Norway GP Predictions
Gemini replied to scottymelloty's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Nothing new there then. I really like TR and think he is a great rider, sporting and an excellent ambassador for the sport. I'd plump for him but it would be nice to have someone new this year. That's my only reason and a poor one I know. So between the Terrible Twins I'll go for Crump because I can't remember him making so many reckless moves on his fellow riders that Pedersen does. -
Norway GP Predictions
Gemini replied to scottymelloty's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well if all goes to plan it should be a pretty good track, banked and very fast. Let's hope it works out like that as the riders deserve a decent racing strip for the deciding GP. I can't believe I'm saying this but I hope Crump wins, but only because I prefer him to Pedersen. I think Nicki will definitely be World Champion at some point but I hope it isn't this season. -

Correct again frigbo. Do you know anything else about Chris, who he used to ride for etc. as I'd like to add a few notes when I make my new scrapbook. My kids are going to love me - more "rubbish" to sort out when I kick the bucket. It rings a bell that he rode for Long Eaton at one point but I'm probably completely wrong as usual. -

Correct frigbo. No it's not Tiddler, but you have got the right surname grachan. It's Pete Smith. Thanks Norbold. I now know it is Bill Andrew at the back and just to prove there was passing in those days Harrfeldt in third place came through to win. ;-) Unfortunately I don't think we will solve this one because I have no idea as it doesn't say on the back of the photo. :-( -

Surname correct, but you've not got the first name yet. -

Anyone going to name the Poole rider in first place? If you think Harrfeldt looks uncomfortable what about him?! Think I had better give a couple of clues as to the identity of No's 14 and 56. No 14 has a popular Welsh surname and No 56 has the same surname as a regular contributor to our forum. ;-) -
Goodness! I thought I went back a long way, but I think you must beat me. Are you sure you haven't made these up? The only one I've heard of is Tip Mills, which probably means he has ridden for Leicester at some point.

Okay, okay. I feel utterly stupid. The problem is I've got 54 years of Speedway statistics somewhere in my head and it's hard sometimes (well, most of the time) to dig out the appropriate information from dying brain cells.

I wish this photo was in colour! It would make things a lot easier. Working it out by your strategy I would say that Brian Leonard is in blue because the West Ham rider is Sverre Harrfeldt. I've only got the name of the Poole rider in front so it would be nice to know who is in last place. Thanks WATigerman for spotting my deliberate mistake. I have altered it now. Frigbo I have only got one rider named and that's the one who's fallen. It says D. May so I presume Richard is his Sunday best posh name instead of Dick. ;-) .. No, sorry Falcace. I don't think anyone will get this and I can't give a clue because I don't know who he rode for. :? -

Wey Hey!! At last - success. It's not Geoff Pusey though on No. 56. -

WATigerman.... Is the fallen rider in 52 (1) Bernie Leigh; or (2) Richard Greer ? Sorry - No. Gonna give up on no. 54 after a last guess of Geoff Pusey - someone please put me out of my misery on this one. I can't believe you gave up on this as there were only two brothers left! But it's given me a laugh anyway. -

No. 56. Yes, it's tough. Good though isn't it? Interesting details about his bike too, but sorry, no it's not Gary Middleton or Brian Collins. :-( Phew! That was close...... -

You're probably right with Barry Thomas. Unfortunately I've only got the name of the rider crashing. 56 - not Frank Auffret. Don't think anyone will guess this. Where's Steve when you need him? He has quite distictive looking leathers. Correct. Ah... Sorry Norbold - just missed it by two minutes. :-( -

Looks like him doesn't it? I think this is too far back for you grachan - you probably weren't even born. -

Go on then - you can't leave it at that! I presume Ray Wickett was the equivalent in his day of Sav Clouting? -

Keep going through the team CHK then you can tell me if I've got the correct rider by his style (hopefully!) ;-) You have mentioned him in the West Ham team, but I'm not sure if he ever rode for Poole so is the rider in White. I only have 3 names. :? -

The problem being that I don't have the name of the rider in the white helmet, just the first three which is a shame. Still on No. 63 wouldn't there be a dog track at Oxford though so the crowd would not be so close to the Speedway track? -

I'm not now I have a bit more information about the team! ;-) Yes, it is Brian Leonard, but the other West Ham rider (if my caption is right) is not Stan Stevens. I am impressed Steve. No. 59 was pretty easy though because it does say Briggo on his leathers. If you mean picture 60 then it is definitely West Ham because they are at home to Poole. Doesn't anyone recognise that tall Pirate chappie? Also what about No 63 - could it be The Firs, Norwich? Strange how that section of the crowd seems to be predominently male, not like nowadays when a lot of females attend. -

Did he ride for West Ham in 1965? I think that is the correct year so all we need to do now is find out who was in the team that year. :? .. Any idea? If you could list the team then I'll know if a certain rider I have on the back of the photo rode for Poole or West Ham, which will help decide if it is Stan or not. -

Grachan.... 53 is Tony Briggs. Yes. Okay - tell me how you knew that! Have you been looking at that book again? ;-) 55 - Steve Gresham. Yes. 57 - Martin Ashby. Yes. Don't know 63 either, but I love the picture. Any idea what stadium that is? They're certainly close to the riders! I'm wondering if it is Norwich but only because the rider in gate one looks like Billy Bales. Not much of a reason really! I agree it's a great photo and shows the difference between the starting techniques of the riders in gates one and two. Custom House Kid..... 62 Ken Mckinley Yes. 60 Try West Ham G Barclay, Stan the Man Stevens* Poole Bill Andrews, Bruce Cribb No, but as I've only got the names of 3 riders and there are 4 on the photo possibly one could be right. I couldn't help noticing that the Poole rider in yellow/black looks very tall and almost too big for his bike. -
Not predictable Shazzy. I would prefer to say reliable.

Shazzybird will remember as this has been mentioned before. Watch this space for her reply.
