  1. I think it's a bit unfair to say he "lacks the bottle" because he most certainly doesn't but I agree he cracks under pressure so tend to also agree with you that he won't win a G.P. Happy to be proved wrong this year though.
  2. You can be nosey Sue. We always used to stay over Friday and Saturday nights in a nice hotel on Cathedral Road - even the dog came. However in 2006 we had Molly as well so obviously couldn't push our luck with the owners by leaving 2 dogs in our room whilst at the G.P., so Molly was put in kennels in Cardiff for the weekend. Then I retired and we had to cut down on expenses so we started to go on one of the coaches from Coventry (there and back in one day) and our daughter takes care of the dogs for us. That's what we will be doing again this year and I'm really pleased the start time has been put forward to 5pm because we should get home at a more reasonable time.
  3. No. Start worrying if they've not arrived by June 26th. As Hazzman has already said they are never sent out until nearer the time. Depends where you want to sit. Try getting a seat in the middle tier of the 1st/2nd bend later on. As for the interest on the money it's hardly worth bothering about with the small amount involved and if it helps IMG (or whoever it is these days) keep the G.P. at Cardiff then I don't mind.
  4. Jim....Whilst you are thinking of the 1959 final do you know who won that year please? I've been sorting through some 50 year old newspaper cuttings; keeping some and throwing others away. In one of them it says that Ove came second but it didn't mention who was World Champion or who came 3rd. I'm pretty sure you will know with your good knowledge of speedway.
  5. Not bad Orion. You're not Darren Cook in disguise are you?
  6. Whilst I live too far away to go to the High Beech celebrations or The Paradise Wildife Park it seems to me given the choice of standing in a field somewhere and entrance to a pub that is too small to accommodate everyone, or free entry to a speedway museum and wildlife park, plus all the usual High Beech celebrations, I wouldn't have to think twice where to go.
  7. Yes. I bet the Poles will love Peterborough as it is more like the tracks they ride on and for Australia Crump and Sullivan (if he rides) know the quick way around the Showground by doing a bit of grasstracking on the bends.
  8. I think Ken lived in Aylestone when he was riding and then moved to Narborough. Both are a few miles from the stadium so I wouldn't have thought The John 0'Gaunt was his local pub. Plenty of others in his area to choose from though.
  9. Talking of scaring I'm a bit concerned that Norbold might accept the offer of a lift from Parsloes if this all comes off.
  10. You've been taking too much notice of what Subedei says. I didn't think the E.L. shown last year was too bad at all - much better than the season before.
  11. The books will be exactly the same I should think. Tony said it was reprinted because the first edition sold out.
  12. Yes, I did mean the stadium site. I went to take some photos of what is on the land now because I've never been back before. (I think you've already looked at the photos on my Leicester Speedway album.)
  13. Just checked and it's not in the telephone book so who knows? But then neither is The Blackbird and that's definitely still there as we went by it going to the stadium last Sunday....unless it's changed it's name of course.
  14. Perhaps the wrong smiley used then? ..... usually means an exasperated expression. Must admit that's how I read the post as well but it's so easy to misunderstand things on here.
  15. I'm more into Fish and Chip shops. There was a brilliant one near the Long Eaton Stadium; best fish and chips I've ever had and there was always a queue of speedway fans after the meeting. I wonder if The Pavilion is still there? As I've already said I don't really know much about pubs but the only one I can think of near the Leicester Stadium would be The Blackbird on the main road. Probably not the one you are thinking of though.
  16. Yes, I've been to Neath. Must have been in 1962 then and I would have been 22 but I don't remember a single thing about the place. They do say as you get older you can recall things from years ago but sadly in my case the first has happened but not the second.
  17. If you don't find any running from the Dudley area, how far away are you from Coventry? There are always at least 5 coaches going to Cardiff from the stadium. We now go on one of these and park the car in the stadium car park.
  18. Okay - I concede defeat because I don't know what I am arguing about.
  19. Okay. So when Mark Loram won the World Championship whilst riding for Poole he was just representing himself. Strange that Lisa thought differently in her post yesterday. Edited to put the quote in because the page has turned over.
  20. Very good. Anyway, I've taken a few photos of the Stadium estate this afternoon and had a walk around the area. Some lovely houses but it's sad that they've been built on such a good racetrack and the Lions are no more. As Salty has already said the only street name relating to our sport is Stadium Rise and the houses stand on the corner where the front entrance used to be. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2978827400047007148utYXyh http://rides.webshots.com/photo/1246140229047007148qETgFE
  21. Yes I think he is as I seem to remember a few moans about him coming from the direction of Wimborne Road. I'd still swap him for Peter York though.
  22. Right! This is bugging me now and I think it's time I went for a drive around the estate tomorrow. I have always meant to go back and take a few photos of where the stadium once stood to add to my Leicester Speedway album on Webshots. After nearly 26 years I might just manage it without crying.
  23. Go into the motorsports section of See Tickets and then the Speedway G.P. If you click on Order at the price you prefer to pay and the amount of tickets you want this will show you whereabouts the seats are - lower level, section number etc. You can also bring up the Stadium Plan. Just keep doing this until you find the area you want. BUDGIE has given you some good ideas. If you are taking children, like he says, you would perhaps be better where there is a bit more room to move around if they get a bit restless, which is probably the Upper Tier.
  24. When we went to Ipswich a few years ago we were very taken with one of the songs they played. (Well we are getting on a bit and it appealed to us!) Took me ages to find out what it was and the answer in the end came from Superbart at Coventry who very kindly let me have a copy. It was by The Klaxons and called the Clap Clap Song (or Sound.) He regularly used to play it at Brandon afterwards and always got a good response with the air horns in time to the music. Now Superbart is back this season hopefully we'll be able to hear it again.
  25. Not sure about that but I think there is a Hunters Walk or Hunters Rise named after the speedway team. I can't check because I've unfortunately just found out that my Leicester street guide must be over 25 years old. I really must get a new one.
