  1. I'm just hoping the Rebels come through this unscathed for tomorrow night against Glasgow. I was at the carnage at the OTA when we ended up with 4 riders. It took BWD 3 attempts to break his collar bone and he has been missed.
  2. So sad to hear that our ex Captain (of the Rebels) has had his richly deserved world title cruelly taken away in a racing accident. Hopefully he can come back from his injuries fully and claim his prize next year. Get better soon Jason.
  3. As a regular to the OTA and there on Friday I feel for all involved. There were only 2 turnstiles open and there was the biggest queue along Emil way. But nobody could ever foresee the carnage that was heat one. Poor old BWD. 3 attempts to break his collar bone! The time it takes to replace a section of air fence is significant too. I don't know what the solution is. Start earlier and you deny those travelling after work to get there. I am glad the second leg is a victim of the weather. It will give the boys time to re-group and get Jake back. Just one of those things that I have never seen in 55 years of watching speedway.
  4. Agree. Innocuous looking tumble. He did not really high side the bike but was catapulted on to his front. You cannot argue with the damage done though and I wish him a full recovery. Come to think of it Darcy's was not that serious looking either unlike Lee Richardson's that you knew was bad from the outset.
  5. Out of the UK for this one. Anyone got a stream source that I can watch?
  6. Shocking omission to leave Booey out of the obituaries. The BBC has hit the rocks with sport but in the old days this was called "Sports Review of the Year", and had more substance, not the back slapping excuse we get now.
  7. I saw Jimmy ride for several years in the 60's. Never heat leader class but could win races on his day. I met him twice at WSRA dinners and a true gent. Glad everyone on here feels the same. RIP Jimmy.
  8. What engine was Harris using? Doesn't really matter because no engine is going to get him going as fast as the rest of the field, but just curious.
  9. Could we not get Chris Harris a dispensation to use 2 engines in one bike next year so that we get 4 man races? I don't know what that engine was but it didn't get him going any quicker.
  10. Not after his display at the end of the Aussie GP. Cap on backwards and going to die of thirst before the end of the national anthem. Bit of growing up still to do to get to the Briggs/Mauger status yet.
  11. Had a great night at the OTA. Cookie was, as I suspected, on a different planet. Rather have him in the GP next year in place of Harris! Would do him good. Can't see Edinburgh hanging on to him next year though without offloading half the team. Poor decision on Charles though. Could cost us the cup.
  12. The way Cookie went round Belle Vue yesterday nobody will live with him tonight. Josh has to improve on last night too. Starkey could hold the key.
  13. As a neutral I thought it was a good night. I will be at the OTA tonight and I can't see anyone living with Cookie if he keeps going like this.
  14. Cookie's going to be a busy lad. 2 legs of the play offs and 2 legs of the PL KO Cup final in 5 days. Poole to Edinburgh's a long way! I'll be a the OTA tomorrow to see what happens.
  15. It seems an amazing coincidence to me that Leigh had that ride aginst Edinburgh and got sacked 4 days later. Perhaps we should ask Garry. I personally think there is no "I" in team and he should have taken the long view. Nothing against the guy but team riding in 3rd and 4th is not going to win matches.
  16. I wish Leigh all the best in whatever the future may hold for him, BUT! He would not let Brady Kurtz past to chase Cookie and Sedgeman in heat one of the Edinburgh match. That to me spelt the beginning of the end for the Rebels that night and maybe had something to do with Garry's difficult ,but correct decision.
  17. Why oh why do we have to exclude a rider when a race gets stopped? First bench bunching so far as I know is only an accepted disregarding of the rule. If a genuine racing incident happens why does someone have to be wholly to blame by getting excluded/ Are there never any 50/50's? If there are then half the time statistically the wrong rider gets excluded. Jim Lawrence did the right thing but by what rule?
  18. Well said Philip! 3 points of contact are better than 2 but one, your backside is stupid!
  19. I think it has to do with riding styles too. The old foot forward Barry Briggs would not have been knocked off by Doyly. There is a lot more balance than 3 points of contact as there used to be. If he did come off there was no soft landing so staying on was all important.
  20. I too have watched speedway for 50 years. I can't remember seeing so many bale outs in the days before air fences. Or am I a cynic? Yes people were knocked off or fell off but that was racing. Without getting into the Harris/Doyle thing am I the only one thinking like this?
  21. Never worked out why Charlie Monk never reached a world final, with all his talent. I know why the other big gun north of the border didn't and that was a little incident at Meadowbank. He was never confident after that of taking the top riders on in case he fell off again.
  22. 'Fraid you are right Sir Humphrey about the pecking order and hence the lack of financial clout.
  23. Unfortunately you are largely right. Commercialism is here to stay and we will have to lump it. it is unfortunate that the stadiums to hold 40k+ spectators do not have a track there permanently. We certainly missed a trick with the new Wembley and the Olympic Stadium in 2012. Let us hope that Prague and Cardiff do not let us down.
