  1. 8 point swing there from Ellis.. Form a 1-5 to a 5-1 in the blink of an eye...
  2. Not quite as good as the meeting from Torun yesterday is it? In fact the only similarity appears to be that the camera man is filming from somewhere in Poland...
  3. The 2nd Tier should have two British U21 riders per team ring fenced for 3 rides a night each... And then move up organically as they progress, (or not as the case may be).. The Poles reap what they saw in this regard.....
  4. Since I returned to watching Speedway in 1988, there has been Screen, Havelock, Louis, Loram, Woffy, Lambert and Bewley that I have seen their whole career unfold, with all of them clearly being of a much higher standard than their contemporaries at a similar age.. You do have a certain "glide path" it seems which suggests you really need to be a top league HL within three or four years to continue your progress to the top, with a No1 berth five or six years in being the target.. If your not in GP's seven or eight years or so into your career then your level is pretty much set.. Not many do a "Jason Doyle" and almost overnight, it appeared, go from reserve to World Class... Looking at how many Poles, (and other Eastern Europeans), Swedes and Danes are coming through at U24 level, the UK lads have some serious challenges on to break through to the higher levels..
  5. I would make 'em do at least an hour on the turnstiles too... Do that and then they can have two opinions from a pre'prepared designated list of topics about the club.. (But no more than two)..
  6. No disrespect meant (as Simon is now officially an Aces legend after the play off final), but the current crop will be more Simon Lambert, than Robert Lambert.. Good for filling spaces in teams in the UK (much needed too), but not going to break into the world level.. Interesting to see both Rowe and Kemp are "improving" in Poland in that ultra professional and pressurised environment. Definitely the place for them to stay, do the "hard yards" and hopefully reap the rewards in a few years.. Its the first time in a long while that we havent had a "talent" emerge at 16 or so, that you could clearly say is destined for the top level.. Maybe a few U24 test matches against the emerging Swedes and Danes would be worth doing..? Some decent talent on display I would suggest which would generate decent crowds at fhe right tracks.. We could take Poland on at Monmore, Plymouth and Buxton..
  7. And they are the ones sny business should "listen" to... If you are there then 30 races for 30 quid is VFM to you as you must be interested in all those 30 races.. The majority of fans at most tracks I would say would not see it as VFM as they simply will have no interest in standing around for circa 3 hours watching something that they are only interested in half of what's on offer.. The predictions on here of a poor crowd was hardly "mystical" was it? Common sense dictated that this would be the outcome... Presume Berwick effectively "closed down" due to all the street parties that day?
  8. Well, many of us on here often complain that those who run it never try anything new or radical... Be interesting to see if it works.... If it does, they may do more of it..
  9. I think you will find Daniel that in UK Speedways "echo chamber" it really will never, ever be their fault.. And they will also have plenty of "hangers on" to agree with them, which then allows them to feel that they are "doing something right", so they carry on with the same failing plan.. Those "hangers on" see at close quarter "how hard they work", so feel no criticism is allowed due to this... "Working Hard" and "Working Successfully" are though two seperate things..
  10. Unfortunately many of those involved within the "echo chamber" of UK Speedway are well meaning amateurs, who are miles out of their depth skill set wise for the roles they take on.. And as there often isn't a "Gold Standard" operationally to benchmark yourself, and aspire to be, the general malaise continues.. "We are doing our best" really isn't an answer when things go wrong. In fact, it questions your capability even further, as, if "doing my best" has put me in the predicament I find myself in then I am probably not the person to solve the issue, and should either step aside and let someone have a go, or go and seek help from those better qualified than me, (with the correct skill set ), to support me in sorting the problem out.. I cannot take UK Speedway seriously from a team angle, but I know some still do, so I would imagine that if "my team" hadn't won for nearly a year then I would be just a tad peed off and expect something a bit better from those running it, and competing for it.. I certainly wouldnt be too pleased though to be told that paying my money doesnt entitle me to complain.. They must have too many fans so want to lose a few hundred by alienating them I presume.. And, to be fair, the sport as a whole has done a great job of that over the past 2 decades or so..
  11. 100%.. To make it work though, and evenly spread out the "big hitters", a maximum average for the top 2 or 3 should have happened.. Every team with "money" are always going to build "top down" with their first two riders being their top two HL's.. They cover up to 8 races, not including any TS rides, so having a potential race winner 8/15 times (with HT 13 and 15 potentially being a 10-2 in your favour), is the common sense decision and you would always go with two top HL's if you can afford them.. Even more so in a weakened league.. The idea is good, the delivery of it not so...
  12. I think maybe it was written to encourage some of the responses..? Surely even the most myopic person sitting within the Speedway Bubble, wouldnt fail to see the main reason for the crowd level, given it was so glaringly obvious... Got a fair few responses.... Anyone mentioned yet that a GP at Wembley, with its 20 odd thousand attendance, would be a major boost for the sport?
  13. Indeed... It is a shame that the actual product (which is a good as at anytime I have watched it), is so undermined by such nonsense as having 4 out of 10 riders not there, (in this instance)... It wont change though sadly, any time soon...
  14. Having only 10, out of the 14 riders who should have been there riding, was never going to stimulate much interest.. Add in the score from the first leg and an off night for BV and the crowd was always going to be lower than usual.. Bottom line is of course that if the Promoter's themselves dont see their competition's relevant enough to have their own riders there, then the fans understandably can feel the same, and be "elsewhere" too...
  15. Why did he organise to run a meeting with two of his own team missing...? I think that alone answers your question..
  16. One of them had trouble signing on here for a few days as they had forgotten their password.. .......
  17. Maybe with it being an "off night" for the Aces it was agreed to let them use Rew just to get the meeting on.. Meaning they can then continue the cup rounds and get it out of the way... All in the interests of Speedway obviously...
  18. And you get a massive free horse as well it appears...
  19. Maybe not running meetings when so many riders are missing might be "in the best interests of the sport"...
  20. And maybe those who run the sport could stop planning in fixtures when the global FIM calendar clearly states that their meetings are taking place.. When they organise meetings on those dates, inevitably using RR and Guests, then it sends out two messages.. One being that even the promoters dont take their own competitions seriously.. And two, the over riding priority of the sport in the UK is simply to provide riders with as much chance to earn as much money as they can, regardless of impact to its credibility.. The only other sports I can think off that have their competitors elsewhere when clubs compete is RU and Cricket, however, they run large squads, rather than share employees, and have large sponsorship to afford those squards.. So much of UK Speedeay's issues are "self inflicted" which is baffling given so many of them could so easily be avoided with just a bit of planning, organisation, discipline and leadership.. .
  21. Not sure why he isnt in the top league in Poland.. Much better than several Poles, and non Poles, who are.. Always been a bit of box office about this lad.. Love watching him ride...
  22. Jeremy Vine "Which World Famous South Coast team are known as the "Manchester United of Speedway?".. Contestant: "Ivan Mauger"...
  23. Speedway was mentioned on The Chase... (They got the answer wrong).. Speedway was mentioned on Tipping Point... (They got the answer wrong)... Speedway was mentioned on Fifteen to One... (They got the answer wrong).. Speedway was mentioned on Eggheads.. (They got the etc etc etc..)
