  1. Will be nice to see fans like you paul, bring loads of money, might be to drown your sorrows, or if you are ever the optimist, to celebrate. See you in the B&G.
  2. Peter Waite ran for two seasons without any financial sponsorship, the year of the telephone and the year of bthe carpets.
  3. That saves a lengthy reply, well said, it sums it up well. Berwick Rangers do keep on top of the stadium, and are constantly upgrading within the constraints of their budget. The issue for Berwick Rangers is well stated by Tweedsider. Berwick Bandits are lucky to be able to have the use of this stadium, which for speedway gives higher standards than many speedway stadiums, we the fans of speedway benefit from our hosts, Berwick Rangers.
  4. I believe the problem is, the Shielfield Park standards have to be improved to a new standard required by the relevent authorities, this would require a substantial sum of money being spent on an already out of date stadium. Hence taking what needs to be spent against possibility of grants, the idea of a new stadium. The revenue lost to Berwick Rangers from Berwick Bandits would be substantial compared to what they pay for their lease.
  5. You may be right, but there is a determination at Berwick Rangers that it will. So I suppose we will just have to seeb what happens.
  6. Berwick Rangers although they have small crowds, were in profit this year and the previous year. It is a fact thay have had plans drawn up for a new all weather stadium, also Sir Alan Beith is looking for available grants, which there are numerous possibilities. The County Council have placed a valuation o £2 million pounds, it is likely that the council with it's financial restraints wil place it on the market, with the potential for redevelopment. They have also stated the new stadium will not accomodate a speedway track. This however leaves the possibility of Berwick Bandits renting the stadium off the council directly, the problem is the rent, at present Berwick Speedway Supporters Club get an unusually low rent agreement, that would be probably be re-negotiated the going rate for rental is 1/10th of the valuation of the property. Luckily it should take a few years before it happens, but I for one believe it will happen. It is not the council, but Berwick Rangers themselves that want to build a new stadium. Releasing Shielfield Park for the possibility of redevelopment.
  7. Plenty of shale on the track, it's just on the wrong parts of the track
  8. Bit late with that prediction me old matey, or in your case young matey. note mine and bandits 59 posts, but great minds think alike
  9. Glad to se you agree with Bandits 59 & myself.
  10. Adrians doing fine, was out to see him at the Golden Helmet. hand and leg still playing up a bit, but he is one hell of fighter. Never drops his Jack Daniels though. As said he is making Race Suits ( no kevlar in modern race suits, they burn your arse). So if you want to buy a new race suit for a rider, I can highly reccomend the quality and the price. He is also managing several Czech riders If we have 7 points would go with Vaclav Millic, serious youngster for the future, nothing against Kozza mind, also he would become an asset.
  11. Don't disagree, however costs will dictate, Tressarrieu won't come cheap, Wethers like Grieves will cut his cloth accordingly.
  12. Not sure mate with wage cuts:- Might look like this. 1. Ashworth 2. Bellego 3. Aspergren 4. Wethers 5.Smith 6. Edberg 7. Barrett.
  13. No loyalty when it comes to speedway, they are self employed riders, who like anyone will look after their best interests. Wish Seb all the good luck for what ever he decides is best for his future.
  14. Well that foofed that team,, perhaps fit in young Czech Vaclav Milic, 7 point ave
  15. Probably, but I for one would welcome him up here at Berwick, spent half of last season guesting for us.
  16. Bought by swindon, but available to a PL club on a double up facility
  17. Wahat about this line up:- 1. Ashworth 8.84 2. Egberg 4.36 3. Morris 8.00 4. Aspergren 6.40 5. Alden 7.58 6. Barrett 3.75 7. Brandford 3.00 0.57 spare
  18. Nick Barrett home:- Lecester 7+ 1 PL Plymouth 6+2 PL Newcastle 5 PL Ipswich 3+1 PL Glasgow 8+2 PCT Redcar 8+2 PCT Rye House 8+1 PCT Away:- Somerset 3+1 PL Sheffield 1 PL Glasgow 7+1 PL Plymouth 0 PL Glasgow 12+1 PCT Workington PL Rye house PCT Not sure how we stand with PCT, the old rule for assets was 12 meetings in a recognised competition. Averages rule was 4 home & 4 away. An amendment was made for 2012, hence the mix up over Bellego
  19. My gut feeling is that Egberg & Barrett will be our reserves, both assets, young Dyer is however will be a good catch for any team.
  20. Someone actually wants King Back, when you have Egberg or Dyer and Barret to choose from at reserve ?????
  21. Just a few figures to bandy around, when attracting new blood tom speedway. 1. By 2015, 60% of Berwicks population will be over 50, this figure also applies to the Eastern Scottish Borders. 2. Only 11% of the population are below the age of 20 yrs. A falling youth population, coupled with a growing retirement location, does not leave great scope for attracting significant numbers of younger fans. The predominance of remaining youths are in low paid generally low quality jobs, ( eg super market jobs), students that are here at the weekend have little spare cash, most of it expended on tuition fees. At a guess I would say the vast majority of fans are in the older age groups, so what ever is suggested to attract the fewer and fewer youngsters to the sport will need to be damned good. The music presentation at present, even for an old dinasaur like myself is out of date and out moded, but are we their to listen to music, however something a little more rebel rousing would be an improvement. Centre green presentation is out dated and lack lustered, the centre green announcer during Peter Waits era was Alan Gladstone, who in my humble opinion was massively better than we get at present, so the idea of a young Dj, perhaps from one of the night clubs is a good idea. Generally a bit more raz a mataz in the introduction, some start tarts, warm up laps to get the crowd in the mood (personally don't like them, but others do). Perhaps invite the local bike clubs to bring out the riders in the larger events or cup matches. For me some strippers or pole dancers on the centre green.
  22. Please.NO NO NO. The entertainment value seems to be the big problem, don't dilute it even further.
  23. What opposition, Jawa have packed up, so only GM left, as far as engines are concerned. When an engine is tuned, it is rarely with GM parts, but expensive replacements. If riders were made to run on standard production engines, with limited tuning potential, it would massively reduce costs.
  24. None of the large motor cycle companies are going to develop a speedway engine, nothing in it for them, far to specialised, there are no road versions of speedway bikes for the companies to profit from. As far as the Premier league is concerned, a standardised engine with a limited tuning potential would be a benefit, it would certainly cut the costs to riders. PL could be run on club racing lines, all riding similar equipment, with the best rider that wins. This would then allow the clubs to get the riders point money down to a sensible level, for instance No1 £60 per point, No 3&5 £50, No 2&4 £40 and No 6&7 £30.
  25. Scott, you are missing the point as usual, almost. to the point of paranoia, all critisism is useful, good or bad. I find the Berwick website odd to use, it is not always up to date, that does not decry the person who set the site up voluntarily I presume, or the updater, again a volunteer I presume. It is a statement of critisism, that it is not an easy site to get around. Am I picking on the volunteers, of course not.
