  1. Poor meeting from Belle Vue's point of view, Kurtz & Blodorn aside. Lidsey, Cook and Bewley (especially) will have to be more consistent if the Aces are to have any impact this season. They'll be fine at home, but away they are sadly lacking. Well done to Birmingham though, well deserved. Like others, I can't understand why heat 15 wasn't awarded - potentially a totally unfair result if Bewley had turned left a bit harder in the rerun.
  2. I think it will be pretty close, but the Aces Big Guns will see them through at the end 43-47
  3. Think the Aces might struggle a bit here. They will need Blodorn, Cook and Lidsey to really turn up if they are to have a chance. 50-40
  4. A close one for sure, but I think that the Sheffield heat leaders will prove too strong in heats 13 & 15.
  5. I agree with most of the posters that Ipswich will be too strong on Thursday. 10-14 point margin. Belle Vue will be very strong at home based on their collective performances in the Peter Craven Memorial Trophy, but they'll need Lidsey, Cook or Blodorn to develop into a genuine third heat leader if they are to win many away matches.
  6. Very enjoyable meeting with some good racing and lots to talk about on the way home. What more could you ask for at this stage of the season? Seeing Kurtz and Bewley battle it out in the final with Fricke just behind is what speedway should be all about. The track staff should be congratulated on an excellent track for the time of year. Thought Celine did very well to be honest and she improved every race.
  7. I'm sure rider replacement will be at Belle Vue as well.
  8. I concur with other posters. Hans was a great servant to British speedway and was always good with the fans and media. Sad to see him struggle last season. I'm also glad that he's retired on his own terms without any long term injuries. Thanks Hans, hope to see you around the tracks.
  9. I think that the signing of Celine is undoubtably a marketing ploy to attract the media attention - and fans as well. If it attracts a few more young girls to watch the sport, and maybe even give it a try in the future, then Workington are to be applauded for their vision. I don't think that anyone expects her to be desperately competitive, but that's not the real reason she has been given an opportunity. Good luck to her and the promotion for having the balls to do this (I know what I did there!)
  10. I think that it's a team that will improve as the season goes on, and will just about make the playoffs, but they are a level below Sheffield and Ipswich at the start of the season. As always, injuries will make the difference as the season progresses
  11. Is there any news on Charles Wright's recovery? If he intends to come back, will the Aces give him a chance?
  12. A sad, sad loss to the sport. Every track has it's good and bad meetings and I saw plenty of good racing as a visiting Aces fan in the past. So sorry for the loyal fans who deserve great credit for supporting their team through thick and thin. Hope that one day we will welcome the Wolves back to the sport.
  13. No point pointing the finger at BV riders. They've had a great season in the whole, but all seven had a poor meeting last night and will be disappointed with their scores. Track conditions didn't help obviously, and Bewley doesn't seem to like the Foxhall stack, but it's not an excuse the better and more committed team won easily on the night
  14. Such sad news. By all accounts a top guy as well as a top rider. One of speedway's 'royalty'. RIP Gordon
  15. None of us know what's going through his mind at the moment, so let's just let him sort himself out and decide his future over the winter. Riders like Shawn Moran and numerous others knew when the time was right to quit, if Cookie's reached that point then good luck to him and thanks for the memories.
  16. Oh for a John Berry type 'supremo' who could bash a few heads together for the common good. I think it needs someone to take control with the clubs falling in line with him / her. Who it could be I've no idea sadly.
  17. I was amazed when Abi went to interview Charles Wright straight after his nonsensical exclusion - I expected a lot of bleeping being necessary! Fair play to Charles, he kept his cool admirably.
  18. Ipswich ran the Aces closer than I thought. The best team won in the end but the referee nearly spoilt it for everyone. Luckily the bad decisions just about evened out, but that's no excuse for incompetency of that level. Doyle wasn't to blame for Bewley's fall and Wright hardly moved a centimetre - do the refs get assessed? If so, tonight should warrant a demotion. On a positive note, Emil Sayfutdinov goes up in my estimation every time I've seen him this season - a racer right to the end.
  19. To freshen things up, maybe the series should be extended to (say) 24 riders, with 16 in each GP as currently but each rider missing a couple of GPs so that they all have equal meetings through the season. They would all ride in their home country of course. This would allow 'lesser lights' to have a go at GP level (Kubera, Kurtz etc) and may be allow a few shock results.
  20. Another tight one, but the Aces to come through 49-41
