Joanne - try a bit of something mixed with arsenic.
-
I'll let you off because it was late and you must have been tired.
-
Look you two, it's no good I'm going to have to step in here!21st CH....Joanne is a happily married mother of two teenagers who are not Speedway fans and neither is her husband. Joanne...he sounds a great guy. I mean anyone who goes to Wolverhampton every week just to support the visiting team has got to be okay. She's going on her own, you're reluctant to go on your own so can't the two of you get together (in the nicest possible way) just for this meeting? I've met Joanne several times and she is very nice and definitely won't bite. I just think she has got tremendous guts going to these meetings on her own, although Pawprint is always available of course if she wants to do a spot of smuggling again.

IF, and it is a very big if, Leicester ever returned I'm sure I would enjoy supporting them and the Bees as well. I was talking to someone at the Show yesterday who is (or perhaps was now!) a member of the group trying to get Leicester back and he says it will never happen. :-( To answer your question though - years ago I used to go to Coventry and Long Eaton on a poxy Honda 50 so I'm sure I could manage it now in the comfort of a nice car on these new fangled things called motorways. (I love motorways.) Kevin..Clever answer.
-
I very much doubt it with the council not on the side of Speedway. There is more chance of Long Eaton returning. I'd be a bit worried about your son using an ex Graham Plant bike as well as his machinery was always rubbish. Showed so much potential when he first started - shame he never seemed to really achieve a great deal. My husband always reckoned he would be a World Champion one day.

Hey, you are working well today Fd. Time to get your Joker avatar back me thinks.
-
You unfortunately know from experience last year, Sloop.
-
Don't worry. No-one has had any yet. Start getting concerned at the end of May.
-
... Mmmmm...Is there a forum romance going on here that I have missed? Sounds interesting and if I was Cilla Black I might be saving up for a hat now.
-
Okay then - forget it. I was only using this thread because it was guessing a middle name and I didn't want to start a new one just for that. Sort of went with the flow, but never mind.
-
Sorry for the confusion M.L. What I meant was no details of the time or date of the funeral had been released by Ken's family in our local paper so I presumed it would just be for relatives and friends. However, today (or yesterday now) the funeral details were given. Thank you hurriken for adding your thoughts and our hearts go out to you at this sad time.
-
Come on now - no cheating please. :-o
-
Nothing to do with Speedway, but if anyone wants to have a guess at ex Goalie Bob Wilson's middle name it begins with P. Bet this won't last as long as Kevin's.
-
And your Dad has summed Ken up perfectly. Several people have added their thoughts of Ken in the Leicester Mercury - his wife, sons and daughter etc. but no details of his funeral have been released so obviously this will be for relatives and friends only.

The Belle Vue v Halifax match at Hyde Road in the 80's was pretty memorable, unfortunately mostly for the crash between Mick McKeon and Mike Lohmann. That's the first time I had seen a rider deliberately go after another with the obvious intent of causing him to crash. Can't remember which one it was but he didn't like what the other rider had done on one bend so went hell for leather after him and took him out into the fence on the next. Trouble was he also badly injured himself too. Anyone from Belle Vue remember this?
-
Oh good. I will look out for you on that television programme Airline. ;-)
-
No details of Ken's funeral in the 'paper, just an article about his career, but bear with me and I will find out when someone who should know gets home from work. Have now found out and the funeral will be next Thursday 20th February, at Gilroes Crematorium, Leicester, at 10.15 am. No flowers by request, but donations if wished to the British Heart Foundation.
-
Yes, will do that. There have been no details up to now, but I don't think Ken had any family living in Leicester did he? Will post as soon as I receive my newspaper.
-
Nothing in the Leicester Mercury again tonight so I have just 'phoned the Sports Editor and he says there will be an article about Ken in the paper tomorrow. Glad to hear this because he deserves a mention. There are still lots of Speedway fans in Leicester even if we don't have our own track any more. :-(

How do you spell Knutson in as in Bjorn. Correctly?

You have to be sure of your facts with Norbold lurking around this forum Jim. -
I'm very sad to hear that Norbold. I know he has been ill over the past few years, but I thought he had recovered okay after his last hospital stay. So many happy memories of his days riding for the Hunters. R.I.P Ken.
-
I'll remember that for the future - thanks Lioness. It must be correct because I would imagine that's how Penegan would send out copies of the Speedway Star to subscribers, otherwise they would have gone bankrupt by now. :?
-
I only sent one copy last week and it cost 57p, so 52 should come to errr....something like £29 postage.
-
Bah! I have just read several pages all about Johnnie Hoskins and it doesn't say! How about Sigmund, Sydney or Showtime? Okay, I am going to go quietly away now. Where's Norbold - I bet he will know.
