Bydgoszcz Gp Saturday 20th April
OGT replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Last night's meeting was a fine advert for speedway in its purest form. No daft rules, no silliness, just the world's top riders (and Krzysztof Kasprzak ) battling wheel to wheel and elbow to elbow. Utterly compelling entertainment. -
Anyone disillusioned with speedway should really watch the reruns of last night's meeting, especially Tai's heroics. As Bluepanther says, his performance was a breath of fresh air. Long may it continue.

Darcy Showing What A Pro He Is Again
OGT replied to speedibee's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Recycle, recycle, recycle. For the record, if I were one of the trio's Polish sponsors, I'd be pretty miffed by these recent events, if I were one of their British sponsors, I probably wouldn't have known it had happened unless I came on here. Lots of riders of old were big drinkers, or could on occasion, put a few away, it was well known and legendary to most supporters, mainly because many were in the stadium bar joining in with them, but the key thing back then was that it wasn't in the media and it wasn't something that was brought to the attention of junior supporters. The difference these days, is that the media world has grown out of all proportion in comparison, so sportsman and celebs need to be a bit more careful, although maybe more so in Poland. If the incident had occured in a bar in a city such as Birmingham, there'd only be a slight chance of any of them being recognised anyway. -

Some of the posts on here have made me that angry, I could punch a Police horse. -

People have been complaing about the guest system for 50 years or more and it's still here. That should tell you that there's no viable alternative. My advice is get used to it.

Newcastle Speedway - Thank You!

Well done Newc, gotta look after the old uns this time of year.............. -
I'd replace Pearson/Tatum with Jack Burnacle and James Whitham. That would be interesting................

As a fan of MotoGP, BSB and WSB, I had no problem with Eurosport covering SGP, in fact I'm over the moon. I too thought the coverage was decent enough and the HD quality was great. As has been said, the quality of the racing wasn't exceptional, but there were some cracking heats to warm the cockles. Bit depressing though looking at the weather in NZ when ours is so cr4p at the mo!!

Very impressed with young Mr Woffinden, I must say, more please.

How To Make Speedway More Appealing To Younger Fans?
OGT replied to speedwayadict's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Have to agree, titanium turbos all round, that's what I say. -
15 competitive heats over 13 everytime for me. If clubs want to run junior matches as a 2nd half, like Brum and other clubs did in 2007-8, then great.

Speedway is an extreme sport. Kids like extreme sports. So market it as such. -
You're right, there are loads of stories of riders complaining that they're bikes were crap, giving them to tuners/mechanics to fettle and all they'd do was polish the cases, then when they got them back, they'd be a different rider.
-
I'm sure that someone from Birmingham could help any prospective promotion with noise readings/advice.
-
Seeing as he cost the club £18/24 million then I'd say that they'd be wise to ask for a transfer fee, yes.
-
Actually it wasn't that good, they're still using rider replacement for Seth Armstrong.
-
I think you typed that in a temper, mate!! Bloody typical, off nightshift for the first time in weeks and the EL home fixtures have finished!! And now one of the teams in tonight's meaningless challenge is using the bane of modern speedway, the dreaded RR. Mmm, Emmerdale looks good tonight.

Probably not I'd say.

Weymouth Vs. Tamworth Saxons
OGT replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in National League Speedway
Sandback refers to the Tamworth pig, a rare breed with, well, a sandy coloured back. -
Dudley V Isle Of Wight (at Birmingham) (nl)
OGT replied to rhidassa's topic in National League Speedway
Looking at the IOW team, I reckon only 4 of them have ridden Perry Barr before whereas all of the Heathens have, so it shouldn't really be a problem, IMO. -
If the rules are so wrong, change 'em. But as there are so many promoters willing to take a chance on young Aussie talent, I guess that will never happen. They're the only people who can do anything about it either way.

In 1972, the then Brummies speedway rider and motorcycle all-rounder, Arthur Browning, performed the off road stunts for a classic Milk Tray advert, "......and all because the lady loves.......". I've tried for ages to find the ad on the net, but as yet to no avail, anyone out there have anything? Arthur is quoted (though with the odd word deleted for the sake of a family forum such as this ) that he filmed it in one take as he downright refused to do it again.

Remember Joe's terrible crash at Bordesley, still the worst crash I've seen at a meeting. As I recall he clipped Reg Wilson's back wheel and was flipped up into the air a fair old way, landing awkwardly on his back. A think a lot of people were relieved that it wasn't worse that it was, obviously though still a big big shame that the poor guy ended up paralysed.
