  1. More like embarrassment. Usually by ht4 we are a double figure score behind and struggle to reach 30 by the end. It would be nice just for once to be competitive at Edinburgh, even up to ht10 would do. However your point is right, home form first!
  2. Finished at reserve in the strongest Tigers team of recent memory. He would have been displaced to reserve by the fast rising Morris.
  3. Wishful thinking would say Wolbert, in fact that would be absolute fantasy! More likely to be Wethers, though Pijper would be top of the wish list. Would be annoyed if we rushed in for Rusty when we could get TP for 0.50 more points.
  4. Bearing in mind half our team were posted missing for the bulk of 2013, TP would be most welcome to return, Long Track or not.
  5. An average of 6.63 could potentially see RH become a heat leader if we go for strength at reserve.
  6. What value could you attach to buying Sheffield? They rent their stadium rather than own it and like every other club their 'assets' aren't assets in the accounting sense but valueless bits of paper. I'm sure Sheffield will show a surplus income over expenditure most years and that would buck the trend for speedway. However what price can be determined for the rights to what is essentially a one day a week, summer only, semi professional sport? Having a speedway team seems a bit like owning an old house, great to have but will be a money pit and any likely interest will come from an enthusiast rather than business person. Sheffield also need an air or foam fence installed, £20k minimum that a new owner has to invest, that's a tough one to start! Hope it all works out regardless.
  7. JJ was awful at Ashfield last year other than 2 decent matches in April. Couldn't seem to bridge the gap between NL and PL. He did seem to do well on the bigger tracks so Sheffield may suit him better. Would be very surprised to see him back at Glasgow, the fans are owed a decent home team and JJ wouldn't fit that. No issues with his attitude, we appreciate he travelled much further than his own doorstep unlike some British youngsters.
  8. Did you ever see Havvy away from home in his final 2 seasons? Truly awful, made Les Collins final year at Glasgow seem credible. Havvy looked like he was heading for a reserve berth, despite his home form.
  9. That's what we thought about 2013, the problem is that young upwardly mobiles are hugely inconsistent. Upwardly mobile is also subjective as we've had many a 'prospect' at Glasgow with only a select few actually making any impact. Genuine young riders on the up are unlikely to come to unfashionable Glasgow and we also couldn't afford them. 2014 needs to be a team of seasoned performers, we don't expect a top line No 1 but we do need strong starting reserves that can interchange throughout the season with the struggling second strings.
  10. Rhyme's with kite. Never did hear if Bager or Jacobs registrations were purchased.
  11. Wonder if the next signing will be another familiar Dane! I keep thinking that on a 5.30 average he couldn't be much worse but actually he might just be the same as 2013 which won't do. Interesting that Theo Pijper was billed as appearing last night, he would be a most welcome signing. A solid second string and good home rider, something we really didn't have this year. Also, we are making signings but have no recognised team manager. As a point of interest who is making team decisions?
  12. Thomsen was his own worst enemy, often riding an engine that wouldn't last 2 laps then scoring big points back in Denmark a day later. When he was on song he was excellent just it wasn't often enough.
  13. Incredible season for Grajczonek, PL winners medal with Somerset and an EL winners medal with Poole to add the 2011 PL medal won with Glasgow.
  14. Its somewhat reassuring to know that experienced promoters have lost money. Looking at Eastbourne their owner has had to cover his costs of at least £70,000 in his machine tool business this year just to subsidise the speedway team. That's a phenomenal amount of money in one year. Owners or beneficiaries like this are few and far between, and I'm sure Dugard has had to subsidise Eastbourne most seasons, just not to the same extent. No one in their right mind would buy the club from him where it has shown loss after loss each year, and a phenomenal loss for 2013. As a businessman he must be considering whether to run at all next year as any venture must firstly cover its costs, and you wouldn't blame him for saying I'm not throwing any more money away, I'm closing the doors. So why do we have different expectations of the Glasgow owners? They lost £50,000 this year and are perfectly entitled to say I'm not throwing more money that my main business has to earn, out the window. Why people continually berate them as if they are the enemy is beyond me. I wouldn't do it if it were my money being lost and I doubt any of their moaners on here would either.
  15. We've been at Ashfield for 14 years. At what point did supporters from Shawfield decide Possil on a Sunday wasn't for them? Shawfield was notorious for cars being broken into, I don't believe PP is anywhere near as bad for this despite its reputation. We originally moved from Shawfield as we couldn't afford the rent, I don't believe we could afford it anywhere other than Ashfield, and even now Glasgow speedway cannot cover its costs. During the property boom of the mid 2000's vast swathes of land were bought up by developers to put into land banks, even the rubbishtiest areas you could imagine were being snapped up, just look at the houses built behind Ashfield. To find an alternative venue and its associated costs of laying a track with basic facilities and gaining permission would be huge. Also gaining planning permission from the general public who do not want speedway near them is asking a lot. We've got what we can afford, or not afford as this season has unfortunately shown.
  16. We cant get a break even crowd to come through the gates at Ashfield, try getting them to travel 30 miles away, and to the East!
  17. He's practiced before, no reason to suggest he'll come back this time!
  18. We've strengthened up ! Worse than a man short this season.
  19. Alun and Gordon own the club. The directors only run the club on their behalf. Having had the day to think about it, its straightforward that Glasgow Speedway does not bring in enough supporters and money to break even. No-one in their right mind would continue to do that year after year. The £50k loss over the season I'm sure includes one off costs such as track fixing and buying the bar area however it is a significant amount. The team needs strengthened next year, particularly a new No 1, thus more money needing spent that is not there. The owners, new and old have tried to bring more people through the turnstiles with negligible success. As our standard of living in this country is constantly being eroded people have less money to spend, something that is acutely noticeable in the Greater Glasgow area, as has the amount of money businesses have available for sponsorship. It just isn't there anymore. The level of excitement and entertainment in speedway has also been declining for 4 or 5 years as laydown machinery is far too fast making gate and go the norm at many tracks, I've witnessed plenty and not just at Glasgow. The PL this year has also had many poor teams built for home wins only, ourselves included, that provide poor racing if any on the road, again ourselves included and there is the added gripe of absent riders aplenty, like Plymouth the previous week minus their 2 Danes everyone wanted to see. All in all it seems the time that Glasgow may have come to their natural end. The new owners have simply prolonged that period for another year. Having digs at them astounds me, the bring a friend issue apart, they took over when no-one else would. The team they built was weak but still lost a fortune. I've more or less accepted that Glasgow Tigers will not appear next year, if they do, I'll be there but can't see it.
  20. Incredible when we only reached 45 points on a handfull of occasions and there was talk of riders coming back for 2013 having to take a pay cut. Vicious circle of sh1te team from the off and punters put off.
  21. And its currently pissing it down so would have been less well attended than normal. Time to close this season once and for all.
  22. Those two would make decent starting reserves, its the rest especially recruiting a new No1 that will be the challenge. Joe Jacobs needs to find a home track he is suited to. Henning has been a massive let down this year and shouldn't be back. Hard to come up with 5 riders names as replacements though.
  23. I would happily start the season with Thomsen and Ringwood at reserve but have them under no illusions that they must perform - Anders mechanically and Ringwood points wise - he is hopeless when he doesn't gate. Henning I would only have back if as a reserve, he is totally frustrating as you know he is far better and more often that not doesn't show up in his first ride. Thereafter is anyones guess!
  24. The Fours and PLRC are both on a Sunday and we also don't run on the Sunday of the British GP. That's 3 weeks we cannot run plus there is also the other Sunday club of Newcastle who we seem to meet twice home and away during a season. The shared events really piss me off, I have no interest in them yet their weekend scheduling season after season negatively affects my team.
  25. You have to make your own judgment call whether to go or not based on the weather forecast you see, not what you are told from others, official or not. I learned that a long time ago after wasted journeys to Worky and Edinburgh. I decided last night not to go based on the weather warning just the same as I did for the first Ipswich match that was stopped after ht4. More often than not it has been the right decision. Glasgow had little to lose today, Plymouth were already coming, Anders would already have taken his flight and it was the last PL match. Also being Grieves last proper home appearance may have made people think about going anyway. I think we are paying the price for having 4 weeks between home meetings in July when we had glorious sunshine, perfect for speedway, if a little dusty. One Sunday was the PL Fours however if no one would come for the other Sundays fair enough but we need to be smarter about it in 2014 by not accepting something like this.
