  1. I'm told by a regular that Lambert wasn't flavour of the month from a few weeks earlier when he scored a 21 point max, and in an interview said words to the effect that there wouldn't have been a match if he hadn't been there. Yesterday, he wasn't involved in any exciting racing, just the controversy - aided, as mentioned by other posters, a hopeless ref. Not heat 13, but previously when he didn't bother to turn going into the first bend and caused a crash, which could not be described as first bend bunching. Turnbull failed to impose any authority - and Heeps wasn't the only one who moved at the tapes. A Stoke rider actually touched them - ironically in the heat where both visitors subsequently fell and Mildenhall scored a 5-0. How can a referee not see movement at the start, and also not do anything about it?
  2. There were a number of passes, and the two by Daniel Halsey (one on the final bend of the last heat) were genuine, first class overtakes, which would not have been out of place in a GP. The track offered different racing lines from the first heat to the last.
  3. A fair assessment. Turnbull copped-out when Lambert was in B/W and simply went straight at the first bend - he should have been excluded for that. At the time of the incident I was over by the second bend and didn't hear any shouts of "cheat" - there were fans shouting at Lambert, but he didn't help matters by gesturing to the crowd (not necessarily rude gestures, but you could see he wanted to play to the gallery). As soon as he got back to the pits things kicked-off - at the pit gate and then again in the corner where he was based: right next to the spectators.
  4. Spot on - went to Mildenhall for the first time in many years and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Good atmosphere, great racing and lots of incident too. Not very impressed by Lambert - he clearly enjoys being a big fish in a small pond. Despite being unbeatable, he failed to team ride when it was needed - his only contrbution to helping his team mate was going straight at the first bend, which Turnbull should have excluded him for. OK, he looked over his shoulder for Pickard in 11 and Sarjeant in 15, but both times then abandoned them as he rode into the distance, and both times Daniel Halsey produced great passes to rescue vital points for the home team. Halsey's last bend pass of Sarjeant in Heat 15 was genuine quality - if it had been Ward against Bjerre in the play-offs Shouty Pearson would have given himself a hernia. Other bits worth a mention: Hargreaves and Aaron Baseby passing Isherwood in Heat 4 - and Isherwood then getting in such a tangle that he lurched off the track and across the centre green. Bizarre falls for Tony Atkin in each of his first two rides - he didn't look at all comfortable on his bike, let alone on track. Great team riding between the Baseby Bros. in heat 8 - very controlled and looking for each other all the way. A well-measured pass by Baseby on Isherwood in Heat 12 after being outgated, and on his own following Jacobs' exclusion. OK, so Isherwood didn't trouble the scorers, but Baseby could easily have panicked - instead he rode sensibly and picked off his opponent - and also gave Sarjeant a scare on the last lap! Finally - had to giggle at the programme listing the Stoke #4 as "Tommy Atkins", and then Kevin Long after Atkin's second fall saying he was in the wars. Tommy Atkins, your country needs you! lol Well done to all.
  5. Those are not their final Green Sheets though ...
  6. Cameron Heeps has confirmed in the local rags* today (Thursday, 15 September) that he plans to ride for the Witches in 2012 "I'm as keen as mustard to ride for the Witches, and hopefully also continue for Mildenhall in a doubling-up capacity. I'm loving it over here and riding in the british league has always been my dream since I started riding bikes at the age of four. I'm having so much fun, and Mildenhall officials Chris Louis and Michael Lee have made sure that everything around me is relaxed. To be honest, I've done much better than I've expected." Also, Heeps is expecting to ride in the 16-Lapper at Foxhall on 27 October - his 16th birthday * East Anglian Daily Times and Evening Star (which now appears in the morning!).
  7. No way Topinka! Also, the Witches missed McGowan by at least 5 seasons, and he's not the solution now. Schramm is a great bloke, but there's no improvement in him, so can only be regarded as a solid middle-order rider.
  8. Oh ... flamingo! LOL! Actually, my preferred term is "testiculating", which is "waving your arms around a talking bolleaux"
  9. I've still got no idea what a "flaming gala" is ...
  10. It was the funniest ... until screamer came up with a classic

  12. Best wishes to both Mallett and Kerr. I know that Kerr was "discovered" at a KL Powerslide event - and was proud to get a reserve ride at the ELRC last season. Out of interest, does anyone know which leg and ankle are affected? I'm sure both guys have got more than one each
  13. Ferjan rode a couple of second half heats at Sheffield on Thursday night. beaten by Richie Worrall in the first one. He was probably just trying out machinery, because the track was absolutely bare by then and the times were around 64 seconds. Before anyone from Sheffield pipes-up, yes I realise he would have given a few of the Witches a good race at that pace
  14. That's fast enough - it would make a massively huge difference in F1.
  15. As pointed out by others, not really worth debating, because you are comparing team with individual. What the BSPA has singularly failed to do is make speedway in Britain attractive enough for the best riders in the world to want to ride in the EL. Poorly organised - inconsistent fixture list - inability to complete fixtures before the race-offs - how can a serious professional rider maintain a schedule? Even the Super7even (sic) suffered because the Polish League was more important than the Pairs.
