Georgie Thompson Hosts Race Off & Final
Gemini replied to Rob B's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I hope they don't! At the first flash of red Scott might pull up. .. -
I'd like to have seen the draw. Sky should have filmed this and shown it before the meeting started to prove it's all above board.

Race Off Leszno Poland Thursday 19 Juli
Gemini replied to tarabanko's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Oh god. Have Poole already snapped him up? Brilliant prospect and I was very impressed with his riding. He looks to be even better than Rory Schlein.....and I can say that because Sandie is away at the moment. -

Hope it's Nigel and I don't care how often he bangs on about different tracks or who rides for who as someone new to speedway might just be watching. I also liked Georgie Thompson, although I had never heard of her before. I didn't find her voice irritating at all like some apparently and I am very particular about voices.....that's why I don't like listening to a Cockney. (That will get Norbold on here!) I thought she sounded a bit like Julia Bradbury when she used to present speedway on channel 4. -
No need to post really because that says it all for me...except the bit about your pocket. Anyone but the Danes will do for me, but of course hoping for Team G.B.

And I bet the Collins brothers were at the head of the queue. Wasn't this the meeting where they tried to team ride to keep Carter behind in one race but he passed both of them? Pity there aren't more English riders around now like Kenny, willing to get stuck in on a wet track. Most these days take one look and give up before they start. Edit....you've just answered my question SuzieQ. Posted at same time. Ah....that explains where that whinger Chris gets it from whenever the track is a bit wet.

Race Off Leszno Poland Thursday 19 Juli
Gemini replied to tarabanko's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I reckon you need a break from speedway if you thought it was boring tonight. Some brilliant racing for the majority of the time and only a very few heats were processional. Let's hope it is as good on Saturday. COME ON ENGLAND. -

Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I want Team G.B. to win as well but being realistic I don't think there is much chance. I'm with Scott on this one, erring on the negative side, as there's not much point in saying you're going to win when the odds are against it. Say top three and it could mean anything from 1st to 3rd. Here's hoping it will be 1st because I'm delaying our holiday so I can watch the final. -

Perhaps he's being realistic? Not much point him saying G.B. will win as they haven't a cat in hell's chance and I'm sure he knows that. -

It would only have come through as a Ford and the registration number because that's all I wrote down, thinking I would remember the model. I know it began with the letter T and had an X at the end. Looks like I will be searching the internet tomorrow for all models of Ford cars. edit..... I've just had a quick look and the mystery is solved. It was a Titanium X. Nice car - daft driver leaving the window open. -

Bit strange that Sky started at 7pm but the parade wasn't due to begin until 7.30pm. No wonder it ran over. -

Task for today - write out 1,000 lines. I must not be such a pessimist. Must admit Mr Shovlar and I were wrong (and others) but I'm quite happy to have been proved wrong and there was a brilliant crowd. Serves me right for leaving Leicester at my usual time for a league match so the car park was pretty chaotic when I eventually arrived at 6.50pm. The queue to get in was horrendous but after failing to get in at my usual entrance (because Molly freaks out at turnstiles) I walked straight up to buy a ticket without joining the long queue. There was just one man in front of me. Heaven knows why others weren't going through this section and I fully expected to be pounced on for jumping the queue but nothing happened. Strange. Just one thing that's bugging me at the moment - does anyone know the name of a Ford car beginning with T? I noticed this one had the driver's window half down so reported it to the office and it was later mentioned over the tannoy. I wrote the number plate down but thought I would remember what the car was. By the time I had got into the stadium I had completely forgotten. Nice car, probably a 2 litre and had an X at the end of the model name. -
Track Curator For Tomorrow?
Gemini replied to Sir Jasper's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Is that where he currently works? If so it speaks for itself as I've never heard so many moans about the Belle Vue track as this year. Who's idea was it to bring him back to Coventry? -
Track Curator For Tomorrow?
Gemini replied to Sir Jasper's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Worth repeating this quote because it sums up what most of the Coventry fans think and we should know because we've had Colin prepare the track in the past. Might be worth getting the opinion of the Swindon fans as well as he was track curator there too. Perhaps we are all worrying over nothing, but here's hoping for the normal preparation tonight and some good racing to make up for the boring stuff we had to endure on Saturday. -
Track Curator For Tomorrow?
Gemini replied to Sir Jasper's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Not Colin Meredith. Heaven help the Brandon track, especially if Ole is going to be involved tomorrow as well. I thought the guy from Wolverhampton always prepared our track and it has certainly been really good for the past couple of years. -

My thoughts as well Steve. It will be interesting to see how many do actually turn up but judging by how many Bees fans are not even bothering to go, and those living further away who can't because of work commitments, it's not looking good. I hope I'm wrong as well but looking on the bright side at least it might mean there will be room for me in my usual place. -

So why should we allow it here? We have got a perfectly good trackman and staff at Coventry so why should Ole be allowed to stick his nose in? I agree with S.S. lock him up for the night somewhere and lose the key. -

He's got some strange habits though - puts Nicki Pedersen to shame. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to pick your nose with the same hand whilst holding a mobile phone. Very clever stuff. Just a pity Steve Hone caught it on camera. -

I'll let you off as you're normally very sensible. Whereabouts do you stand at Coventry? Looks like I might be rather bored on Monday so I will probably be taking a walk round all night watching from different places. I'm sure there will be plenty of room to manoeuvre. Don't worry - I'm quite harmless and as long as you don't talk like SCB I'll no doubt even be able to understand what you say. -

I didn't know about the £33 either. That probably explains why 10 of the people I know aren't going...although they could have stood up all night for a change and only paid £22. Like 21st it will be interesting to see just how many fans turn up. I can't see the grandstand being anywhere near full; plenty of gaps I reckon but hopefully I will be wrong. You are right of course - not everything goes up over the years - but it's too depressing to talk about. I very much doubt it. There would be an uproar from the fans who have already paid the full price. -

You seem to have been unfortunate in your choice of meetings - presumably either Lakeside or Oxford - because there has been some brilliant racing at Brandon this year. It's worth the admission money alone to watch Chris Harris battle from the back. I take it you weren't there for the Poole match on Monday either? Missed a cracker then as well. It's not you who was considering taking his lad on Friday is it? If so - my advice is don't. -

Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Me neither, sorry, unless in comparision you are also going to quote the average wages for the years quoted because everything goes up over the years. Strewth I hope not! I think a fairer price would be about £17. It's probably not so bad paying out £22 if you are going alone and a wage earner, but take a partner with you who is not working and £44 is a lot of money to come out of one week's wages. Added to that, if you are a Coventry fan there was also a match on Monday and another on Friday so I don't blame those who are not going. -

I feel so much better now! As long as it's not Mr Sandhu losing the money I don't care. Serves 'em right for hiking the price up so much and I still think it's too high, no matter how many extra races there are. If it had been Denmark, Poland, Great Britiain and Australia in the final it would be different but this is just a qualifying round and by the looks of it not a very good one either. Still I'll be there with one of the dogs to keep me company. Presuming I can pay on the night as I haven't got a ticket? -

Gemini replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Well I think a lot of people are being put off by the high price for what will no doubt be pretty mediocre teams on display - apart from Great Britain of course Trouble is a poor attendance will probably put Mr Sandhu off using Coventry again.
