  1. Or in Nicki P's case drop his three highest scores to make it even more interesting.
  2. And breathe! I couldn't find a sentence to quote because it was rather a long one so I've just extracted this little bit to comment on. The problem with this idea is it would be too expensive for most fans who are already trying to cut out staying over in a hotel for the weekend so the attendance for the semi finals would be quite small wouldn't it? Or perhaps I have read your post wrongly?
  3. More go than touch I reckon. Did we not leave the stadium this year until getting on for 11pm? Doing the maths (and I can just about manage this sum) that makes it 9pm for a 5pm start. Of course there is always the option of missing the presentations and fireworks.
  4. Who cares? If it means me not getting back home again on Sunday until dawn is breaking then it's a good idea. I think our coach went back the "pretty way" on the return journey home.
  5. I know a lot of people have fond memories of Billy when he rode for Cradley but for me the best ever was when he rode with Greg at Coventry under the Exide sponsorship. Great to see them doing a double wheelie after yet another 5-1 for the Bees.
  6. Great to hear this news. Shame it couldn't have been held at Coventry though. I'm sure there will be a big crowd for Billy and there is so much more room at Brandon, whereas at Wolves everyone has to be squashed into the home straight area.
  7. Gosh this thread has been a bit confusing for an elderly mind to follow. Glad everything was sorted out in the end and that Jack Scott is getting on okay, also that Bluey is alive and well back home in Australia. I don't know if anyone is interested but I took this photo of Bluey (Eric) in 1965 but don't know whether it was at Edinburgh or Glasgow - probably Glasgow I think. Take note of the luxury style of travelling back then, complete with bike strapped on to the back of a car. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2752081620047007148VBPATs
  8. Oh god!! I'm getting worse. Just ignore me in future.
  9. My abiding memory of Rick Miller is the race at Coventry when he was the only rider left after the other 3 had been excluded and he himself was excluded by referee Geoff Dalby for "not making a bona fide effort to race." Bah!! Rick was only trying to entertain the crowd by popping wheelies. No harm done.
  10. As it looks like Allen Trump will be staying on for another year at Coventry and he sponsors Chris Harris, I wonder what will happen now? I can't see Chris moving to another team so it looks like it will be same as usual for the Bees with loads of Monday meetings. So much for getting back to some consistency and regular Friday night racing.
  11. If only.....if only I hadn't gone senile. It's no good asking me I'm afraid as I can't remember things from last week never mind 30/40 years ago. One thing I do remember though (only because I've got it on video somewhere) is another Leicester v Coventry match when Mark Courtney was leading Ole Olsen and on every lap he trailed his leg through a big puddle on the track so the water splashed over Ole. I don't think he was very pleased, especially as he didn't manage to beat Mark either. Hope you are keeping well Bee.
  12. I'm saying nothing 'cos I get into trouble for criticising riders who don't bother to acknowledge the fans. Perhaps there is just something about Coventry that makes them turn into miserable sods. Martin Rogers had the best idea and knew how to treat his supporters. If a Leicester rider won, or they got a 5-1, he used to stand by the pits gate and not let them in until they'd done a victory lap.
  13. Never mind Sandie. There are always the quizzes at Coventry to look forward to....as long as they're not cancelled as well.
  14. What a brilliant idea. Well done to the Eastbourne management. Hope everyone enjoys the day/evening.
  15. I was rather hoping you wouldn't. Welcome back to the forum Jim.
  16. Ah...Thomas the Border Collie. He's great isn't he? Pity mine don't show any interest in speedway but just go to sleep. I've not seen Thomas on Sky this season. Perhaps he's asking for appearance money now.
  17. You're doing a great job with your website dantodan. Thanks.
  18. Has anyone mentioned Wembley yet? Sticking speedway pictures on the car ready for the journey down south, scarves hanging out of the windows. The papping of the car horn every time another Wembley bound car passed us. It was always "passed" in our case because the top speed in our Beetle was 60mph. Happy memories, but I still wouldn't want to go back to the one off final at Wembley.
  19. ....You might have to venture a bit further along the M6 to see me. Perhaps you will make it to Brandon one evening next season and I'll look forward to seeing you.
  20. No, but that is a great word. Sounds like a good name for a Dinosaur ......if they were still around. Hope you get back on track in 2010. That's when Leicester are supposed to open as well so fingers crossed for both teams.
  21. I too hope this meeting is a great success and the weather is good. Personally I don't think I could attend a meeting like this as I'd probably embarrass everyone by bawling my eyes out at the end. It's bad enough at the last meeting of the season at Coventry when I feel really sad. It's made me realise when Leicester closed it was perhaps just as well that it was done on the sly with no-one knowing it was the last ever meeting, except the Coventry promotion at the time.
