  1. We had the first - and I think the only - rider to shove the referee in the bath. I bet there are a few riders who would love to do that, but nowadays I suppose they would end up in court.
  2. You should be able to buy it at Brandon on Friday.
  3. I don't know if you would be interested in looking at my photos of Leicester? http://community.webshots.com/album/243463008ubFuHQ As you will see houses were built on the site about five years after closure. There are also a couple from Birmingham Wheels Project, Bordesley Green and others from Perry Barr....here..... http://community.webshots.com/album/246145659btqrKB
  4. Thanks Grassergirl. I thought it was near the park (Sophia Gardens) but it's strange it isn't in the camp-site book or on the internet.

Just make sure you buy the next issue of the Backtrack magazine and you'll be able to read everything you need to know about Rick. And I'm not on commission.
  6. I suppose Charles Ochiltree should be classed as one of the sports greatest promoters, but I find it very hard to be so charitable in view of the fact he shut Leicester down and sold the land for housing.

Ross...You are beginning to sound like a stalker. Leave him alone.
  8. Yes, I think we were amongst a group of rather stunned Coventry fans. Although Lee rode for us we certainly didn't condone that move he pulled on everyone's favourite Mark Loram.
  9. Shazzy doesn't boo anyone. Like me she just quietly remembers injustices.
  10. I'm sure there was a campsite at or near Sophia Gardens, but I've just checked and it says there are no campsites in Cardiff at all, so you're probably best to wait for an answer from Grassergirl. Yes, you will be very lucky to get a hotel/b&b now as most are already booked up, but you never know if you ring around you might just get one. Failing that you'll have to try further afield. I know some people are staying at a caravan for the weekend near Porthcawl and there's also Newport of course. Good luck.

    Belle Vue

I hope when you can that you watch out for any subsidence as I heard a rumour there was a bloody great big hole dug in that road a couple of years ago. ...
  12. It says in the book Rest of the World - as against the U.K. and Europe - airmail for 6 issues = £30. Credit card hotline no. 01708 379 079. The website address is www.retro-speedway.com Don't know if that's any help, but I tried.

On it's way. Hope he hasn't changed it since I last contacted him.

    Belle Vue

Keith may be able to help as he seems to be collecting Belle Vue home & away programmes from 1928 on. From another thread - I am trying to collect every Belle Vue programme home and away from 1928-present and although I am doing quite well with the pre-war programmes (about 260 so far) ...... If he doesn't see this, I've got his email address if you would like to contact him?
  15. Too much noise after I've gone to bed and I'll set Pawprint on you.

    Old Tracks

October 1983 to be exact. I'll believe Leicester have a new track when I'm standing on the terraces with my old Red/Yellow scarf on.
  17. Should be safe then in our quiet little hotel in a quiet street. ....

That's brilliant news. Thanks for sorting that out and to Rick for agreeing to be interviewed.

Wow! I didn't realise Speedway had been running that long at Brandon. Looks like we have scared Rick off and I'm not surprised. Being as there are so many questions being fired at him perhaps he will take up the offer of an interview for the Backtrack magazine. I hope so.
  20. Just one little thought to add. I find it quite amazing that I can remember Don Potter riding for the Lions, considering by the looks of the statistics he only rode in six meetings. I can even remember what he looked like as well, which is some sort of record in itself considering my difficulty recognising faces.
  21. Yes Norbold will know, but until he gets back from holiday I hope this bit of information about him will help as I remember him riding for Leicester in 1954. This is taken from Alan Jones book - Speedway in Leicester, the Hunters Era. Don Potter began his career at Fleetwood and then moved onto Liverpool before travelling south to ride for Stoke in 1953 where he became a big scorer for the Potteries club. Don was on the brink of heat leader status at Leicester until a crash in July sidelined him. He returned to his Blackpool home to recuperate from his injuries and whilst recovering announced his retirement.
  22. Try sticking it in here and see if that's any help. http://www.theaa.com/travelwatch/planner_main.jsp
