Good idea! Sounds like Rick has some very interesting stories to tell. Glad everything has worked out for you since you quit Speedway in Britain.

Rick looks a bit tired on this photo. .... http://community.webshots.com/photo/109618...109621427VLXpeq
  3. Ross...Can confirm that this is indeed THE Rick Miller. (My email has bounced back so I couldn't let you know direct.) Welcome back Rick, but 4 posts since 2003? Not enough! Please let us all know how you are getting on these days. Are you still doing the film stunt work?
  4. Diamond? That's 60 years isn't it? Wouldn't stand for that Jo.
  5. Don't start worrying until June 10th. I ordered mine on the internet and was told that tickets may not be received until 5-7 days before the event and not to contact them unless they have not arrived 5 days before so plenty of time yet.
  6. Great photos of Middlo. Now I know why young people are always in hysterics when looking at photos of us when we were younger.

    History

tigerdave....This is just the general discussions area and you will probably be better off posting this in the Years Gone By section where all us old cronies hang out. Shame our No. 1 forum historian has just gone on holiday. Welcome to the forum by the way. Snap Cornishman! I shouldn't have taken so long typing this.
  8. Mine came today too, thanks. Could you make sure my address says Braunstone Town though and not Branistone please? (I sent you an email a while ago.) The mag. has arrived safely so far but I don't want to give the post office any chances of losing it.
  9. I've got an even better idea. Being as everyone is being advised to either start at the bottom and work their way up, the middle up and down, or 2/5ths of the way up and down, why not just start at the top and be different.
  10. Got to be b] then. I'll ignore anything Kevin says in future.
  11. Thank you Craig. Our hearts go out to you at this sad time and I hope it is of some comfort to know that a lot of people are thinking about you all. Take care.
  12. At least I've learnt a bit about when to use "an" and "a", although even that advice seems contradictory. I blame Kevin for saying it's an hotel. "We are going to book an hotel for the weekend." "We are going to book a hotel for the weekend." Just practising....
  13. Phew! That's only two I've upset then. Think I've managed to pacify Addy.
  14. I'm gutted. Me and the dog won't be going either.
  15. I was going to ask how old he was but now I know - almost four years younger than me - so an awful shock for his family and friends. I saw him at the Leicester Reunion in November last year and he looked pretty fit then. It was Bruce Forrester who unfortunately was having some health problems. I took this photo of Alan and Bruce. R.I.P Alan. http://community.webshots.com/photo/243463...260799911zRCbTe
  16. Now how am I going to get out of this one? Bit tricky. Best not to even try as the hole will get even bigger.
  17. Oh. Dear! I never thought you would look in here Addy. Much too young and beautiful for Years Gone By. Not surprised by Kevin's appearance though. Going by the explanation overleaf you've got to make sure you drop the "H" Kev. so as long as you say an otel you are correct. I'm getting the ang of this now.
  18. I don't throw anything away either but I'm just stupid. Every cupboard and drawer in the house is full, the attic is at bursting point, the wardrobes are full and there is more stuff in the house now than there ever was when the children lived here. Incidentally, I was just wondering when one uses "a" and when "an" in front of words beginning with H? I noticed you used "I'm a historian." which is obviously correct, but when using the word honour it is "an honour." Hotel is "a hotel." Still with me? So is there an easy way of knowing which to use apart from one or the other just "sounding right"?
  19. That's a shame because if you can "get your foot in the door" so to speak and get a hotel or bed & breakfast they will normally let you book for the following year. Ours is The Townhouse on Cathedral Road and this will be the fourth year we've stayed there. Brilliant place and they allow our dog as well.
  20. Some things on this planet never change then, global warming or not. I do hope Addy doesn't see this or I am going to be in big trouble. Nice story Norbold. Thanks.
  21. Coventry & Peterborough often had Easter Monday meetings against each other. Around 11.30 am at The Showground and then 7.30pm at Brandon. I suppose that won't happen any more though as it will no doubt be Greyhound Racing at Coventry. Now don't ask me any other details - like when it happened - I just know it did because I was there. One by one the riders got excluded by referee Geoff Dalby, at Brandon, until just Rick Miller was left to ride on his own. Rick decided to pop a few wheelies and was promptly excluded for "not making a bona-fide attempt to race." So 0 - 0 all round.
  22. Brilliant choice there Kevin. Second in line for me would be Colin Pratt.
  23. Thank you. I have now added the riders names.
  24. I think you could be right about that. I have got a couple of photos on my webshots album from Birmingham Wheels, taken in 1985. Heaven knows who the riders are though. As you can see there is plenty of dust being kicked up. If you are interested in any more look at the rest of the album "More Speedway photos" as there are also some from Perry Barr. http://community.webshots.com/photo/246145...246246801nZTsAP http://community.webshots.com/photo/246145...246246386Hsaaum
