Scunthorpe Scorpions 2022

Amongst the supporters methinks... being in the box all those years was great, but I've missed the crack of being with mates in the crowd. -
Scunthorpe Scorpions 2022

I'm very grateful the town still has speedway team to support. Rob does a grand job keeping us afloat and providing us with a competitive 'home' team. My comment was a generalisation of all things 'Scunthorpe'. Like many Northern towns, we get treated like an Industrial outpost, a wasteland Central Government rarely takes much notice of when it comes to funding. A hard, run down town, its had its fair share of knocks over the years...but with that, it's bred a degree of apathy... we're expected to accept whatever you get, and we generally do. For what its worth, I think the team Rob has put together is a big improvement on the one that started last year. I didn't get to any meetings last year, but very much looking forward to attending next. -

Its a Scunny thing... whatever the sport, whatever the issue.. its in our DNA to accept mediocrity, it'll never change. -

I'd agree with that (if, as we expect, its Aarnio).. maybe it be better to just announce the three heat leaders in one swoop -

Good signing, likeable lad, goes well round Scunny. If the team is more or less as rumoured, the only question mark left is whether its Aarnio or A.N.Other for 3rd heat leader spot. -
Unfortunately I've heard the same... That's me...I'm done... Scunny Speedway 50 years old today, it's played a major part of my life... I started supporting in 1974. Volunteering since the rebirth in 2005... Anyone want a crack at Incident Recording/Timekeeping get your applications in to the promotion... Its a good crack, you'll see sides to speedway general supporters don't see... And you get the best seat in the house! Over n out!

Some teams have managed to spark some interest and enthusiasm... and good luck to them. My team, no such thing, same old same old... If Jake comes over and rides for someone else, that'd be the final straw for me. I've never felt so despondent going into a new season. Think my time as a supporter/volunteer is coming to an end.

A good race track and close racing is one thing... as a home fan, losing at home on a regular basis is another, its demoralising... sadly that all I see happening with our proposed line up There's not much in this Scorpions line up that excites me, too many journeymen, Palin aside, where's the youth? There's a couple of riders in there that bore the pants off you... why no Ryan Kinsley? Sorry to seem despondent and negative... but after enduring the year we have, I need something to ignite some interest, so far there hasn't been any. I fear my involvement in the sport is coming to an end.

I'm struggling to find any enthusiasm for speedway this year....hopefully as the season draws nearer i'll feel different. Obviously the covid situation is effecting everyone and everything, especially speedway....rider shortage particularly being my main beef...Scunny (and others) having to go extremely weak due to inability to fill the gaps makes me wonder if its worth it. Perhaps the speedway bosses have caused their own problem. If my math is correct (that would be a first lol), there's currently a 94 strong pool of riders in the top two leagues, 32 of which double up. Had they evened the leagues out (in terms of teams) to 9 premier and 9 championship, allowing the premier teams 5 double uppers, that would equate to a rider pool of 81.....the point i'm making is by increasing the number of clubs in the premier league would've eased the current rider shortage.
-
Think Jake would require to double up to make it worth it... his place at Ipswich is taken
-
I'm still hoping for two changes.... this one, I believe strengthens us at reserve.... then another for Jake's replacement. I doubt that'll happen though, too much of a rider shortage. Can see us going very understrength.
-
As someone becoming increasingly bored of the team situation at Scunny... and someone getting used to life in the covid era... any inclusion of James Sargeant would be the end of my involvement in the sport.... I need my interest igniting, unless things change I fear im done with the sport.
-
We all know you Dan.... Scunny through n through, you'll never desert the Scorpions. Was you p****d when you wrote that lol. Feel for Rob having to find a replacement for Jake... hope he can pull something out the bag.
-
Whatever team we end up with... i'm anticipating a change or two to our original line up... we might get smashed at Poole... but Plymouth... if that happens we must be crap...
-
I know making several changes isn't likely to happen, difficult task given the limited rider availability! If the season gets underway, which is far from a given..it shouldn't be a case of just having speedway back. We need to reinvigorate interest, if we put a team out simply to make numbers up, that's my interest gone and probably forever.
-
As if that would ever happen... Tai could've done so much for Scunthorpe Speedway since winning his first world championship.. he's done nothin. As for the Scorpions 2021... since Jakes announcement, reckon we need a major rebuild ... I think we need 3 new riders not just a replacement for Jake... I'd sooner us withdraw from the league than be just a number.

Any idea of Theo's average?
-
Hardly inspiring....I did hear whispers of it being a short term deal, however no mention of that in the press release....so maybe not.
-
Devastating news..... RIP Danny
-
Maybe it time to get speedway pumped into betting shops...
-
Rumours are rife at this time of year... only time will tell if this has any truth to it...
-
Have heard a strong rumour that Jake Allen is lined up for The Tigers
-
If this is the scenario...Plymouth in and Newcastle out.... would that then mean Plymouth replacing Leicester in the southern region?....Leicester go into the northern group? ...don't think they'd be too happy about that!
-
Again, he puts 'what's in the best interest for british speedway' before the best interests of his club .
-
Agree, its a great idea.... not sure how it can be described as 'regional' though... Seems a tad harsh on Scunny, no local derbies, just lots of travelling to the most northern of outposts.
