Relegation And Promotion Play Offs
Gemini replied to flagrag's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Don't know about the Sheffield leg because I wasn't there and haven't got BT Sport, but I agree about the racing last night which was pretty boring and not how it usually is. Perhaps there is something to be said for staying in the Premier League afterall. -
Relegation And Promotion Play Offs

Don't bother doing the lottery this week as your prediction was way out about a sparse/low crowd because it looked pretty good to me. A lot of tracks would be happy to get an attendance like that, especially for a pretty unimportant fixture as the result was never in doubt and having to brave horrible weather. I don't know about being anywhere near the stands but I was also worried about the lights which were rocking around in the high wind. -
I'd say Leicester's are down but still pretty good attendances compared to other tracks. It's going to take a while to entice back the fans who gave up during the years of processional racing and the antics of David Hemsley didn't exactly help matters.

They've probably already been sold on EBay. In fact the 2010 trophy fetched a brilliant price as my source has told me Matt bought that one as he was determined to get his hands on it somehow.

According to someone on Facebook Mick Horton has put all the Coventry assets up for sale. That little snippet might have come from the meeting.

Are the Tigers having two goes on their own track then?

The 'like' was for the post not this bit because you're not.

I think it was pretty obvious we'd never see him again after his accident. I don't think he'll be in the team list next season. Oh good! -

I think he's being sarcastic. When Garrity rode at Leicester last time he went from 15 metres in three of his races so would be a good rider to guest if you want to lose the match. I live in hope that this will happen while I'm still capable of getting to Beaumont Park as I much prefer Championship racing, but I doubt it will happen. -

I'm looking forward to it too because looking on the bright side it's surely got to be better than how I spent October 11th last year after breaking my hip in Snowdonia. -

£5 and a free Burger? -
I think you have got one little word too many in that post.......'if'. I reckon Leicester want to drop down but doubt if the Tigers want to go up so the matches should be very interesting, once they sort out exactly who is riding for who.

I'm veggie. Winner, winner chips for dinner.

There is only room in the stadiums car park for 235 so it fills up very quickly and the rest have to park in the Shopping Centre. I just go straight there because it's normally full pretty early for league matches. I'm not sure about motorcycle parking but I doubt it could be left actually inside as there isn't room. I've seen motorbikes left in the car park and there is also usually a training school going on on Sunday's so people around. I think your best bet though is to get in touch with the stadium via the website to see if your motorbike could be left nearer where the riders park and disabled drivers. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope you enjoy the meeting. Unfortunately I can't go as we have our big annual family get-together this Sunday. Edit......Just checked and there is room for 15 motorcycles in the stadium car park but of course that is not inside but a little way down the hill. Contact details if you did want to telephone beforehand............ Telephone: Stadium Office: 0116 235 8916 Mobile: 07484 915 573

Just to pick up on this I did comment on Sunday how a lot of the riders in the British Junior Championship at Leicester were keeping the throttle open all the way round and not shutting off halfway along the straights like I've seen some of them do. Very impressive! Just gutted we had to leave after heat 7 in order to get back to the car park before the 4 hour limit was up as we were really enjoying watching them.
-
Yes, that's how it worked. I've never had a bet in my life but opened an account with £5 so I could watch Coventry's away matches. Small screen, one camera and no sound, although at some tracks it was possible to hear the announcer. When they stopped showing Speedway I was able to withdraw the £5 so it was great value.

They'll probably arrange it for the doubling up riders to be in their championship team at home then riding for Leicester at Beaumont Park, with both teams trying desperately to lose. Or.........alternatively the relegation play-offs could just be quietly forgotten as a stupid idea in the first place because tracks have always decided which league they are financially more able to run in. We will know the answer soon.

Yes, he's independant as he doesn't have a team to support, not having one in Wales. Are you saying otherwise? I mean he has some weird ideas especially about us poor old folk but most of what he says is sensible and he's always banging on about fixture clashes so I'd give him the job in 2018. He can't do it any worse than it's been done for the last few seasons.
-
But hopefully there won't be any anyway so it won't be a problem. I've got a better idea each track keep their current selected race night if they wish but get someone in who understands how to arrange the fixtures to avoid clashes between the Premiership and Championship. Rain-offs apart this shouldn't be that difficult ~ I bet SCB could do it. If riders want to be in Poland or SEC meetings etc., then don't bother employing them to ride in the UK. I'd be quite happy with a 'lower standard' as long as some thought is given to how the races are sorted out so that riders of a roughly equal standard meet each other.

Leicester V Coventry Bees Challenge Friday 28th July
Gemini replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I presume this was back in June when it was a 45 all draw? Missed this one as we were on holiday so I can't comment on the racing except that judging by the updates site you are probably right about there being little passing that night. However, you can't say 'it hasn't improved much' after watching one match this season as that's rather unfair. I go to 99% of the meetings and know that the racing has definitely improved following the track alterations. Just a shame the previous promoter was too stubborn to implement them earlier and lost a lot of fans who have never returned. -

Well, as someone who has been to every match this season and 2016, except two when we were on holiday (since they dropped the dog ban) I can guarantee the racing is a whole lot better than it used to be. My husband went from the beginning and 9 times out of 10 would come home moaning about the lack of passing, so much so that he gave up completely in 2015 and didn't go all season. Since the bends have both been widened the racing is no different to any other track ~ some brilliant, some good and some processional races. It was rather slick yesterday but probably prepared with rain in mind, which duly arrived during heat 13. -

Yes, we enjoyed that although somewhat surprised at the score as Coventry looked much stronger on paper. Lions were ahead 41-28 after 11 heats but then were unlucky with 2 engine failures which closed the gap up a bit. Thanks to everyone involved in organising this meeting and to all the riders. Shame there was a delay because of the rain as it meant having to leave half way through the British Youth Championship due to the 4 hour limit in the car park. Not sure if we made it out in the nick of time but I suppose we'll find out soon enough.
