going home without seeing a wheel turn :)

I have an absolutely beautiful HD quality on Canal 8 but sadly no racing Looks pretty bad
-
Yeah I thought Nicki was innocent but his reputaion does precede him a bit. Some decent racing.

Anyone got an English link? I am in Polish at the moment

Until the footy season starts and Liverpool begin thier relentless rise to the top of the Premier league. No wait I just dreamt that. They are crap and will be lucky to avoid relegation at this rate

You make a worthy point about moaning about the commentators then what do you do? You moan about the commentators. I think Kel explains things better than Scott. Does that mean my opinion is worth more than yours? Of Course not. Your point about Eurosport being prepared to bring the coverage to us when SKY wasn't is frankly laughable. How long did SKY cover speedway GP? Of course it's a shame SKY dumped GP for F1 and football but now somehow SKY are nothing and Eurosport speedways saviour. SKY did more for the sport than ANYONE ever has done for speedway. Eurosport have given us GP and also two new competitions. I give them huge credit for that. But thier commentary team is not as good as Pearson and Tatum. That is my personal view. Not necessarily the view of the speedway world. And frankly I am entitled to it the same as you are Well said crazy person

This pettiness between people who do racecards is becoming rather dull. I presume Paul got the line up from a website not just pulled it out of his arce therefore HE did not get the line up wrong at all. All your race cards are a wonderful addition to the online experience. Can't you just all get along as the International section is one of the few parts of this forum that does not bore me with it's arguing and bickering.

Yeah that was a totally bizarre choice considering that they both (I think) had first pick. Some good speedway and some not so good. Basically a SPEEDWAY meeting. But of course the naysayers live in a world where every meet is packed with passing and excitement. Something I never saw in the thousands of meetings I attended. I guess we will never find that speedway Nirvana A real 'packed house' for a change and Russia pretty much proved it can stage a GP. Obviously there are the politics to consider regarding the visa situation etc but that's Russia for you. The atmosphere was a bit muted because of the sound but it looked like the crowd enjoyed themselves and made themselves heard in support of thier riders. Woffy again proved his world title credentials and if he keeps this form up with those bikes may well land the biggest prize of all. Emil looked really slow but still managed to win The world title run in looks like it will provide a really exciting end to the GP series. This European series is also gonna have an exciting finish with half a dozen riders in with a chance. Gregory Laguta showed he was a lot better than his 1st round and put himself back in the hunt. Gollob is another one that can't be ruled out as when he takes an interst in things he can beat anyone from any position on the track. Well done Eurosport for bringing us this and the Pairs. Hopefully they will continue with it next year.
