Cardiff Attendance
Gemini replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It seems to me reading the forum that there are quite a lot of people paying their first visit to Cardiff this year, so they will counteract all those not going who normally do. I reckon the attendance will be about the same as 2006. I doubt if the weather will have anything to do with it but it definitely won't be the same walking round in the rain when we normally have glorious sunshine. -
A friendly warning because the English ban doesn't come in until Sunday?
-
Hope it's dried out by then.

That sounds like it's very near us. We are in row 3.....so behave or I'll take another photo.

Now listen 'ere! We don't all like heavy metal, rap, rock or some of the other modern rubbish that passes for music nowadays. I liked the McDonald Brothers on the X Factor - they reminded me of the Everley Brothers from years ago. I also liked Brenda and thought she had a good voice, but I will agree with The Concrete Cowboy about the scouse singing dwarf. Anyway, he needn't worry because he's not going. Edit...to make it clear I meant T.C.C. is not going not the singing dwarf. Afraid he's still entertaining us. -
I'd give it until Wednesday and then really started panicking! I'm sure someone else will advise you better than me, but I think if you phone up it will be sorted out and you can pick the tickets up in Cardiff on the day. Or alternatively if you ordered on line isn't there a "track your tickets section" where you can see if they've actually been sent yet?

Berwick Anniversary Meeting
Gemini replied to Subedei's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
I should say that's pretty definite judging by a previous post above yours. The effort in bringing together sponsors , riders, riders of the past, track preparation, programme, etc., all gone to waste. Was quite sad reading through the programme at home, with all the greats of the club and the great history, to have it all spoiled by the bloody rain. Can't but feel for all the guys who had put all the work into this... Anyone know if it will be restaged? Damn annoying isn't it after all the effort put in? When will this rain ever stop?! -
Of course my memory being what it is I forgot all about the Leicester reunion in November 2004 and that is when I last saw Norman Hunter and took this photo of him, Bruce Forrester/wife Linda. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2745550550047007148zerUJj

I was going to post that this morning but then I realised half way through that I was thinking of Norman Hunter. I last saw him about 8 years ago when he delivered a bouncy castle for my granddaughter's birthday and my husband recognised him. It's amazing how these speedway riders get around because it seems every one that is mentioned has at some point ridden for Leicester.

I'll change my quote I think....."as long as it isn't Chico or Ray Quinn I won't mind." I couldn't stand him on the X Factor either. He reminded me of that film star in "Titanic" whatever his name is. Don't like him either......and I don't like swing. Brenda has a good voice and I quite like the McDonald Brothers as well - even though I seem to be in a minority on here. Still, as someone has already said we will be there for the speedway so anything else is a bonus....I think. -
Only a bit of the tickets though - mainly it's just the address. Looks like any other junk mail so I doubt if anyone would want to steal them. In any case who in their right mind, who is not a speedway fan, would be interested in travelling all the way to Cardiff with stolen tickets and end up being kicked out of their seats.

You could always try the park n' ride on the way out to Cardiff Bay. We stayed there in 2001 in the camper van and had no problems. I don't know what it's like now as regards actually getting a bus - perhaps they put more on now - but we had to walk and it's about a mile. Well, it felt like it anyway so if you can manage to walk in a straight line back to your van after the meeting then it should be the ideal place.
-
I know how you feel. Houses were built on the site of the Leicester Stadium as well and I try to keep away from the area.
-
But you're not giving up are you? If at first you don't succeed, try, try again....or something like that.

I actually like C.J. and like him even more since I found out he is a teetotal vegetarian. At least he seems human and gets some questions wrong, which is why he gets picked so often by the contestants. I like Judith and Chris too, but am not too keen on know-it-all Kevin and smug Daphne. It makes me laugh when she is vigorously shaking her head at an Egghead's answer but it turns out to be correct. Can't wait to see the forum team in action......if or when they get accepted.

As long as it's not Chico I don't mind who it is. -
Has that house across the road fell down yet? I also used to love going to Cradley and sitting on that little wall to watch the racing - think it was near the 4th bend. Mind you we always used to get lost somewhere along the way from Leicester to Cradley. I reckon there must have been lots of different ways to get to the track and we used them all at some point.
-
I guess that's what he was referring to. The one connected to hunting was The Post Horn Gallop. It used to be played at the start of the meeting but I don't know if the track staff marched out to it. Would have to be at a quick pace if they did.
-
How about March of the Gladiators then? I don't know the tune myself but an ex-Leicester fan suggested it.
-
You can pay on the day but there will probably only be the upper tier left I should think.
-
Oh. It's back to the drawing board then.
-
Oh yes they can! I thought we had decided it was Imperial Echos.
-
Is that all - just the one season? I didn't realise that as he is one of the riders I remember from the old Hunters days. I have an old black/white photo of Harry with a battered old van and his speedway bike, taken en route somewhere. Must have been when he was riding for Leicester so I'll have to look for it in my 1962 album.

That's strange. It's mine too. I like this BOBBATH chappie. He keeps starting threads about old riders and bringing back so many memories. Bryan Elliott - he was another one of my favourites, along with Joe Bowkis, Johnnie Carpenter, Len Williams etc. Bryan Elliott does indeed reside in Australia but his sister was at the Leicester reunion in 2004. Edit..... BOBBATH....you aren't the person who bought my 1949 Leicester badge last year (on ebay) were you because it went to Canada? I was sad to let it go - and other items - but needed the money for the dog's vet bills. She's still going strong on daily glucosamine tablets.
