  1. Bloody Tivo box failed to pick up the series record so had to make do with the highlights, but still enjoyed it nevertheless. Well chuffed for Smoli, such a nice bloke. I actually thought his ride in the final was flippin' fantastic. Many riders would have been content to sit there at the back, but Martin was giving it everything and was there when it mattered and the gap opened up. Good move. Glad I never watched it live, if only for health reasons!!
  2. Just a point about Aston Villa's "dwindling" attendances. They currently have the 9th highest average home gate at 36,230, which considering how bad their home performances and results have been (for quite a while now) is pretty good. I can't really explain why Blues' attendances are so low though.
  3. The latter is nearer the mark than the former. I actually feel for Phillips, he has bought into a sport that it seems few people in the city are interested in supporting. Enthusiastic team management and a plethora of sponsorship deals can only paper over the cracks for so long. Fans are the life blood of any club and if you can't get enough through the turnstiles then you're in trouble. The chickens will eventually come home to roost. I really hope that Brum can turn the corner with this team, but I fear it will take a miracle for that to happen.
  4. Oi, don't forget middle class and working class pensioners!!
  5. When you say "often", what sort of percentage would you say? Turn the clock back to a time before student fees and I would maybe agree slightly with your view, but nowadays when many students are racking up debts of almost 30k before they've even taken living expenses into account, I'd say you're way off the mark. In fact, many students from less well off backgrounds, struggle less when grants and bursaries are taken into account.
  6. Fondest memories of Cov are Andy Grahame becoming British Champion in 82 and Zdenek Kudrna beating Ole Olsen in 1980.
  7. Why don't you just clear off and join a football forum? Message to the mods on here, why do you allow this poster to consistently stick the knife into Birmingham Speedway?
  8. The problem is, will enough say they'll watch a cheaper team?
  9. Don't worry, we'll find out................ http://cdn0.cosmosmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/20080314_sherlock_holmes.jpg
  10. Meanwhile, as speedway gently meanders into the 21st Century, in a far flung corner of old England, someone is weighing a speedway bike to determine a definitive answer to post #1. Hopefully the result will be in Kgs.
  11. I'm really surprised that "agenda" posts are allowed on here.
  12. Yep, Selco on board too. http://www.birminghambrummies.co/news.php?extend.1856
  13. If Brum are stretching this out in the hope of maximising publicity then he better be worth the wait. But for a 5 point rider, it's asking a lot.
  14. Sounds feasible. I'd have thought that if the problem was cost then Covatti would have been the cheap option.
  15. TBH I really can't think of anything else the promotion could do to increase attendances, I'd say everything has been tried by now with only short term success to show for it. I don't think the Birmingham public are that interested in speedway, the 21 year gap was just too damaging to the supporter base and now that some hardcore fans are walking you do wonder what the future holds for the club. Meanwhile, a stone's throw away, a football club that's been playing some of the most awful football in recent memory (I know, I've been) is boasting the 8th highest attendances in the Premier league. So it's not as if people won't come out of the house, is it?
  16. I thought that kids had to be accompanied by an adult to get in for a quid, in which if they were to come as a gang they'd need a gangster to take them in and where would you find one of them in Perry Barr?
