Tricky conditions with the same riders as usual giving 100% and the usual suspects waving the white flag when it got tough. Edinburgh stuck at it and thoroughly deserved the win. We haven't been good enough this season so no excuses but it's the first time in many years I have felt so let down by certain riders who clearly don't give a monkeys about the fans. Will be there for the last few meetings to support Rob Godfrey and the riders who do give it a go but if we are to run next year I hope we refresh the team with riders who do care. Jake Allen would be a good start,a breath of fresh air on his debut

Does seem a lot but a quick check on another supplier website shows a price of £44 for the plug,a cheeper one is available but I can't see too many pro riders scrimping on a small item like this. Nice to see some openness on pricing, hope the other suppliers do the same

I don't think I've suggested any points deducted as part of any ruling, people have assumed that may happen had the appeal been upheld so no contradiction from me. I would have liked some clarity but all that's been given is a justification via one of many possible readings of the rules In my opinion results should be earned on track not via an appeal,we had the chance to win the meeting in the 15 and didnt

It may be absolute crap that Alex Harness was involved in the decision, the problem is none of us actually believe decisions are taken impartially within speedway at all. None of this is Scunthorpe or Edinburgh's fault really it's the primary school standard of rule book everyone is trying to work to. Re Rob Godfrey appealing in time,to which interpretation of the rules should he appeal and was he made aware of the type of facility to be used as Davey is clear to ride under one clause and not the other. It's clear to me from statements at the time an nlg was intended, the rulebook has allowed it to be justified another way. The biggest shame here is that there's been more debate about the rulebook and appeal than what was an outstanding meeting and to me that's why speedway continues to struggle. I'm a Scunthorpe fan and obviously disagree with the ruling but I completely accept the match result as it was unaffected by any of the above and that's the way it should be.

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2016?

Maybe the issue isn't a lack of funds but a lack of available number ones -
Scunthorpe Scorpions 2016?
hunch replied to Paul Johnson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
We all would like to see the likes of Steve Worral etc at the club but riders move on for a variety of reasons, the one that is a big blow is TJ,a massive friend of the club and a real loss to the team,he felt a change of track would push him on to be a better rider and you have to respect that. We have to develop our own as we can't throw money around to pull in others the downside is they will move on at some point -

I don't think Ty has a visa so pretty sure still at home working so even if he signed for anyone would be a few weeks away. Would be happy enough if I'd did happen although i still think we will be ok if one or two can regain some confidence -

Outsider,i would imagine the promotion will be talking to any available rider in an effort to improve our fortunes but the rider in question has to want to do it and at this stage of the season will Proctor want to up sticks and come over? Given the circumstances if the rider signed is Lewis Kerr I think it's a good move with maybe more to come if form doesn't improve -
Scunthorpe Stags Vs Kent Kings (nl) - Sunday, March 30th
hunch replied to lucifer sam's topic in National League Speedway
And all of them started with averages at or around 3 with Scunthorpe...thats a team thats built not bought..so I fail to see your argument Completely different to todays teams where the best riders are cherry picked from others and paid premier league wages..now THAT is win at all costs -

I think I could accept some comments from HT as valid but I cant see where the super team of 2007...win at all costs bit comes from and therefore the change in attitude Look at the riders in that team and tell me where money and win at all costs came into it Woffy..signed as a relatively unknown 15 year old with Scott richardson initially preferred Josh Auty..signed as a 15 year old as with woffy for nothing Richie Dennis..with scunny from day 1 Andy Tully..no team post armadale Joe Haines..signed as a 15 year old Scott Richardson..scunny from day 1 Byron Bekker..brought in by Kenny Smith and had no team post the Gems I cant say if Scunny ever paid above league limits but I do doubt that they were ever exceeded to the extent they are now (basically premier league money in some cases) The truth is Scunny got lucky...the same as when the Worralls and Ash Birks came through together...you just have to put yourself in a position to be lucky Only time will tell if this project proves a success..my guess is the team will be tweeked over the season and will improve along the way -

I agree that its difficult to find a balance and there always needs to be room for an experienced head in NL teams...does make me chuckle a bit when the Kings felt the need to run RR rather than giving someone like Luke Harris (or another rookie) a go As better riders move up and older riders retire a real shortage will inevitably kick in unless the problem is addressed. Incidentally-who could Scunthorpe-or for that matter Buxton use as heat leaders to beef the teams up,Kent have three very experienced riders surely it would be better to drop the points limit in future seasons and share the better riders out a bit to provide a more even league. The young kids are out there we need to give them a chance,Scunthorpe will always do that and will reap the rewards in years to come as will british speedway -
Its so difficult to judge teams at this stage, for me the team looks like its going to be one built with the first changes in average in mind..assume your new No1 drops a bit off his average, koppe could easily drop two points(think hes a decent rider but most assessed guys drop back first) and all of a sudden you have got a lot of options. I think you could be super strong especially at reserve with a change when averages allow and sometimes you have to build that way when you use assessed riders

Scunthorpe Saints - Not Entering N L 2013 :(
hunch replied to bigred's topic in National League Speedway
Its comforting to know that Scunthorpe were providing a service to Dudley and Stoke by training riders up for you,as your Chairman says in his press release re Max Clegg...he has been trained up on Scunthorpes mini track so should be well suited to our track...so glad we could be of service. -
I have no idea if Claus or Davies would have done better..and frankly neither have you..i would say that when Davies gated he looked ok..when he didnt he didnt look likely to pass to some extent the same with Claus. Im sure the Somerset management made the decision in the absolute best intent..or are you suggesting they deliberately made the wrong choice? Gate positions were critical and someone had to go off three.my bet is that the riders discussed it and Hally was deemed the best option as a pass would be needed. Pretty sure Richard was on his own bike..certainly his colours anyway If Hally had made the pass would you be saying we should have had our own rider in Ht 15..he very nearly did! Anyway...a great final which went to the wire and very fine margins decided it in the end, which is just how it should be.

The rebels fans who did attend the meeting were a credit to your club, after the dissapointment on Sunday thats real commitment to travel back up..noisy bunch too which all added to a great atmosphere. Both clubs should be very proud of the way last nights meeting played out...shame someone had to lose in the end,but as a long time Scunthorpe fan im very happy right now! To those who are knocking the use of Hally in ht 15...he absolutely rode his socks off in that race and was so close...no one rides the track better in those situations so i can understand Someset giving him a go

I dont think the majority of people have a problem with Joe or Dudley in particular...more the way the league is heading. I agree its moving away from its development status..even more so with wealthy clubs setting the pace. Only three or four clubs can afford to run at the levels Dudley can afford..if you can run a sensible league around that then by all means continue down the current path because i dont believe the rest can and clubs will be lost to the league. I actually think the likes of Rye house,Scunthorpe,Buxton and Kings Lynn may be better setting up a mini league at amateur level to develop youngsters for the future..but that will leave a small league above it full of double down premier league reserves in teams meeting each other twice home and away to give a meaningfull list of fixtures..hardly the stuff of progress is it.
-
Dudley can sign who they want within the rules of the sport...a bigger issue exists though in terms of the wellbeing of the league itself. The big clubs can pay whatever they want, and given the level of rider that has been attracted into the league that must be getting close to premier league pay rates..not a new thing, all clubs bar Buxton have given above the standard rate im sure in the past...but never at the level its at now. Dudley fans are rightly proud of their club and want it to do well...good luck to them for that, but also get used to the fact that you will be competing in a four team league..clubs like Buxton and the non stand alones cant live with you at the levels your setting.

Scunthorpe Lose World U21 Meeting
hunch replied to Yorkscorp's topic in International World of Speedway
Im completely with you on this, its absolutely shocking that a meeting that happened weeks ago still hasnt been updated on the website, how are fans supposed to make travel arangements etc As for the track,i agree its awfull i just dont understand how the riders manage to produce some of the best racing the PL has to offer week in week out on that surface But finally and most importantly.. when is a crowd officially classed as 'big'?, Rangers FC get big crowds but are insolvent, so is a crowd of 2000 when you need 2500 to pay the bills 'bigger' than 400 when you need 300 to pay the bills?...just interested. -
Scunthorpe Lose World U21 Meeting
hunch replied to Yorkscorp's topic in International World of Speedway
Nothing major as i understand it,the main problem was that the work required for this one meeting would have made the changeover to stock cars far more demanding and time consuming. Lots of suggestions were made and compromises proposed but the man at the FIM wanted it his way or no way. Its a shame really, one of the finest and safest tracks in the country would have produced a great meeting.
