Wolverhampton v Peterborough 27/06/22
Tommy Sweetman replied to scoobydoo's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The really heavy rain has now passed through, looking at the radar looks dry for the rest of the day.Should give the track staff time to get the surface right hopefully. -
Newcastle now closed !!!

And the late Gary Peterson, think Wolves "stole" him from the Diamonds when Mike Parker was running both ventures. -

I'll think you'll find Phil, the Doc was there when the track was at it's best in the 80s/90s early 00,s and it then varied in length during that time between 329 yards and 306 yards. The racing or the track, hasn't been anywhere near as good since it changed to the smaller shape of 288 yards. But I do admit, the present track prep leaves a lot to be desired. -

Now Sheffield have released Stefan Nielson with Jake Allen, wonder if he may be a decent bet for Wolves so that Kemp can concentrate on the Championship with Poole.Remember Nielson having a few good meetings against us when he rode for Swindon. No idea if he fits in with the averages though. -

Not for the first time Adams has snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his bizarre selections in heat 15. But more worrying is where Drew Kemp goes from here, his Monmore form is OK,but on his travels hardly looks like picking up a point. -

Not sure if tractor work is allowed, but there are 14 races,so hard to get things moving. -

Blame Ladbrokes, greyhounds don't finish until 6 o,clock,so can't do any work on the track. No rain today, but considerable downpours from Saturday night onwards until Sunday lunchtime. Then further drizzle, and no sun or wind today either.Without proper work on the track, probably the right decision by the riders, who didn't look very happy doing the track walk prior to the start of the meeting. -

When has Adams ever listened to anyone, not sure even CVS has much say in team building. -
Nope.Wont stop the moaners going on about shape and size.Agree track prep is important, but for most of em Monmore will never lose the tag of trick track.
-
In response to all the moaners on here(and blimey there's plenty of em)regarding Monmore. In short,up to the early 80,s the track length was 329yards,and we saw some fantastic racing(especially the Cradley derbies).Since then, there have been various changes to shape and length, and which now presently stands at just 264 metres. The reduction in length was bought about because when Ladbrokes took over the running of the stadium, they were fed up of having to clean away the shale which was thrown onto the dog track.A compromise was reached that the back straight would have a buffer between speedway track and dog track,so that the clean up was only required on the home straight between bends 4 and 1.Tbh,if CVS hadn't agreed to the changes, people like Daniel Smith would have got their wish, and speedway would have disappeared from Wolverhampton all together.......Think I've got most of that right, apologies for anything I may have got wrong.

Tongue in cheek comment,on saying that, regardless of what team Lynn put out still expect a comfortable victory for the Stars. -

What against a 5 man team,because basically that's what Wolves are. -
Light rain falling at the moment(2 miles from Monmore), but should make for a good meeting.
-
Perhaps someone can lend a bike and British passport to PK lol.Back at Monmore for the first time in five years,no doubt can still show the young un,s a thing or two, especially the quickest way through the "Karlsson Corridor "
-
Think he's a Coventry fan, always been anti Wolves.
-
So Wolves open with the first televised meeting on May 2nd against Kings Lynn. What's the betting Shovlar comes with the first comment, aimed with a negative response about Monmore.
-
Yep,agree with that.

Stand in front of the mirror, and take a long hard look at yourself...

Last rider to be announced later this week, surely has to be Becker.

Shouldn't one have been called Broadbank(s) think he served the Robins for about 15 years. -

Didn't release it was such big housing development to the North West of the stadium until I looked on Google Maps.Really hope things turn out well for the Robins fans and speedway returns to the Abbey.Really enjoyed my trips down to Swindon over the top of Birdlip, and it will be a massive loss if the sport loses one of its iconic sides. -
Wolves vs pboro semi final 1
Tommy Sweetman replied to Gasser90's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Even though everyone seems to make Panther's the favourites, and judging by the last couple of meetings that's probably justified, but a couple of factors could easily have reversed those two results.Nicol had a mare at Monmore scoring just the one point from the reserve position, certainly think he will improve on that next Monday. Also the meeting at the Showground, and even though Masters hates the place, his two engine failures cost Wolves at least a point, and the rest of the team thought they were really unlucky to leave empty handed. Perhaps that was part of thinking why CVS said they would have picked Peterborough. -
Neither Bagpuss, just my personal opinion (and a few other Wolves supporters at the time about the American connection). As to who the rider might have been.Well it's common knowledge that either Nicholls or Harris would have a season at Monmore due to their liking of the track, but in truth no one knows if they would have been an upgrade on Nicol.
