  1. Good luck to Tom...He's a good lad, on the up, should do well for Lynn.
  2. Robs answered some of the questions.. http://scunthorperac...splay&thread=83 We've been here before..Scunny can give riders free use of the track..practice sessions, amateur meets, second halfs etc... develop them the correct way. In Max and Olivers case, they're both 'on the up' solid NL standard riders with great potential. I can understand riders wanting to ride for their local track, no problem with that...but to throw these development opportunities away (particularly at their current stage of development), to me smacks of bad timing and disrespect....they were on a good progression course, why ruin it? I only hope for their sake they get similar opportunities elsewhere and that they can still progress at the rate they were doing. Scunny have a proud record of bringing young brits up to premier league level and beyond...these two lads were on course to achieve just that. I'll watch with interest to see how these two get on now. Others riders have taken a similar route and not done too bad (Howarth and Ashley Morris spring to mind)...possibly they'd be much better riders had they stayed at Scunny another season, that we'll never know ? But these are difficult times... if riders get offered the money, they gotta consider it. Sadly Loyalty is the loser. Speedway is also going through difficult times, promoters, management, riders and fans need to work together to get us out of this mess....sadly it seems that certain agents/promoters are still going behind backs, tapping up, whilst destroying the time and effort other clubs have put into a riders development. Sad....Its also sad (but understandable) why Scunny feel the need to pull the plug on NL next season.
  3. Happy with the team...big welcome back to the 2012 Scorps...and a massive welcome to Ryan Douglas, looks like a great prospect, good luck to the lad.
  4. Well Done Scunny...Fantastic effort all season. Chuffed to bits for all involved. Commisserations to Somerset, that was one hell of a battle you put up. I've read alot of adverse comments with reference to Richard Hall, what I will say...He threw everything at Morris and Auty in heat 15, was up with them, made several attempted passes, very nearly got the Rebels the point they required....he would be a Somerset hero if it wasnt for some desparate scunny team riding. And finally...the Rebels supporters that were in attendance....class act... friendly banter as it should be. Well done.
  5. Happy with Bunyan, done us a good job guesting a few weeks back...won alot of friends amongst us scunny fans. As for Somerset...Jason Doyle is such a great rider, finding a guest to match his calibre is damn near impossible. You've mentioned Fisher and Robson...both go well round Scunny, Richard Hall...when he's on it...and i've said it before, theres no better sight in british speedway than seeing Hally blast round turns 3/4 at scunny...that said, his scores can be somewhat inconsistent. Good luck to whoever guests, hope they put on a good show. Todays been a right disappointment....weatherwise, this morning was fine ...was well looking forward to the speedway. Rain started lightly around lunch and steadily got heavier and more prolonged. Us scunny fans were as disappointed as anyone with the postponement...but gotta feel really sorry for the Rebels fans that had made the long trip.... (bet Rob Godfrey was too, thats a fair bit of revenue thats likely lost!). A good number of visiting supporters aways adds to the atmosphere, shame that many of those won't return tomorrow. Just hope the weather behaves itself tomorrow and we get this one done and dusted. Obviously would prefer the Scorpions to do the business...but lets just hope for a good clean meeting and no injuries... Advance congradulations to whoever comes out winners.
  6. Keep it on your side then fozzie. Im a few miles from the track, we've had the odd spot n spit...nothing heavy or too threatening....hope it stays that way.
  7. Well done Somerset on the win, big well done to Scunny for keeping scores close. Still all to play for though...roll on sunday, can see this going to the very last heat.
  8. Thats not to mention that Edinburgh, already out the reckoning were gonna field a weakened team...which in my opinion was somewhat disrepectful to Scunthorpe and the premier league in general. If they'd of still been in the mix they'd of been stronger for sure. Given the circumstances, Worky could of easily picked up the required win. I'm obviously happy to see Scunny placed in the final, albeit in controversial circumstances.. having convincingly overcome both Edinburgh and Workington in these play-offs there is a great degree of merit attached to their inclusion. Tough on Workington though, sympaphise with them...not an ideal finish a season. Timing of these play-offs need looking at for next season, can't have another farcical situation like this again. We know the weather isnt speedways best friend, particularly at this time of year, maybe next season they can aim to have the play-off situation sorted by the end of september....or scrap them altogether.
  9. If it doesn't get restaged...the only fair decision would be to award a final spot to Scunny. Like you say, they've already got the better of both teams in their play-off group, thats something those two clubs can't possibly match... whether this meeting gets restaged or not.
  10. Comprehensive thrashing given out by Scunny...Worky just simply didn't know what hit them. Apart from a brief flash of brilliance from Rene Bach, Workington offered very little resistance. (Least Bach looked in fine form...until..the most unfortunate engine failure and a nasty looking fall curtailed his personal score). For Scunny...Take a bow Michael Palm Toft, 21 paid max. Brilliant. Josh Auty riding through the pain barrier for another fine paid max (thanx to Bachs ef). The two Sheffield guests did a grand job and contributed well. However, the four regular Scorpions on show amassed a decent 47 between them, enough to have won the meeting on their own. A fine performance and some fantastic racing...just hope it'll be enough to take Scunny to the final, its out of their hands now.
  11. Bloody shame innit...Bit of investment on the terraces, overcome a few H&S issues here and there and maybe the speedway crowds would improve. Used to love Owlerton in the 70's/80's...pint in each bar, views from the back straight, used to be superb....oh the memories.
  12. Yeah, why wasnt it open? Think I can answer my own question, I guess its down to cost cutting by the stadium owners. On the subject of the stadium, I know they've spent lots of money on the restaurant etc...but are there any plans to invest eleswhere? I've been visiting owlerton 30 odd years, it once was fantastic stadium offering great viewing from wherever....don't get me wrong, the stadium and facilities are still much, much better than most tracks have to offer, but what would it take to return Owerton to its best? Reopen the back straight. Reopen 1st and 3rd bend bars. Return seating on the home straight. Bigger pits. Love to see it...but won't hold my breath.
  13. Wish I hadn't bothered, my fault, should've of let my head rule my heart....£20 petrol, 1 x adult £20, 2x kids £10, £4 prog, £2 car park....£56 for 4 heats and not much chance of us being able to attend a re-staging. Oh well, thats the life of a speedway supporter....we give, they take! On the bright side...Josh n Nick get another chance after a dodgy first ride :-)
  14. Any weather updates?. Kinda in two minds at the mo whether to bother or not.
  15. Expected a tough night, I looked at Redcars team and thought this could go either way. However, I needn't of worried because as events unfolded this proved to be a fairly comfortable night for the Scorpions. Bit processional early doors but the racing certainly improved as the night wore on. No weak links in the Scunny side, good team effort...difficult to single one out as a 'rider of the meeting', perhaps MPT for yet again providing some heart stopping manouvers. For Redcar, Kus was awesome, great value..Summers appauling (machinery, injury?), so puzzled by his poor show. Reserves outclassed and not alot to say about the rest other than expected better. Another 3 points for the Scorps, onwards n upwards :-)
  16. Great nights entertainment...superb value for a tenna . Michael Palm Toft was in fantastic form, well done to him, he'll prove a great asset to Scunny in the coming seasons. Robson was the pick of Rockets, a string of 2nd places, perhaps deserved more for his efforts. Overall, a good meeting despite the comfortable ease in Scunthorpes victory. 30 heats, saved the best one til last...for those that stayed behind, the NL match was something of a cracker...one of the best heat 15s seen for a while. Well done both teams....Hindsights a wonderful thing, had the Rockets used the impressive James Sargeant in the PL meeting perhaps the scoreline would've been a weenie bit closer.
  17. Have to agree with Richard..heat 5 of the Stags v Sheff match was an absolute classic, the lead changing hands on almost every bend, all three riders heading the race at some point....best race ive seen at this level by far. Well done boys, credit due, shame more supporters didnt stay back to watch it, deserved a greater audience.
  18. Good show from the young'uns today...who said theres no young brits coming through? Well done to all the competitors, some fantastic racing, definately some stars of the future on show today. Slick meeting too, 37 races in about two and a half hours... and less than a handful of fallers. Just a shame a few more fans didnt turn up to see it.
  19. I felt my post may get a tad misinterpretated. I'm a big fan of National League racing having followed it a good number of years and hopefully many more years to come. My comment on it being less structured could've been worded better, what I meant was in the PL all teams have the same agenda, whereas in the NL sadly that isn't the case....that in itself could make the league a little less attractive to some supporters. I was perhaps wrong to single you out, Mildenhall along with Dudley and Stoke are the big fish in what is a quite small pond. I was merely asking Mildy supporters what their preference would be. Hopefully your crowds will continue and your club can grow. Maybe in a few years time we could see Mildy running at both levels with Ipswich returning to the Elite, then you'd have the perfect development structure...which can only be good for all concerned.
  20. Just out of interest..mildenhalls crowds seemed to increase last year, would it not be viable option to return to the premier league, maybe next year? What would you fans prefer, would you pay an extra few quid to watch a more structured league (by that i mean, a proper competition, all teams one agenda) or are you content paying less and being the big fish in the national league?
  21. Yeah, well done Scunny...and Richard, a real credit to speedway. He's perhaps Scunnies best asset. Riders can be replaced but finding someone with Richards drive, enthusiasm and dedication to the cause would be near impossible. Great job Rich, keep it up mate.
  22. Congrats Scunny Jeeezz talk about leaving it late. Hard luck Mildy, good effort.
