Glasgow V Workington Sunday 12 July 2015 3pm

You have had the same nucleus of Bach, Wells and Howarth for several years with no success. Bach and Wells were awful last year, I was astounded when Worky announced they were going to bring them back for 2015. The team is lacking a genuine No1 above 8.5 or 9 who can score points on the road and inspire the others. Grajczonek wasn't replaced this year although I'm sure they would have tried and Hansen was never going to be able to fulfil that role. A clear out is needed for 2016, though you can only do that if riders are willing to come and finances allow. Workington were a top club in the early to mid 2000's, great teams and travelling fans, hopefully they can get half way back to where they were. -

FFS,that has to be one of the worst meetings this season. Worky had nothing at the top end and nothing at reserve. Wells started good but faded, Rusty was ok and Hansen was decent overall, but when the Comets didn't gate they never looked interested in passing. Berge wasn't missed, Lunna & Roynon did well for Glasgow at reserve, Bjerre was tentative after a fall in his second ride and Lawson & Summers were superb though the lack of opposition helped them to a decent pay packet. A very challenging week coming up for the Tigers, good choice of guests will be critical. -

Absolutely, just getting it in early before the self righteous brigade do afterwards. It won't be slick that's for sure! -

Pretty good chance of an away win at Ashfield today, better get the track doctored! -

Fair do's. Is there still a rule that you cannot sign a rider after August 1 or 31? -

The combined averages of Berge and Howe could be used to offer more flexibility in who we sign. Berge has been poor this season other than his appearances in the 2 Sky meetings, his absence doesn't seriously weaken us at home. Kozza proved to be the wrong signing, as has David Howe his replacement, frustrating when the solid second string we desire was right on our doorstep at the start of the season in Theo Pijper. Short term we now need to rely on guests x 2 and r/r. Definitely not ideal with the number of meetings coming up in the next fortnight. -

If Bates can make it safely round 4 laps of the tight confines of Armadale it would be an achievement. Sissis is a classy rider but seems to lack aggression when required. Doubtful they will cause the home reserves too much trouble. -

We also need Morris to come to the party before his third ride! He's not been that great at recent home meetings compared to earlier in the season. I read he was bringing one of his Swindon engines up so hopefully that makes the difference. -

This should be a great meeting that will go right to the last heat. Worky have no recognised No1 but have strength throughout their middle order where Glasgow are fragile. Still no solution to David Howe r/r, can't understand why, his shoulder injury won't heal itself, it kept him out of racing since April prior to joining us and a track return would seem unlikely. His 7 something average can't be covered by Palovaara, the mis-firing Berge and a twitchy Sarjeant! Wethers is a potential trump card at reserve, Crusty, Wells and Hansen will get among the points as well. Narrow home win! -

Every faller after the second bend bar Morris was a Sheffield rider. Its more likely they came up with the expectation they were going to do a job, it didn't happen and reasons have to be found. The track wasn't the greatest last night, we all recognise that, yet despite all I have read on this thread there was never any request from the Sheffield Team Manager for a track inspection. The reason for Sheffields defeat is their No4 who had he scored the points he threw away Glasgow would have been in trouble. He is oblivious as to how dangerous he is. Best wishes to Ashley Birks. -

Sarjeant fell on the apex of the first and second bend amongst the traffic which isn't quite the same as falling on his own. Our reserves were poor though this is par for the course this season. Victor is far too laid back when chasing down riders in front of him despite having the speed as he showed passing Compton and Berge continued a poor run. -

Other than Morris I don't recall a Glasgow rider having any issues. -

Funny how most of the last page of posters weren't at the match and why you can't draw conclusions for watching live updates. Ht6 Birks went under Sarjeant off bend 4 carried too much speed into the first bend and lost it. Injured his shoulder and withdrawn, rider error. Ht7 Morris bike cut out thundering into the third bend and he came down a cropper. Withdrawn from the meeting, cause - bike issue. In the rerun likewise happened to Compton who then had bike issues for the rest of the evening. Ht7 the moronic Garrity carried far too much speed down the backstraight, went under Lawson almost wiping him out, was never going to make the turn and fell leaving Bellego nowhere to go but run into him on the deck. I thought it was telling that once on his feet Bellego never even turned round to check on his team mate but walked back to the pits on his own. Bellego withdrawn because of his team mate. In the rerun the absolutely wild Bates binned it on the exiting the first bend realising he would make it out of the second bend. Rider error. I could quite happily not see him at a speedway track anytime soon, his scores on the updates are deceptive as when he wasn't locking up he was running out of control to scrape the fence, no one would dare get near him. Once again Glasgow were there for the taking, Berge was poor at reserve though Garrity cost it for Sheffield with his absolute stupidity. Unlikely to be enough points for us to take to Sheffield in 2 weeks. -

Shortage of riders overall! Sending Ty Proctor home on a technicality was a nonsense, perhaps the points limit for overseas riders should be lowered to 5.50, would still keep the likes of Campton out but would mean some of the better Australians could still come here and bolster the PL. We simply don't have enough British riders to fill our teams. -

Seems like we need a new rider. The shoulder issue has been ongoing for a while and is unlikely to cure itself. The logic for signing Howe was sound, no work permit required, no doubling up or foreign commitments and knew all the tracks. However we are back to the drawing board and struggling in the middle order, available riders will be hard to come by. I've noticed that Anders Thomsen is going ok and won the Euro U21 semi final last night. He is frustrating little bugger but on a better deal where he isn't paying his own air fares, could he do a job for us? I'm lost for potential riders otherwise! -
Berwick Bandits V Glasgow Tigers 27/6/15
MD replied to crescent girl's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Glasgow turned up with 2 NL riders to cover 3 riders and were never going to trouble Berwick. As well as having no presence at reserve we had no middle order to speak of. Alarm bells are ringing with David Howe, in only his third match. He isn't scoring and his shoulder issue has re-emerged, as it did at Peterborough on Wednesday. He could yet turn out to be a very short signing. We can't afford to carry any riders if we have any ambition to be succesful this year, as it is I have my doubts that James Sarjeant can carry it off now he is in the 1-5. Summers has far exceeded my expectations this year and is forgiven for a poor night. Blaming the Berwick track is nothing more than a deflection tactic for those taken in by the hype. We will leave the expectation that we have the right to win everywhere to the 0131's. As it is we have frailties and at minimum need Berge to re-find his confidence at reserve, he has only performed in one match this season. -
How many people in London are actually British, legally entitled to be here or interested in speedway. Its not always about numbers.

Surely supporting your team is greater than the choice of a guest rider, especially when your promotion have openly said crowds for some recent matches have been below break even.
-
They were before the new silencer changes in 2011 and produced brilliant racing. Riders like Bomber, Hans Anderson and a few others have never been the same since they were changed.
-
Track was over-prepared, little chance of passing and showed up poorly on Sky. Glasgow never did enough to win, especially in the opening heats where they picked up too many last places. David Howe will take a bit of time to get up to speed though its a bit of a concern he was pulled from his third ride with a shoulder issue. Is this the same injury that affected him earlier in the year?
