  1. Strange how the second rate guest rider tonight was the top scorer. Reading through this thread you're not the only miserable sod though as there seems to be quite a lot on Coventry threads. Glad I stood with 9 Swindon fans tonight who were a great laugh, especially the one with the megaphone, although Lucy didn't get much sleep.
  2. Swop you for Scott Nicholls then, plus a packet of Cheese and Onion Crisps?
  3. Would it help if I take two? I've got a spare at home. Are there two Sky matches this week then?
  4. No you're right they don't but sadly they are the reasons why more people don't attend Storm meetings because they happen more frequently in the N.L. I'll still attend but I know others who have stopped going.
  5. Well, I know who I will be watching ~ James Shanes. Loved his style of riding since he rode for us.
  6. COVENTRY Storm can take another big step towards National League Gold Cup qualification in an important double-header at Brandon on Friday. The City Gearboxes Storm take on Kent and Mildenhall (7pm start) and if they can beat both opponents, they will be in a very strong position to secure a top four finish. The first match is against Kent, who boast a powerhouse top order including skipper Ben Morley and the fast-improving Danny Ayres who impressed greatly when guesting for Coventry in the Elite League last week - and they track seemingly a strengthened line-up with Ellis Perks and rider-replacement covering the unavailable Aaron Baseby and Jamie Couzins. The Kings are two points behind the Storm but only have one home match remaining, with four defeats at Central Park severely denting their own top-four hopes. The teams have already met this season in the KO Cup, with Kent going through after an extraordinary second leg at Brandon which finished 45-45 with 13 of the 15 races drawn! Mildenhall are currently placed ninth in the table but are in fact one of five teams on 16 points, including Kent, such is the congested nature of the National League table. The Fen Tigers are yet to win on the road in the league this season, but the Storm will be fully aware that they have been very much their bogey team over the last couple of years. Since Coventry entered the competition in 2013, they have never beaten Mildenhall at home, with the West Row side victorious on all three of their visits. The Storm are at full strength for both meetings with Martin Knuckey moving into the No.5 position, and as with their previous double-header they will track both of their promising 16-year-olds, Jamie Halder and Callum Walker, in one match each. Manager Laurence Rogers said: “Both Kent and Mildenhall are still in contention for a Gold Cup place themselves, so there’s going to be some close racing. “It’s just a pity that our boys have hardly raced at home so it’s almost like an away match for them as well - but having said that, look at how well we do away from home with 12 points this season. “We’ll be out to pick up all six points available. We want to be in that Gold Cup, because this team has really blossomed as the year has gone on.” Admission is just £15 for adults (all kids free) for a full 30-heat programme of racing. 7. Hopefully it will be £10 admission for everyone being as it's on Sky and there are two other matches that week as well.
  8. Not sure I would ever follow the sat nav with that post code again as it took us a very weird way and we came in a completely different way to usual ~ round the back somehow. I know there was a lot of moaning going on from the other half.
  9. Not just Leicester as the majority of fans from all clubs have little interest these days in friendly or individual meetings.
  10. So what happens when the fortnightly meeting is 'rained off' ~ wait another 2 weeks for the next one so it's one in a month? Sorry but I'd like to go to the Speedway every week and know that Friday night is Speedway night at Coventry and if that means getting rid of the GP/SEC riders so there is no clash with our matches I'll put up with it.
  11. I don't really understand why Coventry are trying to extend the date but perhaps I'm just being a bit thick. I know 3 matches in a week isn't ideal but which would they drop? Surely not Bank Holiday Monday as that's usually guaranteed a good attendance and Bees aren't riding this coming Friday. The Sky match on Wednesday against Swindon? That's likely to have the lowest crowd since the Poole match on Sky as half the fans seem to prefer to stay at home and watch on TV. Then we're back to our usual Friday night racing against Leicester which is our final league match prior to the play-offs, so I should think the obvious choice would be the Sky match. However to put that back would perhaps mean riding against Swindon twice within a few days if both teams meet in the play-offs.
  12. Do Coventry have a choice whether they let a rider guest or not or does the rider decide what he's going to do?
  13. Who me? I didn't find anything funny about this afternoon, trudging round the wood in the rain and mud then getting back to hear that the meeting was going ahead at 6pm as long as there was no more rain. The sun was out so I thought everything was going to be okay and it was worth waiting. Obviously a wrong decision and those who left had the best idea. If you mean about the houses I didn't mean that to be funny either but it's the first time I've actually walked all round the edge of the car park and realised how big an area it is. Seems inevitable really that the stadium will eventually be lost ~ an owner who wants the land and a sport with just 8 teams in the league lurching from one disastrous season to another.
  14. So he's fit again now? Let's hope he gets through the match unscathed being as Coventry have 4 important meetings coming up during the Bank Holiday week.
  15. She probably does but she was happy enough as she had over an hour's walk in the wood and then after I'd had something to eat another walk round the perimeter of the car park.. They're going to get a lot of houses on that site. I thought we were going to be okay when this arrived. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154148609612785&set=pcb.10154148610552785&type=1&theater
  16. Typical bloody Speedway. Start delayed until 6pm and told the meeting will be on as long as there was no more rain. Well, there wasn't, in fact there were blue skies and the sun was shining so we are kept hanging around for two hours for nothing. I don't know why I bother. Well, she had a good walk in the wood as I got there at 2.15pm and yes we did both get soaked, but once dried off everything was going to be worthwhile wasn't it because the meeting was still on, just delayed for two hours. Wonder what went wrong with that plan.
  17. COVENTRY Storm take centre stage on Sunday with a big local derby against fierce rivals Cradley in the National League at Brandon (4pm). The City Gearboxes Storm are currently fourth in the table and are looking for points to secure a place in the end-of-season Gold Cup competition. The Heathens, meanwhile, are still in with a chance of completing a hat-trick of titles, although those hopes took a setback with a narrow defeat at King’s Lynn on Friday - meaning a win on Sunday is essential for them. The Storm have switched riding order with the in-form Martin Knuckey taking the No.5 role, whilst Darryl Ritchings suffered a broken finger in a guest booking for Swindon on Thursday but does plan to ride. Cradley, as always, track a powerhouse line-up including one of the league’s top performers in captain Max Clegg, and several other riders with the potential to become No.1s, including Matt Williamson and the spectacular Ellis Perks. The Heathens suffered just one defeat home or away during the 2014 season - and that came at Brandon in a highly dramatic meeting on Easter Monday, which the Storm will seek to repeat. Boss Laurence Rogers said: “Marty has hit a rich vein of form home and away so he’s moving to No.5, and hopefully switching Darryl will help his confidence and see him racking up the points again. “We want to build on the wins over King’s Lynn and Stoke and keep up our challenge for a place in the Gold Cup. It should be a really good battle on Sunday with Cradley playing catch-up on Birmingham.” The meeting, which also features a Midland Development League fixture, will include Coventry’s National League collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund. CRADLEY (from): Max Clegg, Nathan Greaves R/R, Luke Harris, Arron Mogridge, Michael Neale, Ellis Perks, Matt Williamson.
  18. Hardly any rain so far - five minutes at the most and the sun is shining.
  19. Not having ones 'proper name' doesn't really stop any comeback though does it? I'm not changing my name or photo as I've been on here since 2001 and most people know who I am. Those that don't can always ask if they're interested enough as I've got nothing to hide, not that I can ever hide anyway as I'm usually recognised at the other end of a dog lead.
