That's the opinion of a Poole fan though and not everyone would agree. Astra1 for example posts (in the right section!) "At least you will be able to see the racing at Reading. when i went to Poole for the WTC i couldn`t see a thing. we were stood on the 1st bend and by the time the stadium had filled up i was swamped by people pushing to get to the front and i had to make do with catching a glimpse of the riders helmet covers as they went past."

Reading Host World Cup?
Gemini replied to Rema & Ben's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Pity it can't be held at Coventry then everyone would be able to see okay as the stadium holds 20,000 or more. But I suppose the dogs have priority these days. -
Cardiff Rooms Available
Gemini replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Probably not down, but remaining steady. For everyone who has said they're not going there are others who are branching out to Cardiff for the first time. I know of at least four newcomers this year myself. I'm sorry Star Lady is no longer going because of the Travel Inn price rise, but was wondering how much this works out to for each person? Is it two sharing a room or more? Perhaps it's not so extortionate when broken down. As for the tatty room I think you should have complained if you weren't satisfied. Must admit we have always stayed in Travel Lodges rather than the Inn's because they allow the dog/s and the rooms have always been very nice and clean with good furnishings. -
Please no!! I hate statistics and am not the slightest bit interested in them. If I had known there would be loads of "facts & figures" then I wouldn't have bought the book. It was brilliant and thanks for the chance to have a little insight into Simon's life & family, as well as his speedway/longtrack career. Great stuff.

Another vote in favour of keeping the G.P. at the Millenium Stadium. This must surely be a record - so many agreeing with Steve Shovlar.

So you are saying SCB is wrong? Hope he's not thrown his T-Shirt away. -
That tray equals something you'd clean the toilet with to me.

World Cup To Be Staged At Reading
Gemini replied to scabby3's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What's the scenery like round Reading? Any chance of lying on the beach beforehand, going for a boat trip or relaxing whilst looking at fantastic views across a harbour? ..... -

Cardiff Seating Plan?
Gemini replied to Helmut Schtuck's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Helmut....It isn't very clear I agree. Your best bet is to go through the motions as if you are going to order the tickets at the price you intend to pay, then look at the seating plan to see where they are. For instance I've just checked £35 and they seem to be for the L sections in the lower tier. Ticket price £29 - there are a lot of different seats in the higher tier around the stadium, U sections. I'm not sure, but if looks like the popular middle tier seats are already sold out in a lot of areas. If you experiment and look at the seating plan you will be able to hopefully get the tickets you want so you then just carry on and order them. Hope I've not confused you even more but no-one had answered your query so I thought I'd try to help. -
B S I Get It Right
Gemini replied to Mr Snackette's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think it's a bad idea as well. Right at the end of a Bank Holiday week when a lot of people will be away and have to cut short their holiday to get to Cardiff. -
Thank you. I love a happy and successful ending to a mystery. Here is the cutting I was referring to and now I know that it is indeed the Howard Cole I will add him to my scrapbook. http://community.webshots.com/photo/153283...22241446HDcPZr# I wonder who the other rider is?
-
Thanks for the info. so far. If this is indeed the Howard Cole then I know he went on to have a very good career in speedway, but I'm a bit confused about the George bit? Was that his first name? Where's Norbold when I need him?
-
I've come across an old newspaper cutting about a George Cole, aged 10, who rode a scaled down speedway bike with a genuine racing engine in the frame. He also acted as mascot for Wolverhampton at their Brayfield track. Not sure what year this would be - possibly sometime in the 50's - but perhaps the mention of Wolves riding at Brayfield might give a clue? I was wondering if George Cole, whoever he was, ever made it to being a speedway rider and would he have been any relation to Howard Cole, aka Kid Bodie? Anyone know anything about him?

Is that supposed to be a compliment?

British Speedway Grand Prix
Gemini replied to Waspie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Bit further away next year it seems. We are in N4, same as before, which is nearer the 1st bend. I think N1 is towards the second bend? -
Received my copy today. Thanks Tony. It looks brilliant and I look forward to reading it when I can prise it off my husband. Great to know there will be a book about Kenny Carter coming out next May as well. Will have to get my name down for that one.

British Speedway Grand Prix
Gemini replied to Waspie's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Talking to yourself again Joanne? Yes, £29 are the cheapest tickets. You can't beat the middle tier on the 1st bend at that price and if you want to be there you should definitely be thinking about purchasing your tickets soon before they sell out. -
I went to one of those as well. Long Eaton 65 - Middlesbrough 0 because they packed up and went home. How boring is it watching two riders going round for a 5 - 0 in every race!
-
Well, put it this way. If he wore a red suit on Christmas Eve he would be a dead ringer for Father Christmas.

Bydgoszcz Or Wroclaw?
Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
That might just sway it towards Wroclaw now. -
OR....the race at Coventry in the 80's (?) which was re-run 3 times with a rider excluded each time, leaving just Rick Miller. He was then excluded by referee Geoff Dalby for not making a bona fide attempt to race because he was entertaining the fans popping wheelies on his way round. Race result 0 - 0. I shouldn't think that happens very often. You could probably get more details from the man himself as he is a member of the forum......unless Ross has scared him off.

Bit like Peterborough then.

Must make watching the speedway very difficult.
