I struggled with most of that if I'm honest. -
A Sad Anniversary For London Speedway
ImpartialOne replied to Parsloes 1928 nearly's topic in Years Gone By
Well, personally, I would say hopefully not too far, but I know what you meant. Maybe the best hope now would be the Olympic site once 2012 is done and dusted but admittedly that's still a very long shot. Is anything being actively done to seek out a new venue in London, contacting the mayor of London or setting up a poll or petition to see how many people would welcome the sport back in the capital? -

Are you on medication Mr. Nearly (answers a question)? One more thing... What inferior GP product is this World Championship a copy of? -

I still think on his day Andersen is a class act and I think the GPs are poorer without him. He has tended to ride injured in a lot of GPs when he should have sat it out but needed to ride for the points. If he could have a year without injuries I think we would see a return to the HA of old, or somewhere near it. -

Absolutely. I feel like we've gone backwards 5 years. For me, any one of: Tomas H Jonasson Grigory Laguta Rory Schlein Przemeslaw Pawlicki and possibly Hans Andersen if he could find some decent form. -

He would end the season on about 35 points, and that's with 12 rounds. -
Gp Practice
ImpartialOne replied to racers and royals's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Mike used to do almost all the practices (lots of photos on his website) but due to ill health he had to cut back on things and eventually retire. I don't think it was a case of not being bothered. -
Gp Practice

But the riders have the option of skipping practice if they wish. Very rare that they do so they obviously feel it necessary to do it. -
You are, and I accept. Parsloes does himself no favours when he clearly avoids the challenging side of the argument and instead of answering one simple straight question to back up the point he keeps banging on about, he swerves it and tries to divert attention back to the point that he won't back up! If he was right I'd be the first to admit it, but to be proved right you need to show evidence of why you are right if challenged. He couldn't do this so his argument falls to pieces. I think we should leave him in his time warp, enjoy the present and embrace the excitement of the future.

Any chance of an answer to my question this year? Or have you given up on that one? By the way, I don't know who you were referring to regarding bullying and ganging up but I have tried to be as reasonable as possible in this debate. If you term several people having one point of view to one person having another as bullying then I'm afraid you are wrong. (again ) I can understand your frustration at so many people disagreeing with you but maybe there is a reason for that?
-
Precisely, and as usual, Parsley has completely swerved the issue I was making, which was not that they shouldn't be there, but how they came to be there. Why couldn't they qualify against the test of the world? Had the continentals joined the rounds at the overseas stage there would have been a lit less making up the numbers in World Finals. Parsloes, are you honestly trying to tell me that any three of Hack, Jancarz, Stancl, Starostin and Verner were more worthy of a place than Olsen, Knudsen and Gundersen?
-
I too was brought up on the old World Final but I'm not biased towards them. As good as they were, they were always filled with 5 token continental places with riders who didn't even race against any Danes, Swedes, Brits, Aussies or Americans until they got to the World Final. How was that a fair system? Apart from Muller, they rarely brought anything to the final and were often out of their depth. Take the 1982 World Final as an example; No Ole Olsen (World No.2), no Tommy Knudsen (World No.3), no Erik Gundersen (World No.4) and yet we had Vaclav Verner, Georg Hack and Michail Starostin making up the numbers along with Jiri Stancl and Edward Jancarz!
-
But you are the one who keeps saying it's not a fair system and that the same faces are in it each year so you must therefore think there are riders outside the GP who should be in it. You've just said it again, "it's about having a proper chance given to whoever is in a position to excel". So who on the outside could come into the GPs and excel?
-
No, you're starting to get as confused as Parsley now. The fact is he got a selection despite not qualifying so it's no different than if he'd got injured, he would have got another chance through selection. In the old World Final system, how many riders went out through injury in a qualifyer? Hardly any got seeded to the World Final. So yes it would be a travesty if Ward got injured and wasn't selected, but he was.
-
I've tried to ask you simple straight questions bur you can't or won't answer them so it's impossible to have a debate with you. Everyone can clearly see you have come unstuck with this and instead of admitting you're wrong you keep changing your argument and avoiding the questions put to you, so all I can do is laugh at you. Tell you what, I'm going to give you another chance to gain some face on this. Have another go: Who are these potential world title challenging riders that you claim can't get into the "closed shop of a GP series"? Come on Parsloes, concentrate!
-
Are you sure? Well, despite you still avoiding my straight questions with a straight answer I will answer your points (please note that points don't actually need answering, which is probably why you are still waiting for answers, but I will anyway) You say the GP is a closed shop. And that it doesn't give youngsters any chance to challenge for the world title. Darcy Ward didn't qualify on merit as you would like, but still received a nomination to enter the series. Emil Sayfutdinov didn't qualify through a qualifying system but was handed a place through being World U-21 Champion, something that never happened during the old system. He went on to set the world alight in the difficult series to finish World No.3 at the age of 19. That isn't such a closed shop after all and proves that if you are good enough you will be selected to enter. So I ask you again, outright, who are these riders who should be competing for the world crown who can't get in? Just name names, it's that simple.
