  1. Whether its a cost sharing issue or not, who knows? My personal opinion of the situation is this venture has damaged the Scunthorpe support. We supporters would just love to be on a level par with our nearest neighbours at Sheffield instead we're always playing the bridesmaid. The Saints offered us Scunny fans something to be rightfully proud of, something Sheffield didnt have, a successful national league team...but no, we're expected to share our success with them. Well, it gutted me at the time it was announced...and if i'm honest it still does. It peeved me off to the point I almost turned my back on speedway. I still support the Scorpions, but the Saints?... This season has felt so disjointed, iv'e all but lost any interest or enthusiasm I once had. Ditch the merger I say, bring the Saints back to their rightful home. Sheffield...get yer own.
  2. Welcome points for the Saints. Gloss taken of the win by the crash involving J'lo. Hope he's injuries don't prove too serious, speedy recovery to the lad.
  3. Best wishes to Stefan...hope the injuries aren't as serious as feared.
  4. Pleased Danny Stoneman turned up, cos apart from him Dudley were woeful. Not a good advert for NL speedway. A most welcome three points for Scunny, easiest three points they'll get all season.
  5. Less controversial..but not too disimilar events when the Saints went there early on this season. Parade : Wrathall fell on Parade and hurt his shoulder Heat 01: Saints on 5-1 when Cooper slid off bend 3. In re-run Richardson nudged Worrall first bend. Worrall fell. Heat 02: R. Worrall leading for 2 laps fell last lap trying to defend 2nd. Heat 03: Heat 04: Heat 05: Heat 06: Was a 3-3 until both Saints fell bend 3. Heat 07: Heat 08: Nielsen fell 1st bend after the race had already been stopped. Richardson fell lap 1. Heat 09: Heat 10: Bekker fell last lap while leading. Richardson retired lap 3 after falling bend 2. Heat 11: Nielseen fell bend 4 while challenging the Belle Vue Pair. Heat 12: Heat 13: Cooper fell bend 2 after making a fine gate. Heat 14: Nielsen went into bend 1 too hard and came a cropper. Heat 15: Birks fell 2nd bend. I make that 14 crashes :-( http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=bvc&action=display&thread=7836
  6. Maybe had Newport done their job properly and produced an evenly graded/watered start line then Richard wouldn't of needed to put his point over in such animated style.... End of the day, he was only doing his job..to see fair play and do his bit for his team...end of. If every club had someone of Richards ilk at their disposal then the sport would a far greater one for it. The sheer dedication, enthusiasm and work rate of the guy is quite something...such an asset not only to Scunthorpe Speedway but to the whole of British speedway. He and his good lady wife deserve all the recognition they get for providing rider opportunities via the practice sessions, amateur meetings etc... God knows how many hours they must put in behind the scenes to provide such a service! Well done Richard..you stood your ground, ensured fair play...good on you.
  7. Would Jerran be fit for the final? He came a cropper in his last ride last night, looked like he was having treatment to his arm...any updates?
  8. You've highlighted one or two grumbles i've heard from fellow Scorpion fans. The track lighting could be better, spectator lighting and viewing could be better etc etc..I hear it all the time. However, Rob works his guts off down there, he can only do what he can..i'm sure if the resourses were available then he'd sort these things out...who knows, he may have plans to do just that? I'm appreciative of what we have..a great race track and entertainment of the highest order, so I ain't gonna criticise...just live in hope that one day.. As for double headers...love'em. As for racedays, gotta agree that bank holiday fridays would be more lucrative..how many families went to the coast on friday and came home penniless for the rest of the weekend!...no money to attend the speedway.
  9. Not too much history then..tbh the past is exactly that, past, gone, forgotten about. Sheffield means nothing to me, never has and never will. Likewise Scunthorpe will mean very little to Sheffield fans. I believe this venture is perhaps more to do with track availability than simply finance..obviously finance will enter the equation but with more stockcar nights planned this year it will inevitably mean less nights for speedway. If thats the case fine, the promotion have to do whats best for their business, if that means running a few home meetings elsewhere..so be it, I've no problem with that. However, for some die hard scunny fans (and I know a few), news of this merger has been little hard to swallow. Some of whom have sponsored or helped in little ways towards riders costs etc, to them it feels like they've losing their own. Its been difficult, its been disheartening to the point that they're battling to recapture any enthusiasm they once had for speedway....sad. So when our lads line up at Belle Vue, call them whatever, i'll be sat infront of my laptop cheering on the mighty Saints..
  10. Until Sheffield provide half a team or more of their own own assets then they're never gonna be anything other than the SAINTS..One outta seven tiggers... Prowlers yer having a laff Seriously now.. Good luck to them. Think the Scunny/Sheffield team will be a match for anyone this year..It'll be interesting to see which rider will fair the best this season..The Worrall Bros and Birksy have had a good start to the season at PL level. Coops should hopefully find this league to his liking. Gaz Irving has looked good in practice. Adam Wrathall will hopefully put a point or two on his average and young Stefan Neilsen has impressed greatly too in amateur meetings. The ingredients are there, If they can keep it all together I can see them winning the league this year. Should be a cracker at Belle Vue, it'll certainly be more entertaining than most Elite League fixtures...shame I can't get to see it.
  11. I've been told that bookings can't be made online, they must be made via telephone (08715278960). Hope that helps. Premier Inn is situated approximately 3 miles south of the EWR...its actually within yards of Scunnys old Ashby Ville home. For anyone travelling its postcode is DN16 3UA. Again..Message posted on behalf of Scunthorpe Speedways Marketing Manager.
  12. Sorry about that...I was just the messenger..i'll try to get some clarification for you.
  13. Attention travellers.... Speedway fans looking for accommodation in Scunthorpe this season can take advantage of a generous offer by Premier Inns. Premier Inns are offering a 20% Discount off the daily rate (Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays) throughout the coming season. This offer is not applicable with any other offer. To take advantage...you must quote AMUSP20 at the time of booking. Message posted on behalf of Scunthorpe Speedways Marketing Manager.
  14. Many thanks for the swift reply Jayne...yours and malcolms replies are most appreciated.
  15. Malcolm Is there a facility which would allow the likes of Joe Haines to ride in the NL. A rider above a 5 point PL average, no premier league team place this year, recovering from serious injury etc etc....it'd be a shame if such a rider is frozen out through no fault of his own. Is there a facility that allows such a rider chance to ride national league, perhaps on a negociated lower average?
  16. Whether Paul becomes the number one or not remains to be seen, I think we need to remember the horrific injuries he sustained last year. It could take a while for Paul to get back to his best. I think any rider, particularly young brits, who's suffered career threatening injuries should at least be allowed the opportunity to regain confidence by riding in the National League....regardless of averages.
  17. I see Scunny are opening up the training track so that supporters can have a go....20 laps for a fiver, bargain...anyone up for it?
  18. The Saints offers us Scunny fans genuine hope of success this season....the thought of us sharing with Sheffield has just dampened my enthusiasm somewhat. Love Scunny, Love the Saints, there meetings last season were just as, if not more entertaining as the Scorpions....don't think i'll bother travelling to Sheffield to watch them. I'm sure Robs doing this all for good reason, it can't be easy fitting all the meetings in without running double headers etc...but I'm feeling a bit deflated now, it's like we're losing part of our identity and the success that is The Saints.
  19. The Clamart, good choice... Nice bar, excellent food, central location..another pub just 50yds away.
  20. I haven't heard too many complaints from the Stock Car fans who regularly attend the EWR in huge numbers. Be nice to see the stadium (which many speedway supporters helped build) filled by speedway supporters for a change.
  21. Easy Peasy, a team full of Scunny Assets. Steve Worrall Richie Worrall Ash Birks Gary Irving Adam Wrathall Byron Bekker Luke Chessell or Scott Richardson In all fairness I possibly opt for Luke rather than Scott. Scott's been around Scunny for years now, he's promised alot over the years but has never quite managed go up a notch. Maybe he'd benefit from a year elsewhere? He rides Stoke pretty well..? Would prefer Richard Franklin over either of these two, is going out on loan again? I'd like to see Byron given another chance to resurrect his Scunny career. He'd add a bit of steel and his experience should benefit some of the younger lads.
  22. http://www.scunthorpespeedway.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1282434261&archive=&start_from=&ucat=6& Last paragraph...seems its Bank Holiday Monday, double header with Sheffield
  23. EdwardIan. You don't half come across as a rather bitter, troublesome individual. The general tone and negativity in your posts are very much in common with the illiterate rubbish spouted on the somewhat quiet unofficial forum. Any coincidence?
  24. Just out of interest does anyone know whether Scunny would have to pay for an appeal? Not that this case should need an appeal, surely a bit of common sense from the powers that be would bring the whole situation to an amicable end....I won't hold my breath though.
