Sheffield vs. Belle Vue Grand Final 2nd Leg 13/10/22
mikebv replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
If the Tigers gate like they did last night they will run out easy winners.. If you get out gated, you dont pass at Owlerton like you can at the NSS.. The Aces will need 30 from the top 3 I would think.. -
And has a 12 point average there...

Isnt the loan fee based on a % of the riders average? I think it used to be...

To be honest I would think Sheffield should feel a little bit annoyed at how many points they lost from winning positions... They seemed to gate in a fair few races and led a good many heats coming out of turn two... Made for some great racing though watching the Aces come from the back, particularly flying around turns 3 and 4... Lambert passing two at once has fast become a trademark.. -

What utter nonsense... No way will Zmarzlik be replacing Wright... It will be Dan Bewley replacing Etheridge... Three letter first names you see... Dan/Jye... All in the rules... All in the rules... -

Fantastic nights racing... Truly World Class Heat 13... And 15 was going to be a cracker too. Polish racing but in the UK... Tough, everything on the line Speedway, with massive trust and respect between the riders... Breathtaking racing at times.. And a perfect set up for Thursday I would suggest... Big crowd, great racing, thrills and spills, and brilliant atmosphere.... When Speedway is done this well it has few peers... Hopefully more of the same on Thursday.. Best wishes to the two injured Aces.. Could they get Dan Bewley for Thursday as a replacement..? Hope Old Bob tuned in.... -

I get some of the points but .. FTG has always been around since I started 50 odd years ago with PC at Hyde Rd (when he trapped), often a half straight ahead of a couple second strings and 2 point reserves... You still invariably got that "moment" though which took your breath away when he failed to make a start.. And tonight you will hopefully get at least one "moment" the same.. No out of their depth reserves and second strings are bona fide 2nd Division HL's nowadays.. Personally for me, the racing has never been better at tracks like the NSS, Peterborough, Redcar and Glasgow, and the overall standard from No1 to No7 has never been so high.. Tune in tonight Bob and I am sure you wont be disappointed, I am there with my lad, and to be honest the result is secondary to the racing for me.. And the NSS seldom let's you down on that score... Fair weather... Big Crowd.. Two World Class GP stars.. And a support cast made up of seasoned internationals and very decent riders... What's not to like? -

Weather set fair... Looks like a very good crowd expected looking at the ticket sales.. Let's hope for a great night's racing... -

The Mickey Mouse nature it often appears to be ran in, 100% impacts the many thousands of fans who will still turn up to watch "proper Speedway" both here and overseas each season.. Yet wont travel even a few miles regularly to watch their local team... And it would certainly, I would suggest, impact any potential "large" sponsors coming into the sport given their name will be linked publicly to a "brand" that often looks amateurish in its self regulation and process management.. It is interesting to see the way riders at the higher levels, and national teams, seem to get backing from bigger companies yet the league itself doesnt seem to have any company interested... Many of the issues are down to a lack of "serious money" in the sport in the UK. Unfortunately when everything looks so contrived at times, you wont ever get that investment into it.. -
But the plan should last five years... Due to the fact it has been planned to cover five years... Hence... The Name... All five year plans in business have several milestones in them to ensure they remain on track to meet their ultimate aim... Disbanding some of a five year the plan in Year One, then removing it completely in Year Two, could be seen as "a bit radical"... Todays U23 performance shows just how important an effective development system for young riders is for the growth of the sport... A huge gap still exists from the likes of the Poles and the Danes... Going back to filling reserve slots with 4.5 point journeymen foreigners isnt going to help sort that...

Just by reading many of the comments in this thread shows how and why this sport isn't ever taken seriously... Two teams have "cheated" by replacing riders.... One due to a long term injury to their No1 rider... And the other, due to wanting to replace an underperforming rider with someone they felt could improve their team.. Yet Both used the average system that the sport so slavishly follows, and both, according to the averages, brought in lower ranked riders than the ones they were replacing... Two clubs doing nothing other than what clubs would do in "proper team sports", in their respective circumstances... But no. In Speedway... That's "cheating"... -

Fair play for them giving it a go... Maybe, similar to Peterborough and Kings Lynn, having one owner with two clubs will help with costs and help subsidise each other. .? Running off a Saturday night is a big risk though I would suggest... As. Even with Doyle they struggled to make Thursdays pay, hence they dropped.. Good luck to them though. Let's hope the team averages allow them to build a competitive team, which engages the crowd. .. -
Indeed... Those five years flew by didn't they? Edit: In the last 20 years or so we have had circa a century worth of five year plans...

Circa 2/3rd tickets in the Grandstand sold... Behind the tapes the ones mainly left... Would imagine a "full house" would be a distinct possibility. . Have all the Sheffield fans attending booked their Uber? As it's the final they might need a seven seater... -
With riders like Ulrich you always do have a feeling that this might be the first of at least a couple of retirements.... He certainly has seen the inside of too many hospitals, but he also certainly entertained the fans far more than most with his all action riding style, and never give up attitude... Hope he finds whatever he does in retirement fulfilling and he enjoys it....

Bradford was for me, similar to Coventry... Two tracks with a shape that should have lent itself to great racing, but, for some reason, you often came away from both extremely underwhelmed... Yet, on the odd occasion, you got to see some cracking racing at both... Just, not enough times...

I think "Wilky" might be the one with the tractor driver . If it isn't, it definitely could have happened somewhere..... My first hero as a 3 year old kid... My 2nd a couple of years later, (and still the best exponent of racing a bike from the back, and therefore most exciting rider that I have ever watched).... PC... And lucky enough to get to watch him for over a decade every week at one of the greatest tracks that ever existed.. Would love to see a PC in his pomp today around the NSS... Book will be ordered... Edit: As a side note. There are plenty of reasons as to why crowds dropped off hugely from the mid 80's, however PC becoming "just ok" and therefore not blitzing the rest of the world regularly on TV during the summer on WOS, in a style that was truly "box office" was, for me, a large contributory factor... He was truly a "household name" in the mid 70's to early 80's... You could watch him just after 3pm on a Saturday afternoon and then watch him in the flesh just a few hours later.. Sadly, as "gate and go" took over on slicker tracks, so did lots of the excitement... As I say.. Box Office..

As we always say... The rose tinted specs were coloured in by the atmosphere of being in big partisan crowds, which meant the racing often became "great" when you won.. The reality was something very different on many occasions.. A shame those who run the sport havent got the capability required to deliver big partisan crowds today.... As the racing deserves more watching...

I can see the Aces getting at least 40 at Sheffield... The top three getting 28-30 from their 14 rides... Wright, Brennan, Etheridge and Blodorn will then need to get 10 to 12 from their 16 races.. Blodorn at Owlerton will be better than he would be at Wolves I would say, and could be a good card to play.. -
To be fair, the racing at places like the NSS, Peterboro', and at World Class level, is as least as good, and probably better, than what I used to watch in the 70's 80's and 90's.. Zmarzlik, Bewley, Laguta, Woffinden, Lambert, Janowski, Sayfutdinov, Lindgren, Doyle, Madsen, et al, all serve up some spectacular stuff which is more than on par with what I used to watch even in the halcyon days of the sport... The current machinery works fine if the track design matches in...
