My friend & his Polish partner went on a 5 day trip to Bydgoszcz for the first time, having previously gone to Cardiff in 2005 & 6, also Wroclaw this year, although he is not a speedway fan generally. Well, I did warn him beforehand to watch where he stood at Bydgoszcz! Apparently, however, there was a bit of a problem with his tickets booked through the travel agent and he ended up not having any. He decided to take a chance and buy them when he got there so he ended up in what he said was the "Bear Pit." Quite an eye opener it seems as there were a lot of riot police around in full gear. Seems they were needed too because there were several fights. He said the fans are "different" over there. In England there would probably be a lot of posturing and "handbags at dawn" but there they got stuck in straightaway - no messing. Anyway, he still enjoyed it and plans to go back again next year, plus adding Sweden to the itinerary as well. He even got to chat with Neil Middleditch at the hotel, although he didn't know at the time who he was.

I'm not into averages & statistics so I'm not sure if Scott's has gone up or down this season (without checking) but it seems to me as if he has been beaten by a lot of the opposition number one's at Brandon this season and has been nowhere near as consistant as he was in 2005. Wholesale clearout needed (including Havelock!) and a re-think of his plans for next season.

I agree! Watch the meeting again on video and it's not that good, apart from the races you mention. The atmosphere was though and the sheer volume of supporters in the stadium that night is probably the reason why that final is looked upon as one of the best by so many people.

Umbrella, rain coat & wellingtons might be a good idea.

Sounds about right miro. When he joined Leicester he only had 6 months experience of speedway behind him. Shame he only rode in Britain for one season. I don't suppose anyone has a photo of him do they? From what I remember he had rather a strange looking face and certainly wouldn't have been chosen for a Mr Handsome competition, unlike some of the other past & present charismatic Americans.

Who I understand was the first American to appear in the British League in 1969 when he joined Leicester. (If this is wrong information blame Alan Jones. Sadly Dewayne lost his life 6 years later in a track accident at Ascot Park in California.

Made it more interesting though. It was quite funny when he kept on about Lee Richardson shooting from the tapes and being in first place in one race and then he went through the riders in the other positions and said something like "and at the back is err.....Lee Richardson." Trying to correct his mistake he then went on to say something about Lee going from 4th to first. Completely wrong Tony on both counts. Lee was at the back the whole time. I'm pretty sure he also said it was Lee Richardson in the box talking to the referee when the camera showed it was actually Nicki Pedersen on the phone. I think the time is nearly here for the men in white coats to arrive to take away their next patient. But obviously not painful enough to stop him adjusting "things" on camera when talking to Hans in the pits. Sorry but when the racing is a bit boring I tend to notice these things.

Programmes haven't been mentioned this time so presumably not. Mind you it doesn't affect me because I didn't get one last year either, having the cheapest £13 tickets.

Awful shame about Scotty but he would have been silly to have tried to ride. I got a phone call yesterday (for the latest news on Scott) from 6 friends waiting at East Midlands Airport for their flight to Prague. To say they were disappointed is an understatement.

One thing struck me about McGowan - on T.V. he was quite happy to be interviewed without the seemingly obligatory baseball cap. What is it with all the riders and these caps? Even Scott Nicholls had one shoved on his head (the wrong way round) when he was making a protest to the ref.
